Chapter 3
- Several Days Later
Setting: Robin’s Apartment
(It’s a beautiful early April morning. Robin slowly walks out from her bedroom and looks at her surroundings. She was overwhelmed. Last night, Dillon, Jesse and Lucky helped bring over her last few boxes from her Uncle Mac’s house. As good as it felt to finally have her own place, it still freaked her out a bit. She waited quite a few months to find just the right place for herself and she had hoped this was it. It was ironic actually. She had found this place the day of the outbreak at GH. Robin didn’t know if that was a good sign or not, but decided to just go with it once she was released from GH. She didn’t realize how much stuff she kept from Paris as well as how much her uncle kept from her growing up until it all landed on her doorstep last night in the very capable arms of Lucky Spencer. It was extremely overwhelming. It was too much. Robin sits down in the middle of her living room and looks around at all the boxes… and for the first time is grateful that she is off for the next week from GH. She reaches for the first box and starts to open it and just as she does, her phone rings somewhat startling her. Who even had her number yet?)
Robin: Hello?
Sonny: Robin.
(Robin almost drops the phone from her hands. Why was Sonny calling her?)
Robin: Sonny?
Sonny: It’s not too early, is it?
Robin: No. (Stands up) No, I’m a morning person.
(Robin walks over to her kitchen and puts on a pot of water. She would definitely need some caffeine for this conversation.)
Sonny: Oh good.
(There was another awkward silence. She waits for Sonny to say something, but finally decides to break the ice herself.)
Robin: So, what’s up?
Sonny: I just… I haven’t had the chance to talk to you since the hospital and I just wanted to make sure that you were okay.
(Robin sighs slightly as she starts to pour herself a cup of tea.)
Robin: I’m fine, Sonny.
Sonny: You know… if you need anything…
Robin: I’m really fine.
(There’s another awkward silence.)
Sonny: You know… I couldn’t help Courtney. To be honest, I don’t know if I cared enough to help her. Robin, I don’t want to make that mistake ever again. (Pauses) So, just promise me, if you need anything… you’ll ask.
(Robin sits down at her table.)
Robin: How are you, Sonny? (Pauses) I don’t even know what to say… but I’m so sorry about your sister.
(Sonny just silently nods as he looks down. Robin knew that he would be uncomfortable talking about the sudden loss of his sister.)
Sonny: Thank you.
Robin: Sonny?
Sonny: Yeah?
Robin: How did you get my new phone number?
Sonny: I asked Emily for it.
Robin (quietly): And she gave it to you?
Sonny: Emily knows how we are.
(Robin just silently nods. “How we are.” How was Robin supposed to take that? What did that mean – how were her and Sonny? Were they friends? Acquaintances? Old chums? She laughs slightly… okay, maybe “old chums” was a little old-fashion, but she knew the point she was trying to get at in her mind. Sonny can almost hear Robin thinking on the other line and sighs tiredly into the phone.)
Sonny: Maybe I should’ve said how we WERE.
Robin: No, no… I was just surprised, that’s all.
(Suddenly, Robin hears a knocking on her front door. She glances at her kitchen clock curiously. It wasn’t even 9 o’clock yet.)
Robin: Sonny, can I call you back? I think one of my deliveries might be here.
(Robin stands up from her kitchen table and walks toward her front door. She opens the door quickly and jumps back slightly at the sight of Elizabeth and Lucky Spencer. Robin stands there speechless as the young couple walks past her carrying several bags in their arms. Robin closes her door slowly and looks back at them.)
Robin (confused): Uh… what’s going on?
Liz: We are here for your services.
Robin: Services?
Lucky: Well, Jesse happened to mention to me that Maxie told him that you told her…
Robin (laughing): Lucky, it’s too early for this.
Liz: What my husband is trying to say is that Jesse told him that there was a lot of work to be done before your apartment was livable.
Robin: Livable? No. For a party? Absolutely. Sweet, Maxie Jones, wants me to throw a party here.
Lucky: Oh.
(Lucky and Liz look at each other then back at Robin.)
Liz: Well, we still want to help.
Robin: Guys, you are never off from work at the same time. You should enjoy this time together.
Liz: We will be together. (Smiles) And my husband loves to do stuff around the house!
(Liz pulls out a tool belt as Lucky whips out a power drill. He laughs menacingly as Robin and Liz both shake their heads.)
