Synopsis:
SPIKE JOINS THE CAST OF
"ANGEL" – Taking over the Los Angeles offices of the
supernatural law firm Wolfram and Hart proves to be more challenging
than expected for Angel (David Boreanaz) and the gang, especially when
their first case involves representing an evil client (guest star Rod
Rowland) who threatens to destroy the city. As the gang settles into
their new careers at the law firm, they meet new and familiar faces,
including the mysterious Eve (guest star Sarah Thompson, "Boston
Public"), who will act as Angel's liaison to Wolfram and Hart's
senior partners, and the bubbly vampire Harmony (guest star Mercedes
McNab) who is Angel's new assistant. Most surprising of all is the
arrival of Angel's old nemesis and fellow vampire-with-a-soul, Spike
(James Marsters, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"), who makes a
miraculous appearance. The episode was written & directed by Joss
Whedon. |

In the fifth-season opener, the gang adjusts to life
after joining forces with Wolfram & Hart. The team soon learns that,

Synopsis:
Opening up just a short time from the
season ender, Angel and gang are trying to settle into life as heads of
Worfram & Hart, and finding it a little difficult. When Angel
makes one of his "savior of the night" appearances, he finds
he's not alone when a lawyer, a notary public, and a gang of
soldiers-all employees of W&H-show up to "back him
up." Back at the office, Wes, Gunn, and Fred are a little
overwhelmed with why they are there, while the Host is settling right
in. Angel along with his crew meet the mysterious Eve, who
explains to them that she is their liaison between them and the Senior
Partners. She tells them the deal: W&H gave them the office to
do what they want, but to keep the office running, they actually have to
keep it running, which means doing business. The gang go through
their files, and find themselves dismayed by the evil roster of people
they are now lawyers of. The first one they decide to deal with is
a man named Connor Fries, who is on the verge of losing at his trial for
a huge amount of crimes. They find out that Fries has created a
virus and put it in a supernatural container, and is threatening to let
it loose unless they get him off. While Wes and Fred try and track
down what Fries has and where he put it, Angel deals with his new
assistant Harmony, and Gunn goes to a mysterious appointment with a
shady Doctor. After beating it out of Fries' sleazy mystical
container maker, Angel discovers that the container housing this virus
of Fries' was placed in something very close to him: his 10 year old
son. Angel is horrified, especially after having "lost"
Connor, something that only Eve knows about. While Gunn, having
had all lawyer knowledge (and all knowledge of Gilbert and Sullivan)
downloaded into his brain by the doctor, is getting Fries a mistrial,
Angel goes to the school where Fries' son attends, determined to isolate
the boy and save him from the W&H soldiers who are going there to
wipe out the little boy, and his entire class. Angel stops the
soldiers and kills their leader, who hates Angel because he doesn't
embrace evil. Gunn gets a mistrial, much to the dismay of his
friends, but reassures them that they can now work on getting a cure for
the virus, and postponing the new trial, while keeping Fries on a short
lease. Angel tells them that they are going to continue to do what
they do, no matter what, and that there won't be anymore surprises, when
he opens an envelope and out drops the amulet that W&H had given to
Angel, who gave it to Buffy, who gave it to Spike to wear before he
died. Out of the amulet appears Spike, much to the shock of
everyone. And to the episode ends. |

RG Review: A little slow, but
to be understood as the show is establishing a whole new situation for
the gang. I enjoyed it still, and was glad to see that the
emotional impact of Cordy and Connor's losses were still weighing on
Angel, who was fairly morose and depressed through out. Loved how
he took on the soldiers, and killed the leader of the soldiers.
Harmony was a surprisingly happy addition. I really wasn't too
happy with her coming back, since I never really liked her, but she
added a nice element of humor and snarkiness, something that was much
appreciated. Cute to see how Fred is liking her new position, and
her new assistant. And I liked the new Gunn, although I would be
worried that there isn't anything else W&H downloaded to him.
Eve was fine, we'll see how she goes. I wish the actress had been
a little more snappy in her delivery of her lines, as they were those
kind of lines, but still, it was only her first episode. Over all,
an enjoyable episode, and a very good start to a new season! |
