Chapter One

- The Next Day

Setting: The Quartermaine Mansion

(It’s early in the morning. Alan opens the doors to the living room and sees Monica, Emily, Edward, Ned, and Lila eating breakfast. He subtly walks in and grabs a croissant. Monica notices Alan’s distance toward the family and walks over to him.)

Monica: Is everything okay?

Alan: It’s just been a long morning.

Monica: It just started, Alan.

Alan: How about a long last few days?

(Monica takes the croissant out of Alan’s hands and looks at her husband.)

Monica (whispers): What is it, Alan?

(Alan sighs and takes Monica’s hand. He leads her out into the foyer.)

Alan: Dr. Joe Martin called my office yesterday.

Monica (thinking): Dr. Joe Martin? He’s the chief of staff at that small hospital in Pennsylvania, isn’t he?

Alan: Right and Robin’s new doctor.

(Monica’s eyes widen immediately.)

Monica (whispers): Robin as in Robin Scorpio? She’s back in the States?

Alan: So it seems.

Monica: Is everything okay with her?

Alan: Yeah, she’s fine health wise. He just called wanting some of her files. He got most of them from her doctor in Paris, but he wanted my input on her protocol dosages as well.

Monica: Why is this bothering you, Alan?

(Alan sits down in the corner of the room on a small chair.)

Alan: She’s my patient, Monica. I know that she hasn’t been under my care for years, but I never considered her off my hands. When she went to New Haven, we chose the doctor together, then Yale set her up with a doctor in Paris. I just ....... I always hoped one day I could treat her again. It’s for selfish reasons.

(Monica kneels down slowly in front of her husband.)

Monica: I doubt it. Tell me them.

Alan (tearfully): I never admitted this to anyone .... not even her. I wanted to be the one to tell her that she was cured. I knew deep down the day would come and I wanted to be the one to tell her. I wanted to see her smile and the tears in her eyes. I wanted to see the hope reappear that I took away by telling her she was positive. (Looks down) The morning I found out about the protocol was the morning her and Jason returned from their trip to Montauk.

Monica: And Jason got beat up? I remember.

Alan: I remember walking into his hospital room and finding her in his arms. He was sleeping so peacefully with his arms wrapped around her so protectively. I knew from that moment, I was not only fighting for Robin’s future, but also his. Even after they broke up both times, I wanted her to be okay for him. I still do, but now I also want her to be okay for me. I had always hoped that when Robin returned to the States it would be to Port Charles and to my care.

(Monica looks down tearfully and wipes the tears from her eyes.)

Alan: I told you it was selfish. Dr. Martin is one of the best in the field ......... but he isn’t me and he isn’t fighting for his future too. Treating Robin was going to make me the doctor I once was again. The doctor that treated Stone and helped Robin. I was going to regain that part of me that was lost to the pills.

Monica: And the part of your son that was lost in that accident?

Alan: Monica, I know that I lost my son. Jason is not mine, but a small part of our son lived on when he was with Robin. Now ......... he’s just Jason Morgan wherever he is. The evil won out in the end. Robin was the only good in his life that wasn’t tarnished by lies and corruption. Even his love for Michael was based on a lie - a lie that cost him Robin!!

Monica: You haven’t given up on them, have you? You haven’t let Robin go.

Alan: I’ll never let her go. In my mind, she will always be a part of our family as a daughter in-law.

(Monica sighs as she watches her husband stand up and walk back up the stairs to his office.  Deep down, she was disappointed too that Robin wasn't returning to Port Charles.)