Liz: Boys and their toys.
Lucky (looks at Liz): Did I ever tell you about the go-cart I built with, Robin’s boyfriend, Stone? I learned from the best.
Liz: Tell me about the go-cart? (Smiles) Lucky, honey, it’s still sitting in Gram’s shed.
Lucky (excited): I can’t wait to get Cameron on that thing!
Liz: Dream on, honey.
(Robin laughs as she moves in between her two friends.)
Robin: Okay… in order to keep the peace, I think I should put you both to work… if you insist on helping out.
Lucky: We insist.
Liz: We beg.
(Robin stands in front of her two old friends with her hands on her hips clearly thinking, then suddenly she smiles brightly.)
Robin: Lucky! How do you feel about putting together a book case?
(Lucky smiles widely and powers up his drill once again.)
Lucky: Lead the way, Scorpio.
(Liz looks at Robin and smiles.)
Liz: And me?
Robin (smiles): Oh, I have the hardest task for you.
Liz: Uh oh. You know that I am an amazing painter, right?
Robin: On a canvas. (Smiles wider) No, what I have in mind for you… is even more special.
(Robin takes Liz’s hand and guides her toward her bedroom. Once inside the bedroom, Liz’s eyes immediately travel to her bed and notices a good fifteen boxes sitting on top of it.)
Liz: Are those…
Robin: All of my clothes. (Looks at her) You are going to help me organize my closets.
(Liz walks over to the bed and opens up one of the boxes. She pulls out a long, flowing black dress.)
Liz: Now, this is very Un-Dr. Scorpio like.
Robin: You can thank Brenda for that one.
(Liz pulls out another dress. She looks at it for a moment then looks back at Robin.)
Liz: Why don’t you ever wear any of these?
Robin: I didn’t know the “evening gown and white lab coat” look was in.
Liz: It’s the rave all over Europe, didn’t you know?
Robin (smiles): See! That must’ve happened after I left Paris.
(Liz lowers the dress she was admiring then looks back at Robin.)
Liz: Don’t you miss it? I don’t think I’d be able to leave Europe if I ever lived there.
Robin: If everyone that mattered to you was somewhere else, you could.
Liz: Do you ever wonder what your life would’ve been like if Jason never got sick?
Robin: Sometimes, but I can’t think about it too much. (Sighs) It’s almost ironic, you know? I left Port Charles because of Jason and returned, more or less, because of him.
Liz: Yeah, but you didn’t stay because of him… and that was the most important choice.
Robin: Very true.
(Robin looks up when she hears Lucky calling her from other room.)
Lucky: ROOOOBIN!!
Robin: Yeah?!?!
Lucky: Where, on earth, did ever you find a bookcase this big?
Robin (laughs): Have you seen how many books I have?
Lucky: Uh… sweetie, remember that library we took Cameron to? I think we found an even better one.
Liz: Uh… honey, somehow I think Robin’s reading material may be a little over Cameron’s head.
Lucky: I don’t know about that. I seemed to have found a pretty well-read copy of “the Monster at the End of this Book.”
(Robin’s mouth falls as she runs out of her bedroom and back toward Lucky. She snatches the book out of his hand.)
Robin: This is a classic!
Lucky: For pre-schoolers, perhaps.
Robin: You know, I was a pre-schooler once.
Lucky: Yes, but most people don’t keep mementos from that period.
(Robin sighs as she looks down at the torn and tattered book.)
Robin: Well, when you have a childhood like ours, you try to hold on to what you can.
(Lucky nods for a moment in silence, then meets Robin’s eyes when she looks back at him.)
Lucky: I still have my first copy of “the Complete Adventures of Curious George.”
Robin: Really?
Lucky: My mom read that book to me every night for a span of three years.
Robin (softly): I really miss your mom.
Lucky (nods): Me too.
(Lucky tenderly touches the side of Robin’s face then walks back toward the pile of wood in the middle of her living room. Robin watches him in silence then looks up when Liz appears next to her.)
Liz (whispers): You’re probably one of the only people who understand what he’s going through.
Robin (looks at her): Because I lost my parents?
Liz: That… and you lived with unconventional parents, and loved them just as much as you would’ve if they were the Cleavers.
Robin: You heard that my dad left town, right?
