- Hours Later
Setting: Robin & Patrick's Apartment
(It's later in the night. The entire apartment is eerily quiet. Patrick Drake opens the door to his apartment and sighs. It was a long day. His last surgery went much longer than expected. He's surprised to open the door and see nothing, but darkness. He thought Robin was already home. After getting out of his last surgery, he checked the schedule and it seemed like Robin had her last appointment early in the afternoon. She wasn't home, though. Patrick throws the contents of his pockets onto their table then walks toward their bedroom. He really wanted to get out of his “work clothes.” Patrick opens the door and stops shortly at the sight of Robin standing in complete darkness staring down at one of her blouses in her hands.)
Patrick (softly): Robin?
(The sound of Patrick's voice catches Robin off guard. She looks up at him.)
Robin: Hey…
(Patrick walks over to the small lamp resting on top of their desk and turns it on.)
Patrick: Is there a reason you're standing in the dark?
Robin (softly): No…
(Robin just shakes her head then places the blouse she was holding into a suitcase. Patrick hadn't noticed it before.)
Patrick (confused): Going somewhere?
(Robin turns around and looks at Patrick. He notices that she won't really meet his gaze.)
Robin (softly): A medical conference in New York City.
Patrick: Since when?
Robin: Alan told me about it this morning. He wanted to attend, but he won't be able to… so he's sending me in his place.
(Patrick moves toward Robin and sits down on the bed next to her suitcase and in front of her.)
Patrick: For how long?
(Robin looks down and sighs.)
Robin: A few days – not long.
(Patrick reaches toward Robin and places both of his hands on her hips as he tries to meet her gaze.)
Patrick: That is long.
(Robin looks away again then moves from Patrick's grasp. He can tell something is off with her. Patrick follows Robin as she moves toward their bathroom.)
Patrick: What did you do today?
(Robin looks up as she starts collecting her toiletries to bring with her.)
Robin: Today? Nothing much. I ran into Nikolas and spent some time with him.
(Patrick sighs as he leans back on the sink.)
Patrick: Nikolas Cassidine?
(Robin nods as she reaches for her protocol.)
Patrick: So, I'm guessing that he's still hating on me, huh?
(Robin turns her head and looks at him.)
Robin: No, no…
Patrick: He can't stand me, Robin.
Robin (simply): Nikolas knows we're together. He's fine with you.
Patrick: I doubt that.
(Patrick watches Robin as she goes back to collecting her toiletries. He was certain that something was off with her, but still didn't know what.)
Patrick: What did you do with Nikolas?
Robin (simply): We went for a walk then he came back here and we had lunch. (looks down) Nothing big.
(Patrick just nods.)
Patrick: And the lights were off because…
(Robin looks up wide eyed at Patrick.)
Robin (offended): Are you accusing me of something?
(Patrick reaches toward Robin and touches her arm.)
Patrick (quickly): No, no…
(He really hadn't meant it like that. He just knew that the lights being off didn't seem right. He honestly had not meant to tie that into Nikolas's visit. Nikolas Cassidine was not a threat to Patrick whatsoever – nor should he be. He knew Robin loved him.)
Patrick (runs his hand through his hair): I didn't mean it like that, Robin. I promise.
(Robin nods.)
Robin: I know, I'm sorry. (sighs) I just had the lights off because… I don't know. I never turned them on. When I came home it was daylight and after Nikolas left, I just… I sat and thought. (simply) And you don't need light to think.
(Patrick sighs.)
Patrick: Okay.
(Patrick slowly leans forward and gently pulls Robin toward him.)
Patrick: So, what were you thinking about?
(Robin looks down again, but this time Patrick lifts up her chin, so she has to meet his gaze.)
Robin (softly): Nothing… just thoughts.
Patrick: Was I in your thoughts?
(Robin finally smiles for the first time since Patrick came home. She softly touches the side of his face.)
Robin (simply): Always.
Patrick: Good. (reaches toward her) Come here.
(Patrick simply cups Robin's face in his hands and brings her mouth down to his and kisses her softly again and again. He eventually pulls away and looks directly at her.)
Patrick: I'm going to miss you, Scorpio.
(Robin just stares back at Patrick then reaches toward him and hugs him tightly.)
Robin: Me too.
(Patrick runs his hands up and down Robin's back as he holds her then kisses her shoulder.)
Patrick (softly): I love the way we fit.
(Robin closes her eyes and settles further into Patrick's arms. They stand in silence for several moments, just like that. Robin runs her fingers through Patrick's hair, letting the continuous motion soothe her.)
Robin: Do you think we can stay like this all night?
(Patrick smiles.)
Patrick: You know I have the stamina.
(Robin laughs softly into Patrick's neck as he holds her tighter.)
Patrick: You know, if something happened today… you could tell me.
(Robin pulls away from Patrick slowly and looks down as he keeps his grip firmly on her hips.)
Robin (softly): I know I can. (Breathes) I just need some time to think.
(Patrick straightens up slightly and without even realizing it tightens his grip on Robin's hips.)
Patrick (straightly): About us?
(Robin looks up slowly and her eyes finally meet Patrick's. There's another intense silence between them until Robin simply shakes her head and raises her hands to Patrick's shoulders. She looks directly at him.)
Robin (emotionally): Patrick, I love you.
(Patrick breathes a sigh of relief and closes his eyes. Robin eases slightly in Patrick's arms and slowly reaches toward him. She gingerly touches his face as she studies him silently.)
Robin: Sometimes I think I fell in love with you when I first met you. (Laughs softly) Maybe not you, in general. But, I think I fell in love with your passion. (Pauses) And I certainly fell in love with your brilliance.
(Robin lowers her hands from Patrick's face and brings them to cover his hands that were still gripping her hips.)
Robin: And then I fell in love with your hands. (Smiles) And that was before they ever touched me.
(Robin slowly brings Patrick's hands up to her lips and kisses them tenderly.)
Robin: And once they touched me… I was a goner. (Looks at him) You probably don't even remember the first time you touched me. (Smiles) We were at the Nurses' Station and we both reached for a pen at the same time. (Softly) Romantic, right?
(Patrick stares back at Robin for a long time then nods. He couldn't even get the words out himself.)
Patrick (hoarsely): Very.
(Robin smiles as she lowers her hands to Patrick's chest.)
Robin: I love you, Patrick. (Emotionally) Don't ever doubt that.
(Patrick reaches up and caresses the side of Robin's face.)
Patrick (simply): Come with me to bed.
(Robin looks down as Patrick continues to stare back at her.)
Patrick: I know you have a million thoughts running in your head. I can see it.
(Robin just bites her bottom lip emotionally.)
Patrick: And I know that you are going to use this medical conference as an escape.
(Patrick reaches slowly toward Robin and gently wipes the tears from under her eyes.)
Patrick: Just don't use it as an escape from me. (She looks back at him) From us.