Chapter Two

Updated: 1/22/2000

Setting: Luke’s Club

(Luke walks in from the back carrying one of the shipments. He looks up when he sees a man walk in. He’s about to tell him that the club is closed, but watches as he inauspiciously drops a manilla envelope on the bar. That was his contact. They make certain eye contact with no spoken words. Luke waits until the man leaves then places the parcel he was carrying at the foot of the bar and walks over to the where the manilla envelope lies. Inside this envelope was everything he wanted to know about Dr. Alexandra Devane Marick. He picks it up nervously and sighs. He slowly opens it and gasps in shock at the first object in the envelope. He raises an 5x7 photograph of her in front of his face. She looked just like Anna. If he didn’t know better, he would have thought she was indeed Anna Devane Scorpio. Without hesitation, he heads over to the corner of the bar and dials in Felicia.)

Luke: I think you may have been right. Robin has definitely walked into a trap.

Chapter Three

Setting: The Cindy Chandler Foundation

(Scott Chandler guides Robin into the main office as he tells her about the ongoing programs and projects they are working on. This morning, he gave her a tour of the hospital and showed her the joys of hospital food. Robin joked that it was actually better than the Sorbonne’s attempt at cafeteria food. Scott immediately picked up on Robin’s sense of humor and loved it. He loved the light that she could bring to the foundation. After showing her the entire hospital, they ended up back in the main office where they began. Robin tiredly plops down on the small office chair in the corner as Scott checks the messages.)

Scott: Did I wear you out?

Robin: This is some hospital.

Scott: It is big.

Robin: One of the biggest I’ve seen.

Scott: Well, it does receive a lot of funding.

Robin: And much of it deserved. I mean, look at the staff!! Dr. David Hayward is one of the most well known cardiologists in the world.

Scott (smirks): For his treatments or his out-of-office activities?

(Robin laughs knowing exactly what he meant. Dr. David Hayward, talented as he may be, he definitely had a reputation preceding him. He was known as a cutthroat in the medical community that often would drop the code of ethics in a heartbeat for a chance at fame. Robin, however, couldn’t deny his morality rates. He was exceptional when it came to saving lives. Robin aimlessly grabs her water bottle out of her purse with her pills as she looks up at Scott.)

Robin: I have heard about Dr. Hayward’s reputation.

(Scott watches as Robin aimlessly throws at least 15 pills in her mouth at once and easily swallows them all.)

Scott (quietly): It does precede him.

Robin (normally): But, he is a excellent physician.

Scott: How about humanitarian?

(Robin shakes her head and places her pills back in her bag.)

Robin: I don’t know. I have a hard time judging a doctor on their past mistakes. (Thinking) A close family friend was once a world renowned neurologist. He wrote in many of the popular journals and spoke at numerous conventions. Then, he had a few lapses in judgement and before he knew it, his license was gone. I don’t know. I can’t help but think of all the lives that he could still be saving and all those that he never will be able to.

Scott: It’s a hard call. That’s why I never deal with medicine. Film will be my forte.

(Robin smiles slightly as Scott throws the mail on the desk and sits behind it.)

Robin: An inspiring producer? I never would have known.

Scott: Well, many don’t. I haven’t really done much ......... yet. I work right now at WRCW.

Robin: You too? Ryan works there as well, right?

Scott (smirks): Right. (Raises his eyebrow) I heard you two got acquainted.

Robin (bluntly): Gillian.

Scott: No, Ryan actually.

(Robin smiles taken back.)

Robin: Ryan?

Scott: Yeah, you made some impression on my roommate. I think his exact words were that you two meshed and that you were a great girl.

(Robin laughs as she shakes her head.)

Robin: Does everyone in Pine Valley participate in matchmaking?

Scott: No, only the incredibly bored residents. Seriously, Ryan is a great guy and I think he deserves some happiness.

Robin: I’m sure he does, but ......

Scott: Am I being pushy?

Robin: No. Ryan is a great guy and I did feel some sort of connection there. (Sighs) Honestly, I have been out of the dating game so long that I don’t even know if I remember what a connection feels like.

Scott: Why don’t you let him remind you?

Robin (curiously): Remind me?

Scott: Come by our apartment for dinner tonight. Ryan will be there and you could meet my girlfriend, Becca. I think you two will hit it off great.

Robin: I don’t know.