Liz: Luke mentioned it to Lucky.
(Robin just nods quietly and starts to pick at one of her boxes. Liz watches her then decides to change the subject… to something lighter.)
Liz: So, what is this I heard about you asking Patrick out on a date?
(Robin looks up with widened eyes.)
Robin: I what? I did no such thing! I offered to buy him dinner for saving my life, that’s all! No date! Is he telling people it’s a date?!?!
Liz: I just happened to overhear him telling Noah something about dinner and I just assumed…
Robin: Well, you assumed wrong!
(Robin shakes her head.)
Robin: He’s telling people this is a date, isn’t he? (Covers her face) I must look like an idiot. (Looks at her) He’s sleeping with Carly, you know? I’m an idiot. (Shaking her head) I must’ve still been on drugs when I asked him out.
Liz: Robin, I…
Robin: I’m putting a stop to this right now.
Liz: What are you doing?
(Robin walks over to her counter and picks up her cordless phone. She quickly dials in a few numbers then listens intently.)
Robin: Hi. Yes, I’d like to order a meal to be delivered. (Looks at Liz) Patrick’s on duty tonight, right?
Liz: Yeah, but…
Robin (on the phone): I’ll like an order of the filet mignon and fresh vegetables. Thank you. Please send it to General Hospital. Yes. To Dr. Patrick Drake. To be delivered… around 7 o’clock. And can you include a note? Okay. Please write… I hope you enjoy your meal. Thank you for saving my life. Robin.
(Lucky stands up and walks over to Liz.)
Lucky: What’s going on?
Liz: I think I just made an enemy.
Lucky: Who? Robin?
Liz: Not quite. Patrick Drake.
Setting: General Hospital
(Patrick Drake walks confidently toward the Nurses’ Station. Today had been a pretty decent day so far. He performed three successful surgeries already, and it wasn’t even noon. He smiles slightly as he finally approaches the nurses’ station and grabs one of the post-op forms he was required to fill out. He looks up when Maxie Jones walks onto the Nurses’ Station.)
Patrick: How is my favorite volunteer?
(Maxie looks back at Patrick then turns around to see if he could be referring to someone else then looks at him again.)
Maxie: Are you talking to me?
Patrick: You are the only volunteer here, no?
Maxie: Yes, I am. (Smiles) So, I’m your favorite now? Since when?
Patrick: I’ve always admired your skill, Maxie.
(Maxie shakes her head slightly as she reaches for a file.)
Maxie (murmurs): More like admired my company.
(Patrick looks up.)
Patrick: Excuse me?
Maxie; Oh nothing!
(Patrick goes back to his forms when the phone next to him rings. Maxie reaches toward it and answers.)
Maxie: Sixth floor, General Hospital. How can I help you? (Looks at Patrick) Yes, there is a doctor Patrick Drake on staff here.
(Patrick looks up curiously.)
Maxie: Will he be here at 7 tonight?
(Maxie pulls out the schedule of all the attending doctors and scans it.)
Maxie: Yes, he will. (Smiles) Oh yes! I’ll be sure to let him know. Thanks!
(Maxie hangs up the phone and looks at Patrick.)
Maxie: I hope you don’t have dinner plans tonight.
(Patrick leans on the desk and smirks back toward Maxie.)
Patrick: I think I might be a little too old for you, Maxie.
Maxie: Nice to know you do have a standard, at least… but no, I’m not asking you out on a date. That was the Metro Court. You will be getting a dinner made especially for you delivered around 7.
Patrick: I… I didn’t place an order for dinner.
Maxie: You didn’t have to. It was made by Robin.
(Patrick suddenly smiles.)
Patrick: So, Dr. Scorpio is worried about me being famished?
(Maxie suddenly bursts out laughing.)
Maxie: I don’t necessarily think that’s her biggest concern. The guy from the Metro Court said it was from a grateful patient. (Smirks) If I didn’t know better, I think Robin is thanking you with a dinner.
Patrick: By delivery?
Maxie: What were you expecting, Dr. Drake? A more personal touch?
(Before Patrick can respond, the doors to the elevator opens and a young man in his mid-to-late-twenties walks toward the Nurses’ Station. Maxie looks at Patrick.)
Maxie: Excuse me.
(Maxie walks toward the young man as Patrick goes back to his forms.)
