- March 6, 2005: From Kristin at E! Online:
Okay, so this whole West Wing Mary-Louise Parker thing is stressing me out, because if they try to put Amy and Josh together again, I may just start throwing things at my TV! Please tell me that Amy's sole purpose is to show Josh that Donna is his soul mate and that he then finally makes the move everyone is waiting for! Please!
No need to worry. Mary-Louise is on for a short stint and has her own fabulous show, Weeds, on Showtime. Worry not!
- February 9, 2005: From TV Guide Online, in the "Ask Ausiello" column:
Question: You mentioned that Patricia Richardson was joining The West Wing later this season. Does that mean an end to her role on Strong Medicine? — DeniseAusiello: I think you're confusing Point Pleasant with Lavallette, Denise. According to my records, PP wasn't colonized until 1982. Regarding Pat Richardson, she will be juggling both shows.
- February 9, 2005: Martin Sheen said in his interview on the Ellen DeGeneres show that he will be with the show through at least January, 2006.
- January 30, 2005: TV Guide Online had this to report about Martin Sheen and the show:
"PRESIDENTIAL POLITICS: Martin Sheen confirmed at the TCA winter press tour this morning that he is near a deal to return to The West Wing for the first half of next season — through the end of President Bartlet's second term. Potential Bartlet successors Jimmy Smits and Alan Alda are also slated to return for the seventh season, although exec producer John Wells has yet to decide which will become the next president. Meanwhile, Home Improvement's Patricia Richardson is joining the cast as Alda's campaign manager."- January 30, 2005: Teri Polo made a guest appearance on the Letterman show, and reported she was doing 4 eps of TWW this season, and that she'd be back next year if "nudge nudge wink
wink," Jimmy Smit's character was elected. And yes, she really said that!- December 26, 2004: Yes, it is unfortunately true, the devil woman is coming back to WW this season. Mary Louise Parker will be reprising her role as Amy Gardner, and it looks like she will be having to do with one of the campaigns that will be being run for president, but not sure if she is helping out with Santos, Hoynes, or Russell. Sigh...of all the people to bring back, they had to choose her??
- November 14, 2004: Teri Polo ("Meet the Parents"), will be in at least 4 episodes this season as Jimmy Santos' (Jimmy Smits) wife, Liz. Santos, a Democratic congressman and ex-Houston mayor, will be a contender for the Democratic Presidential Nomination this season. Alan Alda will be a moderate Republican senator up for the Presidential office as well. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Teri has an option to take on a larger role next season.
- October 1, 2004: According to poster LBM on the JD_Talk list, Jane Kazmarack, Brad's wife, said that Brad will be writing and directing an episode this season.
- October 1, 2004: From Kristin at E! Online:
What's with all the new faces on The West Wing? Is the Bartlet administration about to end?
Yep, 2005 is the end of his second term. So, that's all she wrote for Bartlet. Looks like Alan Alda might be running for president--at least, that's my hunch, since Bartlet's gonna be out and Alda is in as a series regular. Mary McCormack is also now a regular. She guested last season on The West Wing as a deputy National Security Advisor and two seasons ago on ER as the girl who was supposed to be Noah Wyle's love interest in the Congo--although, ultimately, that didn't go anywhere. John Wells loves him some Mary McCormack, huh?
- August 24, 2004: CASTING NEWS:
from Zap2it.com: "Jimmy Smits is a three-term Houston congressman on "The West Wing" (Wednesday, Oct. 20). Early word is that he might not only make a run for the Oval Office, but he may win the election as the ratings-challenged series goes through some serious revamping."
from CNN.com: Alan Alda will be joining in a recurring role as a Republican Senator from California with Presidential aspirations.
from CNN.com: Marley Shelton ("Uptown Girls") will play a former feature reporter who is being mentored by Danny Concannon (Timothy Busfield) who becomes White House deputy press secretary.
from CNN.com: Mary McCormack (USA's "Traffic"), who appeared at the end of last season in a couple of episodes as the new Deputy National Security Adviser, will return as a permanent fixture.
- August 15, 2004: CASTING NEWS: according to Variety, Jimmy Smits (NYPD Blue, Star Wars" Attack of the Clones) is in talks to play a three-term Houston congressman with intense political ambitions. Word is the role will be recurring, for now. Also, Sam Robards will be back to the show this season in the role he played in several episodes last season. He played Greg Brock, a member of the White House press corps.
- February 8, 2004: Transcribed by Angie on the JDTalk list from a red carpet interview Janel Moloney did at the recent Golden Globes:
Interviewer: Let's face it we all want you and Josh to get together.