Scott: About meeting Becca? Dinner? Come on, Robin. What will an innocent meal do? What type of harm could it cause?

(Robin looks at Scott skeptically then sighs.)

Robin: Okay. Tell me what time to be there.

(Scott smiles and scribbles his address on one of the pages of his memo pad. Robin watches him scribble down their phone number and sighs. What is she getting herself into?)

Chapter Four

Setting: Luke’s Office at the Club

(Felicia frantically runs into the club out of the breath and straight toward Luke’s office. Without even knocking, she barges into the door and plops down across from Luke.)

Felicia: What did you find out?

(Luke holds up a picture of Alexandra. Felicia’s eyes immediately widen as her mouth falls in shock. She slowly reaches toward the black and white photo.)

Felicia: Is that ........

Luke: No, that is not Anna. Someone that looks like Anna, but not her.

Felicia: Can we be sure?

Luke: Look into the eyes.

(Felicia takes the picture and studies it. She shakes her head.)

Felicia: I don’t know. I guess not. Luke, is this possible? I mean, who is this woman?

Luke: My opinion? Someone setting Robin up for a major downfall.

Felicia: What do you mean?

Luke: Ever heard of a great plastic surgeon?

(Felicia shakes her head no.)

Felicia: Oh come on, Luke!! Who would be that cruel? Who would purposely get plastic surgery to look like Anna? Even if this woman did, why? Why would she do this now years after Anna died? What could there be possibly for her to gain?

Luke: I don’t know. Robin’s hefty trust fund, for one. Maybe her connections to the WSB or organized crime, for another.

Felicia: I don’t know. Robin trusts this woman.

Luke: How could she not, Felicia? She has her mother’s face!!

Felicia: She could be telling the truth. She could be Anna’s cousin.

Luke: She could be, but she could also be a really good DVX agent. I’m going to look more into this.

(Luke takes the picture back from Felicia’s hands.)

Luke: I understand family resemblances, but this ........ this is TOO much.

Felicia: You’re right. Keep looking.

Chapter Five

Setting: Wildwind Mansion

(Robin walks into the main room wearing a short dark blue dress with her hair up. She smiles at the sight of Edmund and Alex finishing the daily crossword puzzle. They both look up at Robin and smile at the sight of her.)

Edmund: Got a date?

Robin: Not quite. Dinner at Scott Chandler’s apartment.

Alex: Oh, the one he shares with Ryan Lavery?

(Robin clears her throat and pours herself a glass of water, as Edmund and Alex laugh quietly. Robin turns back toward them and smiles.)

Robin: It really is just dinner.

Edmund (to Alex): Famous last words.

Alex (to Edmund): Who said them? Thoreau? Plato? Socrates?

Robin: Very funny, guys!!

(Alex and Edmund turn toward Robin and smile.)

Edmund: We’re just playing with you.

Alex: Of course, we are. Have a great time tonight, Robin.

Robin: Thank you.

Edmund (smirks): Should we wait up for you?

Robin: I think I should be able to find my way home.

Alex: Do you need a flashlight? You know, just in case?

Robin: I think the binoculars watching from the windows will guide me.

(Alex and Edmund laugh as Robin shakes her head blushing. Edmund gets up and walks over to her.)

Edmund: You look beautiful. Have a great time tonight, Robin.

(With that, Edmund leaves. Robin glances down at Alex and smiles.)

Robin: You think this is a date too?

Alex: This is purely what you and Ryan want it to be. To the sound of things, it just sounds like a friendly platonic dinner. Now, if you and Ryan go to the Chateau for dinner for two, then I will give you the official date stamp.

Robin (smiles): Thank you. Don’t wait up.

(Robin grabs her purse and leaves. Alex watches and smiles. Youth!!)

Chapter Six

Setting: Scott & Ryan’s Apartment

(Ryan nervously runs out from the bathroom only wearing a towel as Scott cooks over the stove. He glances toward Ryan.)