Maxie: Can I help you?
Male: I’m hoping you can.
(Maxie smiles at the sound of this man’s voice. He was British. And handsome!)
Maxie: I can sure try.
Male: I’m looking for a Dr. Robin Scorpio.
(Patrick looks up from his forms.)
Maxie: Oh, I’m sorry. She’s off for the next few days.
Male (disappointed): Oh.
Maxie: Are you one of her patients? Because Dr. Drake has taken over most of Dr. Scorpio’s cases, while she’s off and…
(The young man raises his hands and shakes them “no.”)
Male: No, this is purely personal… not professional.
(Okay, that got both Maxie and Patrick’s attention. Who was this man?!?)
Maxie (surprised): Oh.
Male: Do you think it’s possible for you to call at her home for me?
(Patrick stares back at this guy – who the hell was he?!?!?)
Maxie (hesitant): Sure. (Looks at him) And who should I say is asking for her?
Male: Aidan.
(Maxie’s entire face lights up and she covers her mouth in shock.)
Maxie: Aidan! (Looks at him) You’re Aidan!?!?
Aidan (smiles): Yes!
Maxie: I’m Maxie! Maxie Jones?!?
Aidan (nods): Maxie, of course! Robin’s told me about you. It’s nice to meet you!
Maxie: You too! You have no idea!
Aidan (smiles): So, Robin’s told you about me?
Maxie: Yes, but she never said you were so… (Shakes her head) I’m sorry! She is going to be so psyched to see you!
(Aidan rubs the back of his neck.)
Aidan: Yeah, I wanted to surprise her… but I’m starting to think maybe I should’ve called first.
Maxie: No! You are going to surprise her! (Excited) And I am going to help you!
(Maxie reaches for a notepad and scribbles down an address. She rips off the top page and gives it to Aidan.)
Maxie: This is Robin’s new address. She just moved into this amazing apartment like a week ago. She is going to be so happy to see you! (Looks at him) Aidan, you might be exactly what the doctor ordered.
(Maxie walks from behind the nurses’ station and guides Aidan to the elevator. Patrick turns around and watches them, shaking his head.)
Patrick: Not this doctor.
Chapter 4
Setting: Robin’s Apartment
(Robin is alone in her apartment. She’s walking out from her bathroom,
fresh from a shower. Lucky and Liz Spencer left a few hours ago. The three of
them got her apartment in pretty decent shape. Robin smiles as she looks around
her apartment – it was finally shaping up. It was looking like a home! She
hugs herself slightly and sighs at the feel of her new white, fluffy robe. She
mentally reminds herself to thank Brenda for his “get well” gift again!
Robin shoots up slightly when she hears a slight knocking on her door.
Curiously, she walks over to her door, looks through the peephole, gasps in
shock then swings her door open.)
Aidan: How’s my favorite cousin doing?
Robin (ecstatic): AIDAN!
(Robin flies into Aidan’s arms and he catches her happily. They hug for several minutes until Aidan softly lowers her onto her feet and she looks up at him.)
Robin: What in the world are you doing here?
Aidan: Well, I was sent to check up on you.
(Robin sighs as Aidan walks into her apartment and she closes the door behind him. He immediately takes her hand and leads her to her couch.)
Robin: My mom.
Aidan: I didn’t actually speak to her, but I did receive an email asking me to check in with you.
Robin: An email? Nice.
(Robin and Aidan face another. He pushes back a strand of her wet hair.)
Aidan: I saw the articles about your father.
(Robin looks down and stares at her hands.)
Robin: Do you think my mom knows?
Aidan: That your father is alive? I’m sure she does now. (She looks back up at him) And she’s hunting him down.
Robin: Good luck with that one, mom. (Simply) Obviously, if Robert Scorpio doesn’t want to be found, he won’t.
Aidan: I’m sorry I wasn’t here for you sooner.
Robin: Aidan, there’s no way you could’ve known about any of this.
Aidan: When I saw the news about the outbreak of encephalitis, it never occurred to me that you could be affected.
Robin: And it seems like you had your own near death experience to live through. A bomb, Aidan? At a charity event, no less?
Aidan: What can I say? Pine Valley is never dull. (Sighs) Which is why it’s sort of nice to take a break from it.
Robin: And you think Port Charles is any calmer? You will lose that opinion in like five minutes, guarantee.
