Chapter 31

Setting: The Nurses’ Station
(Patrick Drake storms up to the Nurses’ Station and forcibly shoves one of his files into the appropriate place. Elizabeth Spencer looks up and awkwardly clears her throat. The hospital rumor mill was going crazy with the news that Robin Scorpio had found out about Jasper Jacks… and even going crazier with the news that it was Jason Morgan who had told her – not Patrick. And unfortunately, Patrick did nothing to calm the rumors by having a rather loud fight with Jason in Robin’s hospital room. Liz clears her throat as she leans in toward Patrick who is staring down at his notes.)

Liz: Hey… I hope I’m not out of line, but you should know that Jason would never do anything to intentionally hurt Robin.
(Patrick slowly raises his eyes and glares at Elizabeth. Without saying one word, he slowly lifts one finger to stop her from speaking.)
Patrick: Do not defend him to me.
(Liz opens her mouth to say something then stops. She thinks for a moment then starts again.)
Liz: For what it’s worth, Patrick, you weren’t the only that didn’t tell her about Jax. None of us did.
(Patrick continues to glare at her.)
Liz: Look… Jason is an honest man, a good man. He believes in the truth – even if it’s sometimes hard to hear.
(Patrick grabs another folder.)
Patrick (sarcastically): Thanks for the pep-talk, Liz. (Bitingly) Remind me to give you one just like it when your marriage is going down in flames.
(Elizabeth's mouth falls as she steps back somewhat offended. Meanwhile, Patrick turns the corner of the hospital corridor and collides directly with Epiphany pushing an empty wheelchair.)
Epiphany: Rushing somewhere, Dr. Drake?
(Patrick falls back on his heels and takes a deep breath. His eyes lower to the empty wheelchair then looks back at Epiphany.)
Patrick: Is Robin finished with her tests?
(Epiphany nods.)
Epiphany: She’s healing as expected. Your father did an amazing job on her surgery.
(Patrick places his hands on his hips then stares down at his feet.)
Patrick: Everything was normal?
Epiphany: Not her blood pressure.
(Patrick slowly raises his head and looks back at Epiphany.)
Epiphany: I can see what you’re thinking and I don’t think it’s a good idea.
(Patrick nervously runs his finger along his bottom lip.)
Patrick: And what am I thinking?
Epiphany: You want to run because you are flipping out. You’ve never cared what someone else thinks about you and now that you do, you are terrified because you think Robin has changed her mind about you in one swift instant. (He starts to protest) And if you’re not thinking of running at this very moment, you’re thinking of giving her some space to cool off hoping that she’d go back to her original opinion of you… which I should warn you wasn’t much better.
(Patrick looks away.)
Epiphany: Just hear me out before you do anything stupid.
(Patrick looks back at her.)
Patrick: I’m not stupid.
Epiphany: I didn’t say you were stupid. I’m saying that you do stupid things. There’s a difference. (Takes a deep breath) Listen, I’ve just spent a good amount of time with Robin and she is hurting. She feels like everyone she counted on has lied to her, but… she is a doctor herself and she knows deep down why you kept the news about Jax from her. But, “deep down” is not what she’s feeling right now. (Simply) Patrick, you have to go to her. And know that she will yell at you. (Sighs) But, also know that she is not angry at you – she is angry at the situation. She is healing, but she is still in pain. Her ribs are sorer than she lets on and her lungs are still much rawer than she’ll ever admit to. (Looks at him) Now, I know you’re in your own sort of pain right now and anger, but just try to remember why you kept the truth from Robin. You wanted to protect her at all costs. Just remember that and you’ll be fine. You’ll both be fine.
(Patrick nods and releases a soft breath. He wipes his face then looks back at her.)
Patrick: Where is she?
Epiphany: She wanted to go to the roof. I told her I’d pick her up in thirty minutes. (Smiles) You missed out on the sponge bath. I’m going to take some mercy on you and give you this one.
(Patrick smirks slightly then watches as Epiphany walks away and heads back toward the Nurses’ Station. He takes a deep breath then heads toward the hospital staircase.)