Ryan: I have nothing to wear!!

Scott: I doubt that. You have a bigger wardrobe than I do.

Ryan: Then, where is it when I need it??

(Scott laughs slightly as he turns toward Ryan.)

Scott: Actually, I like what you’re wearing right now. I heard the French like minimalists.

Ryan: Very funny!! For your knowledge, Robin is NOT French, she only studied in France.

Scott (laughs): Sorry!! (Looks at him) You’re really nervous, aren’t you?

Ryan: I wasn’t until I looked at the time. This is just dinner, right? It’s not a date?

Scott: No!! This is purely what you and Robin want it to be. It’s just a friendly platonic dinner. Now, if want to take her to the Chateau, then it would be considered a date.

Ryan: Okay.

(With that, Ryan runs back into his room as Scott shakes his head. This should be an interesting night.)

Chapter Seven

Updated: 1/26/2000

Setting: Outside of Ryan & Scott’s Apartment

(Robin nervously gets off the elevator. She straightens her dress, slicks back her hair, then glances down at herself. She shakes her head then nervously walks up to their door. Why is she so nervous? She follows the scent of good food and lands in front of their door. Robin closes her eyes to gather up her strength then confidently knocks on the door. After hearing a call of “I’m coming!!,” the door opens revealing Becca, Scott’s girlfriend. Robin immediately smiles and shakes her extended hand.)

Becca: It’s a pleasure to finally meet you!!

Robin: Thanks. I’ve heard great things about you.

Becca: Likewise. Come in!!

(Becca guides Robin in as she looks around curiously.)

Becca: Scott and Ryan are both slaving over the stove in the kitchen.

Robin: Can they cook?

(Becca smirks and shrugs her shoulders.)

Becca: They try. Let me put it this way, their favorite cookbook is the takeout menu from Tangs.

(Robin laughs slightly as Ryan appears from the kitchen with Scott. They are both holding a tray of appetizers.)

Scott: I’m glad you could make it.

Robin: Thank you.

(Ryan places the tray of appetizers on the coffee table then walks over to Robin.)

Ryan: Thanks for coming.

Robin (smiles): You’re welcome. (Looks at the appetizers) Mmm. They look great.

Ryan (smirks): Think so? I got it from one of those cookbooks.

(Robin laughs as Becca and Scott glance at each other. They subtlety excuse themselves as Ryan and Robin sit down on the couch.)

Ryan: I was surprised when Scott told me you were coming for dinner.

Robin: He asked me today at the Foundation.

Ryan: I’m glad you accepted. It’s been a long time since we had company. I think we’ve become a little isolated up here.

Robin: You mean, an exclusive group of friends?

Ryan: Kind of. (Looks at Robin) I forgot how great it is to meet new people.

(Robin smiles and looks down a bit embarrassed. She wasn’t sure why she was, but she felt her cheeks redden and the blood rush to her face a bit. Ryan shocked himself a bit by saying that as well. She looks back up at him and smiles.)

Robin: I think I can use meeting some new people myself.

Ryan: Is that why you’re in Pine Valley?

Robin: Kind of, I guess. I mainly came here to meet my cousin. I thought it would be great to get to know her and possibly some of the people in her life. But, now I have met Scott, Becca, Gillian, you, Jake, Joe, Edmund ....... the list goes on and on. They’re all more than just people in her life, they’re all great people.

Ryan (smiles): Pine Valley is a very welcoming town.

Robin: Were they to you? I mean, when you first showed up?

(Robin picks up a glass of water and starts to take a sip of it, as Ryan turns toward her.)

Ryan (calmly): As welcoming as you can be to a con-artist.

(Robin almost chokes on her water and looks at Ryan.)

Robin (shocked): You were a CON-ARTIST??

Ryan (smiles): I liked how you said “were.”

(Robin immediately smiles and somewhat blushes.)

Robin (embarrassed): Well, I was kind of hoping that you “were.” I mean, this could all be a con, right?