(Robin doesn't respond. She simply crashes her lips onto his and kisses him passionately. It doesn't take long for Patrick to respond. He simply moves his hand firmly to nape of Robin's neck and deepens the kiss, taking all of her in. She gasps unexpectedly as he forces her mouth open. The kiss wasn't gentle. It was about need. Their need for each other. Robin lowers her hands to Patrick's waist and quickly pulls his shirt from his jeans then quickly begins to pull it open.)
Patrick (breathlessly): Robin…
(Without any words, Patrick pulls her on top of him. They wouldn't even make it to their bedroom. Robin reaches above Patrick's head for their medicine cabinet and takes out their necessary protection as he moves his kisses from her chin to her neck. He wanted to touch her, touch her everywhere… he slowly lowers his hands from her face to the buttons of her blouse and he can hear the deep intake of her breath as his fingers lazily undoes each button. She couldn't keep doing that. She never had any idea what that single sound did to him. And he just wanted to touch her, feel her skin against his, feel her skin react to the touch of his. Patrick gingerly runs his hands up the sides of her body and returns his kisses to her lips. He will never taste another woman like this. It was sweet. It was intoxicating. It was Robin. Pure Robin. It was all her and he wanted all of her. And when she kissed him and touched him the way she was, he knew that he had all of her… and would do anything to keep her.)
- The Next Day
Setting: The Gramercy Hotel
(It's early in the afternoon. Robin Scorpio walks toward her room at the Gramercy Hotel in the heart of New York City. Room 529. She was officially in New York City. Robin slowly opens the door to her hotel room and sighs. She was alone. Patrick was right last night. She was using the medical conference as an escape. Not from him, necessarily, or from their situation… but it was an escape. Maybe an escape for him. As much as she didn't want to admit it, Carly's vile words got to her. She was right. Patrick Drake of today was not the same Patrick Drake Robin had met. He had changed. And Robin would be lying if she didn't wonder if there were some truth to what Carly suggested – did Robin unintentionally force Patrick to change to be with her? And now she was pregnant with his child. It was only natural for Robin to wonder if Patrick felt trapped somewhat. Those thoughts bothered her. She didn't want Patrick to change. But suddenly, Robin felt like her entire life was about change. She was changing. Patrick was changing. They were both changing. And it scared her. Robin slowly sits down on her bed and reaches for her purse. She quickly opens it and takes out her cell phone. She had one missed call – Nikolas. Robin sighs. Nikolas. He was calling to check on her after what had happened with Carly. She wishes that he hadn't seen her so upset. Hell, Robin wishes she didn't get so upset, at all. She absolutely hated that Carly could still get to her. Robin closes her eyes and falls back onto the hotel bed. She truly hated that all this stuff got to her.)
Setting: General Hospital
(It's been a quiet day at the hospital. Patrick Drake walks out from the locker room and sighs. He was bored. He had never been at General Hospital and been bored… but then again he'd never been at General Hospital without Robin. After he finished his last surgery, Patrick tried calling Robin's room at her hotel to see how she was feeling, but there wasn't an answer. She was probably already at the conference. Patrick just couldn't shake the feeling that there was something she wasn't telling him. He had offered in the morning to drive Robin to the train station, but she insisted on going on her own. He wanted to fight her on it, but she seemed incredibly determined… so he dropped it. She had left him a message when she arrived at the hotel, so at least he knew she was there safe and sound. Patrick is about to try and call her again when suddenly Dillon Hornsby leaps toward him from the elevator.)
Dillon: Hey Genius Drake!
(Patrick spins around as Dillon smiles widely toward him.)
Dillon: Congratulations are in order, right?
(Patrick nods.)
Patrick: Thank you.
(Dillon looks around the Nurses' Station then leads Patrick toward the waiting area at GH.)
Dillon: So, where is your better half?
Patrick (confused): My better what…
Dillon: I wanted to drop this off for her.
(Patrick looks down as Dillon reveals what looks like a camera bag.)
Patrick (confused): Robin wanted a video camera?
(Dillon leans in toward Patrick.)
Dillon: Yes! She just doesn't know it yet! (Excited) How do you feel about bringing a video camera into your home?
(Patrick politely smiles then pushes the camera bag back toward Dillon.)
Patrick: It didn't work too well for Nick and Jessica… so, I think I'm going to pass.
Dillon: Just hear me out… this could be brilliant. You could create a video diary for your child. It's totally cool. You've seen the Real World before, right?
Patrick: Yeah, like ten years ago when it was still considered cutting edge.
Dillon: And MTV still played music videos… I get it. But, you get my idea?
Patrick: I get your idea, but I don't know if Robin and I want to be your next reality show.
Dillon: Hey! Don't do it for me, man. (Simply) Do it for your kid.
(Dillon just looks back at Patrick.)
Dillon: It's just an idea.
(Patrick sighs as he places his hands firmly on his hips.)
Patrick: I promise… you'll be the first one we call if Robin and I want to start making home movies.
Dillon: Cool. (Smiles) So, you missed a wild night at the Scorpio house last week. (Leans toward him) Why didn't you join us? Scared of aging ex-spies?
(Patrick leans in toward Dillon.)
Patrick: I wouldn't say that too loud if I were you… there could be bugs all over this hospital.
(Dillon laughs as he nods.)
Dillon: Wow… you were scared. Not that I blame you, come to think of it. (Looks at him) Anna Devane is one scary mom.
(Patrick looks back at the younger man standing in front of him.)
Patrick: Speaking of which… how did they react to Robin's news?
(Dillon laughs.)
Dillon: Like Scorpios. Mac got all pasty; Anna got all “Mama Bear” defensive; Felicia got sentimental. (Laughs) All in all, a good time was had by all.
(Patrick looks down. Dillon doesn't know how to read his silence.)
Dillon: But they were happy for you both.
(Patrick looks back up at Dillon.)
Dillon (genuinely): Very happy.
(Patrick just nods. Dillon looks behind him. There was still no one around them. He leans in toward him.)
Dillon: And she loves you. Robin impressively went toe-to-toe with her family for you. (Simply) She must love you a lot to get down and dirty with an overprotective Aussie and violent Brit. (Softly) All joking aside – I get the distinct feeling that you are Robin's entire world.
(Patrick looks away for a moment toward the elevators. Dillon could tell that while it made Patrick uncomfortable to hear that coming from him, it also comforted him strangely.)
Dillon: Uh… I should go. I'm meeting Lulu for lunch and she gets really cranky when she's hungry.
(Patrick nods. He watches Dillon start toward the elevator then calls back to him.)
Patrick: Dillon?
(Dillon turns around and looks at the young doctor again.)
Dillon: Yeah?
Patrick (simply): Thank you.
Dillon: Anytime.
(Dillon holds up the camera bag once again and points to it.)
