WHY "DENIAL?"

Because these two seem to be in total denial that they're in love with each other! Even Bradley Whitford remarks that Josh & Donna love each other, but just don't know it. Here's hoping they'll realize it soon and finally get together!

CHARACTER CONNECTION

I actually didn't like Josh much at first. His arrogance grated on my nerves, but eventually, I was won over. However I suffered no such problem with Donna. Her quirkiness and affability with Josh, while still cracking the whip and giving him a bad time, were immediate draws for me. I loved it when she bantered right back with him, and never let the fact that he was her boss stop her from giving him a bad time!

WHY THEM?

Since "The West Wing" was up against "Roswell" in it's first season, I didn't watch every episode (although I did catch most of them in summer reruns), but in the ones I did I was intrigued by the banter between Josh and Donna. I've always been a sucker for great banter. But since there was Mandy and Joey, and Donna wasn't even a regular character (although I found out later that she was the only non-contract actor who appeared in every first season episode), I didn't invest much in them. However the summer after season 1, two things happened: the "It" issue of the magazine ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY came out and named these two "It Office Mates," and I found out that Janel was being made a regular for season 2. Thus did it seem as if my attraction to Josh and Donna was affirmed, and I've been devoted to them ever since!

I think what I love most about these two is their banter, the way they both give it and take it, and their devotion to each other. When Josh was shot, it seemed understood to the other senior staffers how devastated Donna would be over it. And even hard-nosed, take-no-guff-from-anyone Toby abided by caretaker Donna's "rules" during Josh's recovery. And Josh has demonstrated his devotion to Donna as well, from his guilt over being given a Security card while she was not, to how he risked breaking the law to help her when she lied about her Diary. These two are totally devoted to each other, and totally in love with each other.

Now if only they would realize it!