(Ryan smiles a reassuring smile then looks at her sincerely.)

Ryan: This is in NO way a con. But, yes, I was a con-artist. And one of the best, I might add. That’s how I got my job at WRCW. Nobody can sell a story better than me.

Robin (smiles): I bet. (Looks at him) I have a lot to learn about you, don’t I, Mr. Ryan Lavery?

(Ryan smiles and leans in closer to Robin. She can feel the blood rushing to her face, the closer he moved to her.)

Ryan: But, isn’t that the best part of getting to meet new people?

(Robin smiles as she looks down nervously. He made her so nervous - almost like a schoolgirl. Becca and Scott glance over at them from the corner of the room smiling. They both look at each other and nod. They were thinking the same thing - love connection.)

Chapter Eight

Setting: Sonny’s Penthouse

(Sonny looks up from the glass of cognac in his hands when Johnny opens the door revealing Benny. He immediately stands up and waves him in, as Johnny closes the door behind them. Benny looks down. He hated this. He hated telling Sonny news that he didn’t want to hear. Sonny wasn’t the most rational person and telling him news that he didn’t want to hear brought out those qualities. Benny clears his throat and opens up his briefcase as Sonny shakes his head and waves his hand at him.)

Sonny: You don’t need to look in there. Benny, what did you find?

(Benny looks up from his suitcase nervously.)

Benny: Find?

Sonny (annoyed): Yes!! Find!! What did you find out? Is Robin in Paris or not?

Benny: It doesn’t seem that way.

Sonny (angrily): Doesn’t seem that way?? What does that mean? Either it is a yes or a no.

Benny: There is no clear cut answer, Sonny. At least, not for the questions you are asking.

Sonny (annoyed): FINE!! Then, just tell me what you know.

(Benny sits down in the small armchair as Sonny follows him and sits on the couch.)

Benny: Robin’s lease expired on her apartment.

Sonny: So, where is she living?

Benny: Nobody knows. Her neighbors seem to believe that she returned to the States for the Summer.

Sonny: How could that be?? Is she here? NO!! Someone is lying to us, BENNY!!

Benny: Not necessarily, Boss. The states are big.

Sonny (annoyed): I don’t need a geography lesson. I know how big the United States is. What I am getting at, Benny, is that if Robin were to return to the states, she would return here. Port Charles is her home - not New York City or California!!

Benny: Yes, it was once her home, but she hasn’t been back since January of 1999. That is a long time, Boss. I think we are assuming too much.

Sonny (coldly): Meaning?

Benny (nervously): Meaning that she may not consider this her home anymore. I mean, her Uncle is no longer here, neither is Jason for that matter, and you ...............

Sonny (yells): DON’T!! Don’t ever speak of my relationship with Robin. That is my business - not YOURS!! Not ANYBODY’S!!

(Benny nervously stands up and looks down at Sonny.)

Benny: Boss, I am just telling you what I found. Robin Scorpio is not in Paris and hasn’t been for awhile. I will look into where she may be, but the only two things I can tell you in all certainty is that Robin is not in Paris and she is not here.

Sonny: Thank you for the obvious, Benny. Now if you’re done, you could go.

Benny: Yes, sir.

(Benny grabs his suitcase and leaves nervously. Sonny looks down at his glass of cognac in his hands and in a sudden movement, throws it against the wall.)

Chapter Nine

Setting: Ryan & Scott’s Apartment

(Robin, Scott, Ryan, and Becca walk out from the kitchen smiling. Robin is holding her stomach in an attempt to show her “fullness.” Becca plops down on the couch throwing her legs in the air as she lands.)

Becca: I have never been so full.

(Scott sits down next to Becca and smiles.)

Scott: And you thought we couldn’t cook?