Dillon: Hey… Patrick, this is the true story of two brilliant doctors, picked to fall in love and have their lives taped. Find out what happens when they stop being polite and start getting REAL. The Real World… Drake-Scorpio Style!
(Patrick laughs while shaking his head. And to think, this was his child's uncle… at least it was by marriage. Still standing in the waiting area, Patrick watches Dillon disappear into the elevators and then watches curiously when Nikolas Cassidine comes out of the same elevator. He walks directly toward the Nurses' Station ignoring Patrick and toward Nurse Epiphany Johnson.)
Nikolas: Is Dr. Scorpio in?
Epiphany: Dr. Scorpio is at a medical conference.
Nikolas (looks around): Do you know for how long?
Voice: Why don't you ask me that?
(Nikolas closes his eyes and at the sound of Patrick's, obviously annoyed voice, Epiphany backs away.)
Nikolas: Fine. Dr. Drake, when is Robin back in town?
(Nikolas turns his head and looks fully at Patrick. The two men were obviously not fond of each other. There was a part of Patrick that still blamed Nikolas for Robin's abduction since it was his grandmother that took her. And there was also a part of Patrick that never forgot Nikolas's passionate exclamation of love toward Robin when trying to save her. He said it was pure friendship, but it seemed like more. It always seemed like more with Robin. And of course, Nikolas thought Patrick Drake was a walking joke. He couldn't believe Robin was pregnant with this man's child. He had wanted to tell Robin so badly yesterday when he found out… to run. He was almost tempted to offer up his family's island in Greece. But something stopped him. And only one thing stopped him – Robin obviously loved him.)
Patrick: It's a medical conference. She'll be back in a few days.
(Nikolas just looks back at him.)
Nikolas: Is there a number I can reach her at, besides her cell phone?
Patrick (strongly): Is there a reason you need to?
Nikolas: Do I need one?
(Patrick clenches his fists slightly.)
Patrick (blandly): Leave her a message on her voicemail. If she wants to get back to you, she will.
(Patrick turns to walk away, but stops when he hears Nikolas call out to him.)
Nikolas: I know you don't like me, Dr. Drake. And quite frankly, I could care less.
(Patrick turns around fully and looks at Nikolas.)
Nikolas: However, I do care about Robin.
Patrick (coldly): I haven't noticed.
Nikolas: Well, maybe if you were more observant, doctor – you would be better at choosing your friends.
Patrick: What the hell are you talking about?
(Nikolas ignores Patrick and walks toward the elevator. Once he's gone, Epiphany walks back over toward Patrick.)
Epiphany: Don't mind him, Dr. Drake.
(Patrick turns his head and looks back at Epiphany.)
Patrick: He does want her, right? I'm not being the overly jealous boyfriend, here, right?
Epiphany: The prince obviously cares about Dr. Scorpio. (Simply) And Dr. Scorpio obviously cares about you. (Looks at him) It's a moot point – don't make it into something it's not.
(And with that, Epiphany walks away. Patrick watches her then decides to start his rounds. It was official – day one without Robin sucked.)
Setting: The Gramercy Hotel Conference Room
(Robin Scorpio closes her eyes tiredly as she settles further into her chair. This was the last meeting of the day and Robin could feel exhaustion slowly washing over her. She looks up when she suddenly feels a slight buzzing in her purse next to her. It was her cell phone. Robin reaches into her purse and quickly retrieves it then smiles immediately at the sight of a text message from Patrick. It was a simple message, all of two words – miss you. She traces the screen with her finger then looks up when suddenly she feels someone sit next to her.)
Male: Is this seat taken?
(Robin looks up at the young doctor taking a seat next to her. He was about her age with dark hair.)
Robin: No, go ahead.
(The young doctor sits down next to Robin and she glances toward him then goes back to her cell phone. She quickly types back in – miss you too. Robin sighs softly as she places her phone back in her purse then takes out her notepad. The young doctor watches Robin carefully from the corner of his eyes and grins.)
Male: So, you're one of those?
(Robin looks up curiously.)
Robin: One of those… what?
Male: Note takers.
Robin: Well, I thought you were supposed to take notes at medical conferences.
(The young doctor leans back and laughs.)
Male: If you actually believe half the crap they spew.
Robin: Aah… so, you're not a fan of medical research?
Male: I'm a practitioner. I practice medicine; I don't read about it.
(Robin locks her jaw and nods silently. The young man extends his hand and looks toward her.)
Male: My name is Josh Madden.
(Robin politely shakes his hand.)
Robin: Robin Scorpio.
(Josh suddenly smiles.)
Josh: The researcher.
Robin (smiles): The one and only.
Josh: The chief of staff at my hospital is very fond of routing your articles amongst the doctors.
Robin: So, you've read them?
(Josh smirks as he stares straight ahead.)
Josh: Under great protest.
(Robin shakes her head again as she opens her purse and begins to dig for something.)
Josh: So, you're at General Hospital now, right?
(Robin's head shoots up slightly.)
Josh: Your last article was funded by GH.
Robin (smirks): Not bad for someone who didn't want to read my articles.
(Josh smiles himself as leans back on his chair and crosses his arms over his chest.)
Josh: Maybe you can convince me of their worth… over dinner.
(Robin laughs loudly and Josh's head spins to look toward her.)
Josh (offended): You find that funny?
(Robin stops laughing shakes her head.)
Robin: No, no… I apologize. It's just that you remind me of someone.
Josh: Why do I feel like I shouldn't be flattered by that comparison?
Robin: Well, you should… and you shouldn't. (Looks at him) He's my boyfriend.
Josh (simply): Serious?
Robin (softly): Extremely.
Josh: And let me guess… he thinks your research is pure genius?
(Robin smiles as she looks straight ahead.)
Robin: I don't know if I would use such an extreme word.
Josh: He's a doctor?
(Robin genuinely smiles.)
Robin: Yep… and an extremely brilliant one.
Josh (dryly): Office romances never last.
(Robin shakes her head as she begins to take some notes.)
Robin: You speak from experience?
Josh (laughs): Actually… no. I just started at Pine Valley Hospital.
(Robin's head shoots up again.)
Robin: Pine Valley? I have family in Pine Valley. Do you know Aiden Devane?
Josh: A too nosey private eye… sure.
(Robin rolls her eyes as she turns her entire body away from Josh and looks straight ahead.)
Josh: So, nosiness runs in your family, huh?
(Robin crosses her arms over her chest and continues to stare straight ahead.)
Josh: Okay… so now that you officially shut me and my advances down, why don't you tell me about your boyfriend?
(Robin closes her notebook and sighs.)
Robin: I have a better idea. I think I'm going to call my boyfriend.
Josh: And miss the last seminar?
(Robin smiles politely as she stands up.)
Robin: The research they're about to go over… I co-wrote the article. (Simply) Maybe you should take some notes.
Josh: Or you could come to my room and give me a private tutorial.