Janel: <nodding with serious expression> Um I think we should get together I really do, I dunno <starts smiling> We'll see what happens...everyone wants us...that's the number one question when will Josh and Donna get together. People want us together I think.- January 25, 2004: Posted by theone22785 on TWoP:
"Now, a general spoiler. I am one of the people who dropped the info back in November that there was gonna be some possible Josh/Donna in the Feb. eps, particularly episode 14 (somebody else said they had heard the episode 13). I went back to the source of the original intel (having been industrious enough to ask for their e-mail address the last time we met in person).
I have learned the following (which isn't much, in the name of secrecy):
The "moment" we all keep waiting for is happening in February. I begged for the specific episode, my source wouldn't budge.
Two, according to my source, and this is direct quote from e-mail text: "All it is right now is the setup. It won't be a radical departure from anything we've done before."
--- Which I would assume means that it'll be more of the same ring-around-the-rosey-almost-kinda-sorta moment, in the grand tradition of the Skiing Book, Red
Lights, and most recently the Gift that Shall Not Be Named. So if you've always liked those kind of things, enjoy more. If you are ripping your hair out waiting for more, or just hate it all together, more pain. ---
And three, again direct quote from e-mail - "Right now, we haven't decided if the payoff is coming at season's end, or if we wait until next fall."
So that's it right there - more opportunities for Deborah to rip on the show's best non-couple as
"sooooo High School". (no offense Deborah) But apparently, if you've always been rooting for
Josh/Donna, you just might finally get your wish granted...but not before May, at least. Until then, more torture."- November 02, 2003: Several people with inside sources (supposedly) have come out and said that a relationship with Josh and Donna is being planned around Feb. sweeps. Whether or not these people's sources are correct remains to be seen.
One person who posts as Ashk on TWoP posted this this week:
ashk: J/D isn't planned for this yr... this season, I can't comment on.
Westwinger247: I hope I'm understanding your "no comment" comment. If I do, then I can't wait for next year
ashk: I can now give you a general gist of how things will get kicked off, but what happens from there in on, I don't know yet-- those discussions have yet to take place in detail.
But in basics, those who have issues with why Josh went back to Amy definitely won't have them around Feb. sweeps-- The J/D relationship doesn't start at this point, but Josh does say how he feels, and it leaves Donna very stunned. At the moment it's been decided that things won't be resolved in the same episode, and that this will put an added pressure on the already growing strain between J/D [in both professional and personal terms]. This is speculation on my part,
but I'd guess they'd have the strain between J/D so apparent that it will lead others to comment, perhaps like Leo in HN.
I get the impression that JW, the writers & directors, & BW would like Josh to woo Donna a little, or you know, a lot.
- October 26, 2003: From a member of the JDTalk list, Alexa: O.K. Brace yourselves, the evil lady is out of Josh's love live in ep.5. They break up, although not resolving the J/D issues. And on his birthday none the less! I can not share much details, because my source did not want to reveal the good stuff, but apparently Amy wanted Josh's undivided attention and could not get it /that may or may not be Donna related/. Donna is not getting involved with Ryan, the annoying intern, for now either, so that is good news on both of them. The guy I talked to have seen the scripts to come up until ep.8 and sat on some of the developing meetings and said that J/D shippers will NOT be satisfied with the resolution for now, but by the end of February sweeps that may change dramatically! Oh, and Donna is getting a promotion in the near future that will cause some rough time with Josh, but with help with the love storyline later. That is all kids.
- September 26, 2003: From Kristin at EOnline...
"When Janel Moloney (looking stunning in Valentino) arrived, naturally, I couldn't resist asking
if there was any hope for some Donna lovin'. "I hope so," she said. "I think so. But probably not
with Josh. I tell people that, and they get so disappointed that I don't say it anymore. But I
guess there's always a little something going on between us, right?"- June 22, 2003: From Kristin at EOnline...
I was just wondering: What does Aaron Sorkin's departure mean to the Josh & Donna relationship on The West Wing?
So glad somebody finally pointed out the real issue. (Who cares that the show will go to hell in a handbasket!?) Honestly, it's too soon to tell, but I'm guessing they have a better chance of hooking up now, since A.S. was (wisely, I hate to admit) all about the wait. Word is, though, that he's penning the first ep to help smooth the transition.- January 21, 2000:
Past Spoilers from Wanda at E! Online for season 2, they're old, but I still keep them around cause they make me smile...
12. What's coming up on West Wing?
Sparks fly in the White House--and no, I'm not talking about Josh and Donna's supposed upcoming fling. Sam and Josh start a cozy fire in the Mural Room--without realizing the chimney flue has been welded shut for more than 100 years.
From soccer1: Tell us something about The West Wing.
Donna and Josh will start heading down more romantic storylines.Oval Office Romance Janel Moloney (Donna) moves up to the rank of series regular this year on West Wing. And if you smelled a little sumpin'-sumpin' brewing between Donna and Josh last season, you're right.