(Becca starts laughing and Scott hits her arm. They start playfully tickling each other as Robin watches from the corner of the room. Ryan watches as Robin’s face like a switch turns blank. She was remembering something - maybe a happier time, maybe not. All Ryan knew was that it was a time Robin was no longer in. There was a sharp pain in her eyes. A pain that was unmistakable to see. Whoever hurt her - hurt her bad. She absently rubs her eyes then looks up and sees Ryan staring back at her. Immediately embarrassed, Robin looks down and senses Ryan walking over to her. She slowly looks up and sees him standing right next to her.)

Ryan: Did you like dinner?

(Robin smiles and looks up at Ryan with reassuring eyes.)

Robin: Dinner was excellent.

(Ryan leans into Robin and looks at her.)

Ryan: And the company?

Robin (smiles): Even better.

Ryan (nods): Good, then I’m happy. You know, we aim to please.

(Robin laughs a bit as Ryan turns toward the couch and sees Scott and Becca laughing. Robin follows his gaze and sighs.)

Robin (sadly): They look so happy.

(Ryan looks back at Robin.)

Ryan: They are.

(Robin looks down sadly and stares at the ground.)

Ryan: You could find happiness like that again, Robin.

(Robin looks up slowly at Ryan with tears in her eyes.)

Robin: Sometimes I can convince myself of that, but when I see that ........... that type of closeness in a couple. That type of trust. (Shakes her head) I don’t think I could do it.

Ryan: Maybe you just haven’t met the right person.

(Robin smiles and releases a sigh.)

Robin: Maybe I haven’t even been looking.

(Ryan stares at Robin then leads her out toward their terrace. She looks out at the Pine Valley night sky and smiles. He turns toward her.)

Ryan: I come out here to think at times. You know, when the world gets to be too much in there.

Robin: I know the feeling.

Ryan: I bet you do.

(Robin looks down solemnly at her shoes.)

Robin: I am trying to get past it. (Looks up at him determined) I AM getting past it.

(Ryan laughs and touches her shoulder.)

Ryan: That’s the spirit.

(Ryan’s laughter causes Robin to laugh herself. She looks up at Ryan and smiles.)

Robin: Thank you.

Ryan: For what?

Robin: I don’t know. Understanding. (Sighs) I had a lot of friends where I lived before in Paris, but none understood. (Looks at Ryan) They saw the Robin that smiled, the Robin that could laugh at a good joke. They didn’t see the Robin that got her heart broken. They didn’t see the Robin that was trying so desperately to put back together the pieces of her shattered life.

Ryan: And you think I do?

Robin (slowly): I don’t know. I think you do. At least, I know that you make me feel as if you do and that’s more than other people did.

Ryan: What do you mean?

Robin: They ignored it. They ignored the sad glances or the even sadder smiles. (Looks down) I thought I wanted them to until I met you. I needed some recognition. I needed someone to see that I wasn’t okay.

(Ryan sighs and leans on the railing staring out at the Pine Valley sky.)

Ryan: You give me too much credit, Robin. (Looks at her) The only reason I recognized the look in your eyes ........... is because I saw it in mine. The difference is you lost more than the person you love. You lost something much more.

(Robin looks down tearfully and shakes her head, then looks at him.)

Robin: I lost my best friend too.

Ryan: There was more.

Robin: My home.

(Ryan moves away from the railing and looks at her.)

Ryan (quieter): More.

Robin: My family.

Ryan (whispers): Still more.

(Robin looks away tearfully, then back at Ryan.)

Robin (barely audible): I lost myself. (Looks down) I lost myself, Ryan.

(Ryan sighs sadly and lifts Robin’s chin with his hand. He looks into her eyes with tears streaming down her face and sighs again inwardly.)

Ryan: You’re finding her again.

Robin (tearfully): Will I recognize her?

Ryan (smiles): It’ll be like finding an old friend.

(Ryan wipes the tears from Robin’s eyes as she sadly smiles.)

Robin (smiles): Or making a new one.

(Ryan nods his head and moves his hands from her face.)

Ryan: Or making a new one.