Robin (taken back): Wow! You really are sure of yourself. (Pauses) Have a good night, Dr. Madden… alone.
(Josh watches Robin Scorpio disappear and leave the conference room. The moment she's outside the room, Robin reaches into her purse and takes out her cell phone. She calls her apartment immediately and sighs when she gets their answering machine.)
Robin: Patrick, it's me. I was hoping to catch you. I just… I wanted to hear your voice. (Softly) Because I miss you, Dr. Drake.
(Robin slowly walks over to a small bench and sits down on it. The next five words come out much more emotionally than Robin intended. She couldn't fully understand why, but they did…)
Robin: I just really miss you. Call me tonight. I'll be up.
- The Next Day
Setting: Kelly's Diner
(It's early in the morning. Patrick Drake walks into Kelly's and heads immediately toward the counter. He was running late for work this morning. Patrick didn't sleep well the night before and by the time he finally fell asleep, his alarm clock was already blaring at him waking him from his unfulfilling sleep. Georgie looks up from the counter as Patrick approaches it.)
Georgie: Hey Patrick.
Patrick: Hey Georgie. Can I have a coffee and bagel to go?
Georgie (smiles): Robin's not around to cook you breakfast, huh?
(Patrick laughs.)
Patrick: If you speak to her, please tell her how I am suffering.
Georgie: I definitely will. (Looks at him) You can't afford to lose any weight. Stay right here. I'll make sure you're well-nourished.
(Patrick laughs slightly as he sits down at the counter and waits for his breakfast. He reaches into his jacket pocket and quickly takes out his cell phone. He dials in Robin and groans slightly when he hears her voicemail.)
Patrick: Okay, last night I came to a realization… you are never going to any sort of medical conference again without me... because this blows. I am hungry, cranky and horny. (Laughs) It almost reminds me of our first attempts at dinner when we first met. Call me, Dr. Scorpio.
(Patrick smiles as he throws his cell phone back into his pocket. He looks up when suddenly he feels a presence next to him. He turns his head slowly and sighs inwardly when he realizes it's Carly Corinthos.)
Carly: Thank God I found you! Patrick, I've been looking for you all over.
(Patrick looks back at Carly confused.)
Patrick: Me?
Carly: Look, there's something I have to warn you about.
Patrick: Warn me about? Carly, we haven't spoken in months.
Carly: I know, but I still consider you a friend… and I need to look out for you.
Patrick: Please don't.
Carly: Just hear me out.
(Carly turns toward Patrick fully and leans in toward him.)
Carly: Whatever you do – stop sleeping with Robin.
(Patrick's eyes narrow as unbeknownst to them Georgie reappears with Patrick's breakfast.)
Patrick: Excuse me?
(Carly leans in closer toward Patrick.)
Carly: I saw Robin the other day at GH.
(Patrick closes his eyes. He knew this was bad. Whatever Carly had to say was going to be bad.)
Carly: And thank God I did. (Pauses) Patrick, she's going to trap you into giving her a child.
(Patrick's eyes fly open.)
Patrick: Trap?
Carly: I found her reading all these pregnancy books. (Strongly) Patrick, she's going to expose you to HIV… just so you can give her a child.
(Before Carly knows what hits her, Georgie leaps toward her shoves her roughly.)
Georgie: You lying bitch!
(Carly's head spins toward Georgie.)
Carly (angrily): Look, you little brat – don't get angry because I exposed St. Robin for who she is!
Georgie: You have no idea what you're talking about.
Carly: Look, Patrick is a beautiful, healthy, sexual man… I know this may be a little over your head as a high school senior, but he isn't ready to play daddy, especially to Robin Scorpio's brat.
(Georgie's eyes widen as Patrick simply clenches and unclenches his hands.)
Georgie: Get out of here!
Carly: My mother owns this place. If anyone's leaving, half-pint, it's you.
(Patrick finally finds his voice and looks back at Carly.)
Patrick: You fought with Robin?
(Carly spins around and looks directly at Patrick.)
Carly: I called her out on everything, Patrick! I told her that she wasn't going to trap you in a pregnancy that you obviously don't want and then train you like some domesticated animal. I did you a favor, Patrick. Now, that she knows I have her number, she won't be able to trap you.
Georgie (angrily): You are such a bitch.
Carly: Don't you have coffee to pour? This is an adult conversation.
Georgie (scoffs): Like you would even know what that is. You are nothing but an ignorant, hateful, jealous witch that's waiting for a house to fall on her head. You've been jealous of Robin since the day you met her. You never had Jason's love the way she did, or the respect of this entire town, like she has. You never made your own money, like she has or had an ounce of the dignity or respect that she has innately. You are nothing but an ignorant piece of trash, Carly. (Looks at her) And you know what? This may get me fired from your mother's establishment and if it does, I don't care.
(And with that, Georgie pulls her apron off, throws it on the counter then slaps Carly directly across her face eliciting gasps from the entire restaurant. Carly's mouth falls in shock as Georgie turns toward Patrick.)
Georgie: Please fix this, Patrick. (emotionally) Please.
(Patrick stares back at the young girl as everything that has transpired in the last few days flies through his mind: Robin's sudden quietness, her pushing him away… even Nikolas's dig about his chosen friends. Patrick slowly looks back at Carly.)
Carly: You're just going to stand there and let that brat hit me! (Angrily) I'm trying to be a good friend to you and this is the thanks I get?
(Patrick stands up and hovers over Carly silently.)
Patrick (coldly): Stay away from me.
Carly: Patrick, but…
Patrick (coldly): And stay away from Robin and our child.
(Carly's entire face falls as her hand falls from her stinging face.)
Carly: Your child? You mean, she's already pregnant?
Patrick: Come near either of us again… and you will live to regret it.
Carly: Patrick, she exposed you to…
(Patrick angrily slams his hand on the counter of Kelly's, immediately silencing her. The entire restaurant looks up and toward them again.)
Patrick: Don't ever talk about the relationship I have with Robin.
Carly: Patrick…
Patrick: And don't ever talk to her again. If you see her on the street, cross it. If you see her at the hospital, leave.
Carly: Now, you're just being ridiculous.
Patrick: I'm serious, Carly.
(And with that, Patrick flies up from his seat at the counter of Kelly's. Carly watches him dumbfounded as he storms out of the diner. Once outside the diner, Patrick yanks his cell phone from his jacket and quickly dials in a few numbers.)
Patrick: Cancel all my appointments for the next few days. (Strongly) I don't care! Reschedule them!