Aidan: This seems like a nice little town.
Robin: It is. I like it.
Aidan: And you’re happy here?
Robin: Yeah, for the most part. (Smiles) Even happier, now that I have my apartment figured out.
Aidan: Yeah, Maxie was telling me you just got this place.
Robin: Maxie? You met Maxie?
Aidan: I went to the hospital first looking for you.
Robin (surprised): Oh…
(Before Robin can finish her statement, there is another knocking on her door. She looks back at Aidan.)
Robin: I’m sorry. I have no idea who that could be.
Aidan: I’ll make us some tea.
(Aidan stands up and walks toward Robin’s kitchen as she walks toward the door, still in her robe fresh from her shower. She looks through the peephole and sighs inwardly at the sight of Patrick Drake. What in the world was he doing here? Maybe he’d leave, if she didn’t answer. Robin stands in front of her door for a moment simply staring at it, then grunts slightly when the knocking just persists and even gets louder. She glances toward Aidan, who made himself pretty comfortable in her kitchen, then takes a deep breath and opens her door.)
Robin (shortly): Hi.
(Patrick looks somewhat taken back to see Robin’s appearance. She clearly just took a shower and the robe she wore barely covered her knees.)
Patrick: Am I interrupting?
(Robin turns around, looks at Aidan then looks back at Patrick.)
Robin: Is now the best time? No.
(Patrick looks over Robin’s shoulder and sees that British guy from the hospital in her kitchen.)
Patrick: And I thought most men went for cigarettes after…
(Robin’s mouth falls as she pushes Patrick further into the hallway and closes her door behind her. Aidan did not need to hear the filth coming out of his mouth.)
Patrick: What? Don’t want to ruin the mood?
Robin (annoyed): Do you NOT have any manners at all?
Patrick: Manners? You’re the one that bailed on our agreed upon dinner! And quite rudely, I add.
Robin: Bailed?!?! I offered to buy you dinner, Patrick – just dinner… you were the one that went around the hospital telling everyone that I was begging you for a date.
Patrick: Around the hospital? Where are you getting your stories from? You haven’t even back at GH since you were discharged. Unless you’ve bugged the nurses’ station, you have no idea what I go around saying.
Robin: Oh please, Patrick! You are so predictable! I can just see you – telling anyone that would listen, about how Dr. Scorpio finally caved in and wants your miracle hands to cure her outside of the hospital.
(A frustrated Patrick looks back at Robin.)
Patrick: You’re joking, right? Do you know how many issues you have?
(Robin looks back at Patrick.)
Robin: I have issues?!?! Look in the mirror! Oh wait; I’m sorry, there is probably no need for me to even suggest that since you probably have a mirror with you at all times!
Patrick: Are you saying I’m conceited?
(Robin crosses her arms in front of her chest and stares up at Patrick.)
Robin: If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck.
Patrick: Remind me again why I worked so hard to save your life.
(Robin looks down slightly as Patrick sighs and shakes his head. He rubs the back of his neck. Finally, there is an intense silence between them. She finally looks back at him.)
Robin (softly): Because you’re a brilliant doctor.
(Patrick shakes his head again then looks directly at Robin.)
Patrick: I did not go around the hospital and tell tales about you. I am a man, Robin; I don’t play juvenile games.
(Robin has to snicker slightly. There were times when Patrick defined the term “juvenile.”)
Robin: This isn’t juvenile? You come to my home and accuse me of… what exactly are you accusing me of? Sleeping with that man in my kitchen?
(Patrick looks away and locks his jaw slightly.)
Robin: See, unlike you, Patrick… I am discrete.
(Patrick looks back at her.)
Robin: I would never throw my sexual escapades in someone’s face… no matter how badly I wanted to get a rise out of them.
(Patrick simply shakes his head without saying anything.)
Robin: Not that it’s any of your business, but Aidan is my cousin… not some foreign lover.
(Patrick looks back at her.)
Robin: And I sent you that dinner as a token of my gratitude for saving my life. Thank you.
Patrick: Robin, I didn’t save your life for a free meal! (Frustrated) I don’t want the dinner!
Robin (frustrated): Then, what do you want from me?!?!