Setting: Café at the Gramercy Hotel
(It's early in the morning. Robin yawns tiredly. She had a rough time sleeping last night. She wasn't sure if it was sleeping in a bed that wasn't her own or if it was sleeping alone. Robin sighed. She was certain it was the latter. She had grown to depend on Patrick. She got so incredibly accustomed to sleeping next to him every night. It was like an old habit. The way the night would start with her sliding underneath his arm and resting her head on his chest then waking up with him nuzzling her neck while holding her as close to him as possible. It was simple, actually. Patrick Drake became an integral part of her life. They had a routine. Every night they would come home from work, sometimes with a movie and sometimes without, and then make dinner together. They would either eat at their small table or in front of the television, most likely in front of the television, if there was a hockey or baseball game on. They were an old habit. Something Patrick Drake probably never expected to be. Try as she might, Robin still could not get Carly's voice out of her head: “You're planning to trap Patrick, aren't you?”... “You walk around here like some martyr being the HIV+ doctor and go on tours talking about HIV prevention and then you willingly put a man at risk, just so you could feel complete?”…“And even without your HIV, to trap a man like Patrick into becoming some domesticated animal, is just plain manipulative.”… “To be with you, to be worthy of you, Patrick has to change who he is. He was a man, Robin.”…”Are you going to tell me that the Patrick you're with now is the same man you met? Robin, you completely made him change just so he could be in your enlightened presence. And the funny part is – you don't even see it! Or maybe you do and just don't care. And you know why you don't care? Because all you care about is that you're not alone.” Robin closes her eyes and covers her entire face with her hands. She absolutely hated that Carly could get to her like that. Robin slowly uncovers her face and looks around the café. She couldn't stay here. She couldn't even focus her mind on the conference. Robin stands up, grabs her purse and walks out of the café. Today was a good day to experience New York City.)
Setting: Robin & Patrick's Apartment
(Patrick is furiously throwing things into a duffel bag as he walks out from his bedroom. He checks their living room one last time and swings open his door to leave, but jumps back when Noah appears suddenly.)
Patrick: Dad, now is not a good time.
(Noah stops Patrick by gently grasping both of his shoulders.)
Noah: Just talk to me first. What's going on? Is Robin and the baby okay?
Patrick: What?
Noah: Bobbie just told me that I have to take over all of your cases until you come back. (Looks at him) Where are you going?
Patrick: That bitch Carly thinks that Robin is about to trap me into a pregnancy. (Angrily) And she told her that. (Furiously) And of course she threw her HIV in her face.
Noah: And what are you going to do?
Patrick: Dad, if I stay in Port Charles, I'm going to kill Carly Corinthos. I would not be responsible for my actions… so, I am going to find Robin and I am going to make sure that whatever that vindictive bitch told her didn't resonate in her head in any way.
(Noah reaches toward his son and Patrick flies his arm away.)
Noah: Patrick…
Patrick: Dad, no! (Frustrated) I knew it! I knew Robin was pulling away! I knew something changed with her and I still let her go to New York. I know her well enough to know that she has to deal with things on her own time, but I never… I never thought it was this.
Noah: You cannot control Carly's ignorance.
Patrick (angrily): But I can control how her ignorance affects Robin. (Emotionally) She's the woman I love, Dad, and I let her be verbally attacked by an ignorant, jealous witch!
(Noah looks down and sighs. There's a quiet silence until Noah breaks and looks back up at his son.)
Noah: I called the conference. Robin didn't show up today.
(Patrick closes his eyes and runs his hands through his hair.)
Patrick: She didn't?
Noah: She didn't check out of the hotel. She's still there.
(Patrick looks back at his father. He runs his hand over his face.)
Patrick (simply): I don't know if I can fix this.
(Noah watches as his son sits down on his couch defeated.)
Noah: Patrick, don't do this.
(Patrick lowers his head into his hands.)
Patrick: I'm going to mess this up.
(Noah kneels down in front of his son and looks at him.)
Noah (strongly): Patrick! (Repeats himself) Patrick! Look at me.
(Patrick slowly raises his eyes and looks back at his father.)
Patrick: I don't know how to do this! Being supportive never came naturally to me before… neither did being understanding. (Frustrated) I don't know how to do this anymore!
Noah: Yes, you do! You know you do!
Patrick: Dad, I can't… (Emotionally) I don't know how to keep Robin's heart safe. (Looks at him) I'm going to fail her, dad.
(Noah takes a deep breath then looks at his son.)
Noah: Patrick, look at me, you know what you have to do.
Patrick: And if I still fail her?
(Noah releases a soft breath as he stands up slowly, never taking his eyes off of his son.)
Noah: As long as you are always honest… as long as you always love her honestly… you can't fail her, Patrick.
(Patrick looks down again.)
Patrick: And I know what to do?
Noah (simply): You always have. You knew that the last time you went to New York. Now… you just need the courage to do it.
(Patrick laughs for a second and shakes his head.)
Noah: What's so funny?
Patrick: Do you remember what you told me after the Outbreak when I was too scared to go into Robin's room to face her?
(Noah smiles and nods. His mind goes back to that day.)
Noah: Patrick, Robin is alive – and you saved her life! It was your dedication, your beliefs and hopes that brought her back. If you were man enough to save her, be man enough to go into her room and tell her you did.
(Noah shoved Robin's medical folder into Patrick's chest and stormed out of the lounge. In the current moment, Noah laughs slightly as he shakes his head.)
Noah: That's what you call tough love.
Patrick (laughs): More like Drake love.
(Noah laughs as well.)
Noah: Go share that Drake love with your girlfriend.
- Hours Later
Setting: The Garden of the Gramercy Hotel
(It's late in the evening. A slight chill is in the air during this August night in New York City. Robin Scorpio is sitting by herself on a small bench simply staring out into the distance. She couldn't face sitting in a conference room for the entire day today. Her mind just wasn't there, so instead she walked around the city hoping it would clear her head. And it did. When she returned, she quickly showered, changed her clothes then went down for the conference dinner. It was interesting to meet several brilliant doctors and to hear about their treatments, but admittedly she knew her heart wasn't in it tonight – her heart was in Port Charles with a certain egotistical neurosurgeon. It was before dessert that she decided to sneak out and found herself alone in this small garden. During the evening, she had seen Josh Madden hitting on several young female doctors from Llanview Hospital and it was so ironic to Robin. In so many ways, he reminded her of how Patrick use to be and it wasn't until she watched Dr. Madden flirt relentlessly with several female doctors that she realized how different Patrick actually was now. He had changed… but she loved him then and continued to love him now. She loved Patrick Drake in any variation available and that frightened her slightly. The intensity of her feelings didn't frighten her; it was that Patrick had actually changed for her. He changed for her without her even asking him to. And the intensity of his feelings frightened her. She was his entire world. Robin closes her eyes again as she leans back on the small bench and rubs her bare arms.)
Voice: There is something so wrong with the world when such a beautiful woman as yourself is sitting by herself.
(Robin's eyes spring open as she flies around in her bench. She immediately leaps to her feet and flies into Patrick's arms.)
Robin (softly): Patrick…
(Patrick sighs as a pure feeling of happiness washes over him.)
Patrick: You look beautiful.
(Robin pulls away slowly and looks back at him.)
Robin: What are you doing here?
(Patrick lifts one of his hands and gently runs his thumb underneath her eyes.)
Patrick: You've been crying.
(Robin freezes slightly as she backs away slowly from Patrick.)
Robin: It's nothing.
Patrick: It's not. (Clears his throat) It's not. And we need to talk about it.
(Robin pulls away fully from Patrick and looks down.)
Robin (softly): That's why you're here. (Pushes a strand of hair behind her ear) Nikolas told you, didn't he?
Patrick: Why didn't you?
(Robin looks back at Patrick. She stares back at him as tears easily brim her eyes.)
Robin: I don't know, Patrick. I sort of struggled finding the words to tell you that Carly accused me of wanting to trap you with my demon spawn.
(Patrick sighs as he runs his hand behind his neck.)
Patrick: Robin…
Robin (upset): I'm sorry. I didn't know how to find the right words to convey what she was accusing me of. That I would intentionally expose you to HIV just so I could have a child with you… how do you find the words for that?
(Patrick reaches toward her and gently touches her arm.)
Patrick: I don't know… but you try.
Robin (upset): I couldn't! (Emotionally) Patrick, Carly's accused me of some pretty heinous things… but that… that I would purposely hurt you in that way… she's never said anything that's hurt me more.
(Patrick reaches toward Robin and takes both of her hands in his.)
Patrick: I know that. And that's why I'm here. (Calmly) She's a hateful bitch, Robin.
Robin: But, what if I said there were some parts she wasn't so off the mark with?
Patrick: Like what?
Robin: I've changed you.
Patrick (confused): Okay…
Robin: Patrick, you never wanted to settle down. You never wanted to be in a committed relationship… and here I am with your child.
Patrick: Wait! I'm not sure I'm understanding you. Are you trying to tell me that you don't think we were in a committed relationship before you got pregnant?
(Robin closes her eyes frustrated.)
Robin: No… I didn't mean that.
Patrick: Then, I don't think I'm understanding you.
(Robin sits down on the small bench and brings Patrick with her.)
Robin: Patrick, what if you changed who you are to be with me? What if this isn't who you are?
(Patrick looks back at Robin then slowly removes his hands from hers. She can tell that he's angry with her. She can almost feel his anger radiate between them. Patrick shakes his head angrily then stands up.)
Patrick: Damn it, Robin!
(Robin just stares back at him wide-eyed.)
Patrick: How many times and in how many ways have I told you that I love you? (Looks at her) I've must've said it at least hundreds of time by now, right?
(Robin looks down. She can still hear the pain, anger and frustration in Patrick's voice.)
Patrick: I've been a model boyfriend, Robin. I've played this whole thing by the book. I haven't slept around on you. I haven't even looked at any other woman. From the moment this thing started between us, you had me… all of me.
(Robin slowly looks back at Patrick.)
Patrick: And now Carly confronts you and says some line of bull… and all my actions, everything I've done to be with you, to be the man you deserve, gets thrown out the window? (Angrily) That's crap, Robin and you know it!
(Robin wipes her eyes.)
Robin (emotionally): I didn't mean it like that. (Looks at him) You don't think I've seen the change in you? You don't think I've recognized all of the effort you've put in to be the man I should be with?
(Robin stands up and walks over to him.)
Robin: Patrick, you've been perfect. (Simply) Every day, every night, I fall in love with you all over again. (Emotionally) And that scares me.
Patrick (offended): Why? I am still me! I haven't changed! I am who I've always been! (looks at her) And even if I did, why would it scare you if I had?
Robin: Because my worst nightmare, my worst fear, is that one morning you'll wake up and realize that you've sacrificed too much to be with me.
(Patrick takes a deep breath and plants his hands on his hips while staring back at her.)
Patrick: What exactly do you think I'm sacrificing, here, by being with you? (Leans in toward her) One night stands? Countless flings? No-strings attached sex?
(Robin looks away and she forcefully wipes her tears away.)
Patrick: Or is that you think I'm sacrificing my freedom? The option to run off with no kid on my hip to do whatever the hell I want?
(Patrick takes another deep breath.)
Patrick: Maybe you're right, Robin. I am not the exact same man you met almost a year ago in this very city, but I happen to think I am a better man now. (Hurt) And I thought you did too.
(Robin closes her eyes.)
Robin (softly): I do.
Patrick: Then, what is this all about?
(Robin walks slowly toward Patrick and looks back at him.)
Robin: I don't… (Emotionally) Patrick, I don't want to take away your options.
(Patrick releases another breath as he reaches toward Robin and gently cups her face in his hands while looking directly back at her.)
Patrick: You are my only option.
(Robin starts to open her mouth to say something, but he stops her.)
Patrick: You are the only option I want.
(Robin releases a shaky breath and Patrick softly presses his forehead to hers.)
Patrick (softly): Carly doesn't know me. No one else does. (Pulls back slowly and looks back at her) Not like you.
(Patrick takes Robin's hand and places it gently on his heart.)
Patrick: You're the only one that knows what's in here.
(Robin nods and looks down slowly. She softly tries to hold back a sob but fails miserably.)
Robin (emotionally): I'm sorry, Patrick. (wipes her eyes) I'm just scared.
(Patrick leans in and kisses the top of Robin's head.)
Patrick (softly): You don't have to be… not as long as I'm here. And I'll be here for as long as you'll have me, I promise you that.
(Robin wraps her arms tightly around Patrick's waist and leans into his chest.)
Robin: I'll have you forever. (holds him tighter) I love you so much, Patrick. I would rather die than hurt you. I'd do anything not to hurt you. (simply) Patrick, you are the greatest love I ever had.
(Patrick freezes slightly at Robin's words and pulls away slowly from her.)
Patrick: It's getting cold. (He rubs her arms) Let me get you some tea to warm you up.
(Robin nods as Patrick quickly takes his jacket off and places it on her shoulders. He looks at her for a moment then kisses her forehead gently.)
Patrick: I'll be right back.
(Robin sighs softly and watches as Patrick walks back into the hotel. Once he's gone, Robin slips her arms through Patrick's jacket and sits back down on the bench. She looks up at the night sky and releases a soft breath. She was glad Patrick followed her to New York. Running away was never the answer… not that this was intentional running. But it was still running and Robin knew that. And Patrick knew that as well… because he knew her. He knew her so well. They had been through so much together – Jason's surgery, the encephalitis outbreak, Noah's liver transplant, her father's return, Nikolas's crazy grandmother kidnapping her… and now their pregnancy. Patrick was right. He did change, but one doesn't go through the things they went through together and not change. Robin smiles. Maybe change was good. She runs her hand slowly along her stomach and smiles. Change could be really good. Robin bites her bottom lip and suddenly decides she wants to go find Patrick. Just as she stands up from the bench, Patrick's cell phone starts to ring and she recognizes the ring immediately; it was the one he assigned for his father. Robin reaches into Patrick's jacket pocket to retrieve his phone. However, her hand doesn't immediately fetch Patrick's cell phone and instead finds what seems to be a small ring. A ring. Robin's eyes widen somewhat as Patrick's cell phone seems to get louder and louder, deafening her senses as her hand freezes on the petite ring touching her own naked fingers. Patrick's phone simply would not stop ringing and Robin found herself not being able to concentrate until finally she removes her hand from Patrick's pocket bringing the perfect diamond ring with it. Robin stares down at the ring in complete silence… except for the sound of Patrick's booming ring tone. From the entrance of the garden, Patrick walks toward Robin holding two cups of tea and some cookies. He laughs slightly as he hears his father's distinctive tone.)