Patrick: What I’ve wanted from day-one. I want…
(Before Patrick can finish his statement, the door to Robin’s apartment opens revealing Aidan Devane. He looks down at his cousin.)
Aidan: Is everything okay out here?
(Robin stares at Patrick.)
Robin: Yeah, it’s fine.
Aidan: Well, you shouldn’t be standing out here in the hallway. It’s drafty and you just took a shower.
(Robin looks back at her cousin. She hadn’t even realized how chilly it was in the hallway – her body was burning up with adrenaline, thanks to Patrick Drake. She closes her eyes and nods.)
Robin: You’re right.
(Aidan looks back at Patrick.)
Aidan: Maybe you can finish this conversation at another time. (Looks at her) Robin?
(Robin nods then looks back at Patrick.)
Robin (softly): Good night, Patrick.
(Patrick just stands there frozen as Robin turns around and walks back into her apartment with her cousin directly behind her. What in the world was he doing here? This wasn’t him! He was just about to admit something that he couldn’t take back. He was almost grateful that the British guy came out and stopped him. Just as he turns to leave, his cell phone suddenly rings and Patrick opens it.)
Patrick: Patrick Drake.
Liz: Hey Patrick. It’s Liz.
Patrick: Nurse Spencer.
Liz: I kind of wanted to warn you about something.
Patrick: Okay.
Liz: I think might of said something to Robin earlier that she misinterpreted.
Patrick (annoyed): Oh, that was you?!?! You’re the mole?
Liz: Patrick…
Patrick: I would appreciate it if you didn’t spread rumors about me, especially false ones.
Liz: Oh, like you don’t already do that on your own?
Patrick: I have no idea what you’re talking about.
Liz: Look, I apologize for Robin getting the wrong idea about what I told her, but you planted that wrong idea months ago when you led her to believe you were having an affair with Carly Corinthos.
(There’s an awkward silence on the phone.)
Liz: That’s what I thought. (Pauses) I’m sorry… I really am, but Robin’s heart shouldn’t be treated like some game piece.
Patrick: Thank you for your astute observations, Elizabeth, but I have to go.
(Patrick closes his phone, hanging up on Elizabeth. Hearing the dial tone, Elizabeth turns toward her husband as they share a burger at Kelly’s.)
Liz: Happy?
Lucky: Look, Carly saved my life and I will forever be grateful to her… but that didn’t blind me to the wrongs she did. She hurt Robin badly in the past and will continue to do so, if she’s allowed. If Patrick wants to let Carly use him, that’s his problem… but she won’t use him to hurt Robin. That’s where it becomes our problem.
Liz: You’re right. (Simply) You’re right.
(Meanwhile inside Robin’s apartment, Aidan hands her a cup of tea as he sits across from her again on the couch.)
Aidan: So, don’t tell me… was that your boyfriend?
(Robin looks down at the steaming cup of tea in her hands.)
Robin: Not quite.
Aidan: Potential boyfriend?
Robin: I don’t think I would go that far either.
Aidan: Well, it seemed like I interrupted something intense.
Robin: Patrick was the doctor that saved my life.
Aidan: Oh… so you yelled at him?
Robin (laughs): No! Well… yes! But, he can also be a jerk. (Looks at him) He accused us of being lovers.
Aidan: Oh, so he’s a jealous jerk?
Robin: I don’t think it was about jealousy. (Shakes her head) He just likes to bother me about my personal life, or lack of one.
Aidan: Bother you how?
Robin: I don’t know…
Aidan: Well, it’s none of his business how you spend your time, Robin! If you need me to say something to the not-so-good doctor, just tell me.
Robin: NO!
Aidan: Okay, but…
Robin: No, buts… I just meant that he’s always pushing me to smile more or go out more. He thinks I should be more open.
Aidan: And you’re not?
Robin: With him? No.
Aidan: And why is that?
Robin: He’s a jerk! Patrick Drake, may have saved my life, but that didn’t change who he is. (Looks down at her cup again) He is someone who would just chew me up and spit me out without a second’s thought.
Aidan: Is that even possible?
(Robin looks back at her cousin.)
Aidan: You aren’t the type of woman that men don’t give second thoughts about. (Smiles) Robin, you are the type of woman that a man can’t get out of his head. The type of woman that he wishes he could just “spit out.” Trust me… the way you two were going at it, out there… Patrick is not soon to forget you.