Patrick (laughs): Dad calling to check in, huh? I knew he wouldn't trust me to not screw this up. (smiles) Hey, it's not like you, Dr. Scorpio, to avoid him… why didn't you answer?
(Patrick freezes when he finally stops in front of Robin and his eyes immediately lower to her hands. He steps back slightly as her eyes slowly raise to his. He can see look of pure shock and confusion reflecting back at him. Patrick quickly reaches toward Robin and snatches his increasingly annoying cell phone from his jacket pocket, hoping it would bring back some clarity between them. He finally stops the phone from ringing and once again complete silence returns to them. Robin slowly opens her mouth as Patrick stares back at her.)
Patrick: Robin, I can explain.
Robin (softly): Patrick… what is this?
(Patrick slowly sits down next to Robin on the small bench. He turns his head slowly toward her and watches her in complete silence as she stares down at the small ring in her fingers. It brought a strange sense of calmness to him to see her holding his mother's ring. It seemed right. Patrick takes a deep breath.)
Patrick: It's my mother's engagement ring.
(Robin nods emotionally as she continues to stare down at it.)
Robin (softly): And do you… do you carry it around all the time?
Patrick (hoarsely): No.
Robin (softly): Oh.
(Patrick reaches toward Robin and gently pushes a strand of her hair behind her ear.)
Patrick (softly): Do you like it?
(Robin slowly looks back at Patrick and smiles emotionally.)
Robin: It's beautiful. (tearfully) Your father had amazing taste.
(Patrick nods.)
Patrick: I thought so too.
(Patrick takes a deep breath then releases it slowly as Robin looks back down at the ring again.)
Patrick: That's why I thought I shouldn't mess with perfection.
(Robin turns her head and looks back at Patrick.)
Robin: What do you mean?
Patrick: It means…
(Robin watches as Patrick slowly moves from the bench and carefully kneels down in front of her. This was really happening. She lowers her eyes and takes a deep intake of breath when Patrick slowly reaches toward her hand and takes it into his.)
Patrick: Robin, will you do me the great honor of becoming my wife?
Setting: The Garden of the Gramercy Hotel
(Robin Scorpio is staring back at Patrick Drake in pure shock. He's kneeling down directly in front of her, staring back at her.)
Robin (breathlessly): Patrick…
Patrick: Just hear me out.
(Robin releases a held breath and just nods emotionally. Patrick raises his hands and gently wipes the tears from her eyes then sighs.)
Patrick: I got my mother's ring a while back. It was before we found out about the baby. It was before we found out about any of this. (looks at her) Do you understand that?
(Robin nods. This was his silent way of telling her that he wasn't asking her to marry him because of the baby.)
Patrick: It was when we came back from Turks & Caicos. We came back and your dad was waiting for us. Remember?
(Robin nods again.)
Patrick: I went for lunch with my father and we got to talking… and the next thing I knew, I was driving to New York to our safe deposit box.
Robin (softly): And you got your mom's ring?
(Patrick nods.)
Robin: And you waited all this time?
Patrick: I had to.
(Patrick lifts Robin's hand and softly kisses it.)
Patrick: I love you, Robin, and the moment I realized that I wanted to spend my entire life with you, I wanted to tell you. (looks at her) But, I had to do this right. I had to do it in a way that you knew it was about you.
(Robin looks down as her free hand runs along her stomach.)
Robin: You didn't think I'd say “yes” if I thought you only wanted to marry me because I'm pregnant with your child?
Patrick: Dr. Independent Scorpio? (smirks) No.
(Robin finally smiles herself then looks back at Patrick. She loved this man so very much. She couldn't even find the words to express how much she loved him.)
Robin (speechless): I don't know what to say.
Patrick: Me neither.
(Patrick runs his hand through his hair.)
Patrick: Every morning while I brushed my teeth, I've been rehearsing in my mind how I would ask you this. I mean, this has to be the most important question I've ever asked in my life, probably ever will ask, and I only get one shot at it… so I know it has to be perfect.
(Robin smiles tearfully watching him. Patrick was really struggling with this. Her Patrick.)
Patrick: And then, at night… at night I would watch you while you were sleeping and I was so sure that I thought of the perfect way to ask you and I would want to write it down, but then that meant leaning over you and probably waking you up, so I would just hope that I'd remember it in the morning and of course, I didn't… because every morning you would wake me up with one of those mind-blowing kisses that make me forget everything. (she emotionally laughs) And the only thing I leave that bedroom knowing is that I want one of those mind-blowing kisses every morning for the rest of my life. (he looks at her) And I have no idea what words I could possibly come up with that could express that to you. The same three just keep popping up in my mind.
Robin (emotionally): Which three?
Patrick: I love you.
(Robin smiles tearfully.)
Patrick: Robin, you are my entire heart. Without even probably realizing it, you've given me a reason to wake up every morning. (simply) You are the very best thing that has ever happened to me. When I've been scared, you've been there; when I've been happy, you've been the reason. You've been everything to me, Robin. (emotionally) And I love you more than I ever thought I possibly could.
(Patrick lowers his hand to her stomach and touches it softly.)
Patrick: And I love our child. I cannot wait to watch you hold him or her for the first time and to know that it is something we created together out of love. (softly) Robin, I want a family with you… and only you. (simply) Please marry me.
(Robin looks down at the ring still in her hands. Her vision begins to blur from her tears as she stares at the beautiful diamond.)
Robin (softly): This ring is so beautiful. (looks at Patrick) Is there a story behind it?
(Patrick smiles slightly as he slowly sits down on the ground in front of Robin and looks up at her.)
Patrick: Okay. (sighs) Well, you talk about me changing after meeting you… wait until you hear about my dad.
(Patrick leans back slowly and nestles between Robin's legs. She smiles as he relaxes with ease and she runs her fingers through his hair.)
Patrick: Did you notice the inscription on the ring?
(Robin looks down at the ring and smiles.)
Robin: When I'm 64… (looks down toward him) The Beatles' song?
Patrick (smiles): I knew my mom would love you.
(Patrick reaches behind him and takes Robin's left hand in his. He looks down at her hand and with a gentle ease slips the ring onto her finger. Robin bites her bottom lip as her eyes watch him. She hadn't said yes yet… but he already knew what her answer was, because he simply knew her.)
Patrick: She was a huge Beatles fan. (smiles) I was supposedly ‘this' close to becoming John Paul Drake.
(Robin kisses Patrick's neck tenderly.)
Robin: John for John Lennon and Paul for Paul McCartney?
(Patrick kisses Robin's hand.)
Patrick: Man, you're so smart.
Robin (laughs): Go on, John Paul.
Patrick: You know, my dad the air guitarist you know him as now, couldn't stand rock music.
Robin (shocked): Really?
Patrick: Could NOT stand rock music – he would only listen to classical.
Robin: Noah Rockin' Drake?
Patrick: Noah Rockin' Drake use to only rock to Amadeus.
Robin (taken back): Wow…
Patrick: Anyway, my mother brainwashed him into loving the Beatles as much as she did and told him she wouldn't marry him until he thoroughly appreciated the Beatles' catalog as much as she did.
(Robin laughs.)
Robin: I guess, I can see where you get your skills of persuasion from.
Patrick: They even honeymooned at the Isle of Wight in London.
Robin: And your father grew an appreciation for Rock and Roll?
Patrick: A deep and abiding love.
(Robin leans down and tenderly kisses Patrick's neck again.)
Robin: So, “when I'm 64…”
Patrick: It was her favorite song.
Robin: It's a beautiful one.
(Robin leans further down and runs her hands down Patrick's chest.)
Robin (sings): Will you still need me; will you still feed me… when I'm sixty-four?
(Patrick laughs then gives in.)
Patrick (sings): Doing the garden, digging the weeds, who could ask for more? Will you still need me; will you still feed me, when I'm sixty four?
Robin (sings): Give me your answer, fill in a form, mine forever more. Will you still need me; will you still feed me, when I'm sixty four?
(Patrick turns fully in her arms and looks at her.)
Patrick: Will you, Robin? (caresses the side of her face) Will you marry me?
Robin (emotionally): You know, I will.
(Patrick reaches toward Robin and slowly lowers her mouth to his and kisses her tenderly. It was a kiss full of passion and love; it was a kiss tied to an everlasting promise and love. Robin is first to pull away and looks down toward Patrick.)
Robin: Thank you for coming to New York City for me.
(Patrick gently touches the side of Robin's face while looking back at her.)
Patrick: Thank you for being nosey and finding the ring… so I was forced to finally give it to you.
(Robin's mouth falls as she laughs.)
Robin: Hey! Your phone was ringing!
Patrick: Suuuure.
Robin (laughing): I am not nosey!
Patrick (laughing): Yes, you are!
Robin: If I was so nosey, wouldn't I have found the ring earlier?
Patrick: I almost thought you did when you moved my stuff into the apartment.
Robin (shocked): Oh my goodness! That's why you freaked out when your dad moved that box!
Patrick: Give the girl a gold star.
(Robin laughs as Patrick looks at his mother's ring on her left hand.)
Patrick: It's a perfect fit.
Robin: You didn't resize it?
Patrick: I didn't think it'd be necessary. (kisses her hand) And I was right.
(Robin looks at her hand in Patrick's and suddenly comes to a realization.)
Robin: Hey… did you ask your dad about the ring? Is he okay with this?
(Patrick nods.)
Patrick: He's very okay with it.
(Patrick gently pulls Robin's hand toward him and studies it.)
Patrick: You know my dad hasn't even seen the ring since my mom died.
Robin: Really?
Patrick: Before they wheeled her into surgery, she asked me to hold her most prized possessions and to remember the promise my father made to her.
(Robin kisses the top of Patrick's head.)
Patrick: So, I held onto them during her entire surgery and kept staring at the inscription… “when I'm 64.” It was supposed to be their promise to one other. They were supposed to take care of each other. (sighs) After her surgery, my father didn't want her rings back… so I held onto them. (emotionally) I don't know. I felt like giving you her ring would be my attempt to keep their promise for them.
(Robin sighs softly and rests her head on top of Patrick's.)
Robin: That is beautiful.
(Patrick raises his eyes and looks up at her somewhat.)
Patrick: We're okay, right?
(Robin just nods emotionally.)
Patrick: And all the stuff Carly said…
Robin: Is ignorance at its worst. (softly) I didn't trap you.
(Patrick reaches behind him and takes Robin's hand in his again.)
Patrick: And me changing?
(Robin leans her head down and tenderly kisses Patrick's neck.)
Robin (smiles): You just grew up, Patrick Drake.
(Patrick laughs.)
Patrick: And don't think I haven't changed you, Dr. Scorpio.
Robin (laughs): I know! I've regressed in age.
(Patrick laughs as he plays with Robin's hands with his own.)
Patrick: See! We balance each other out nicely.
Robin (softly): Hey… do you have to get back to Port Charles?
Patrick: Nope. My dad is officially covering my cases.
Robin (surprised): You just left?
(Patrick turns around fully and looks up at Robin.)
Patrick: Yes, and I would do it again. (touches her face) Not only did you need me, I sort of missed you.
(Robin rolls her eyes slightly.)
Robin: Sort of?
Patrick: Even though you weigh as much as a gnat, I missed feeling you next to me at night.
(Robin laughs tearfully.)
Robin: Oh, that's nice, Patrick! Compare me to a gnat.
Patrick: Hey… you compared me to a farm animal.
(Robin hits Patrick's shoulder.)
Robin: That was eons ago!
Patrick: Well, us farm animals have amazing memories.
Robin: Speaking of amazing memories… do you remember how much I love it when you do this?
(Robin smiles as she leans in toward Patrick and begins to whisper in his ear. His entire face reddens, including his ears, which causes Robin to laugh with glee. Before she can even fully complete her thought, Patrick stands up and pulls Robin with him.)
Robin: What are you doing?
Patrick: You are taking me to your room… now!
Robin (laughs): Oh, Dr. Drake!
(Robin laughs as Patrick takes her hand and begins to pull her out of the garden and toward the elevators of the hotel. She suddenly notices Josh Madden standing next to her with a beautiful nurse on his arm. He smiles toward Robin.)
Josh: So, this is your brilliant neurosurgeon boyfriend, huh?
(Robin smiles as she leans in toward Patrick's arm.)
Robin: No, this is my brilliant neurosurgeon fiancée.
(Patrick smiles as he leans down and kisses the top of Robin's head tenderly. It was in that moment, he knew that everything would work out. His father was healthy, he would be able to keep a promise that his parents weren't able to, Robin would fall more and more in love with him and… well he was just a goner for her, and he knew he would be just as much of a goner for their child. Patrick suddenly feels her fingers lace his and in that moment experienced complete bliss. And he absolutely knew that better days were to come.)