Setting: The General Hospital Roof
(It’s a beautiful summer afternoon. Robin Scorpio takes a deep breath as she rests both of her hands on the ledge of the roof while hanging her head. She slowly closes her eyes. There was so much noise in her head right now that she couldn’t think clearly. After her round of testing was done, she had asked Epiphany if she could just spend a few minutes alone away from her room, away from Jason, away from her family… even away from Patrick. She just needed to be alone with her thoughts. When Robin opened up the door to the roof, she immediately froze at the sight of Georgie Jones setting up a picnic. A startled Georgie apologized thinking she was late and once she saw the look of confusion wash over Robin’s face, she explained how Patrick had planned this picnic for them last night. Robin didn’t even know what to say to Georgie. She couldn't even open her mouth to formulate words. She simply stared at her younger cousin willing some sort of response to escape her lips. Georgie, thankfully, noticed Robin’s awkwardness and simply told her to have a seat since she was almost done. And that’s what Robin did. She sat in silence staring off at the Port Charles skyline as Georgie quickly finished unwrapping their sandwiches and salads. Robin didn’t even speak a word to Georgie again until it was time for her to leave. She had hugged her cousin tightly and then thanked her genuinely for setting this up for her and Patrick. She didn’t have the heart to tell her cousin that she and Patrick weren’t even talking – much less eating together. And now Robin was standing against the ledge of the roof wondering how she had gotten to this place. She looks up slowly when she hears the door to the roof opening. Patrick takes a deep breath then steps forward. He freezes as well when he sees the setup picnic waiting for him. Robin can hear the hesitation in his footsteps and smiles slightly as she turns around to look at him with her arms crossed. Patrick takes a deep breath when he sees Robin’s tearstained face staring back at him. She gestures toward the picnic.)

Robin (emotionally): Nice gesture.
(Patrick closes the door behind him and locks it. He wasn’t taking any chances. Truth-teller Morgan could still be somewhere lurking in the hospital waiting to reveal more truths to Robin. Patrick rolls his eyes slightly. Jason would probably just shoot the door open, anyway. He continues to move toward Robin until he is directly in front of her. Robin watches him curiously as he opens up his arms.)
Patrick: Get it all out.
(Robin wipes her fallen tears from her cheeks as she stares back at Patrick.)
Robin: What?
Patrick: Let me have it. Tell me all the ways I failed you.
(Robin closes her eyes and shakes her head.)
Robin: That’s not what this is about, Patrick!
(Patrick lowers his arms as Robin storms past him. He turns around and watches as she sits down on the blanket Georgie placed in the middle of the roof for them.)
Robin: It’s not about you failing me!
(Patrick places his hands firmly on hips staring down at Robin.)
Patrick: Well, that’s what it felt like back there when you were with Jason.
Robin: Do you think that was planned, Patrick? I had no idea you would be there. Actually, I was asking Jason to find you because I was convinced you knew nothing about Jax.
(Patrick closes his eyes.)
Robin: I thought there was no way you could’ve kept that from me. My Uncle Mac – he would’ve, my mom, my dad… they both would have. But, not you.
(Patrick looks back at Robin.)
Patrick: And why not? Because they all love you?
(Robin shakes her head and looks down at the blanket underneath her.)
Robin: Because you’ve never treated me like some frail piece of china. You were different, Patrick. You’ve never treated me like I was sick.
Patrick: Well, that’s because you never were… until the car accident.
(Robin raises her eyes and looks up at Patrick.)
Patrick: So, yes! I treated you like you were sick – and yes, I treated you like you were a frail piece of china… because you were. You were broken, Robin. My father drilled a hole in your head! (She looks away) Do you even understand that?
(Patrick kneels down in front of Robin and gently shifts her face back toward him.)
Patrick: Your heart had stopped from the hypothermia.
(Robin lowers her eyes from Patrick’s.)
Patrick: I will apologize for Jason being the one to tell you about Jax, but I refuse to apologize for wanting to ensure that nothing hindered your recovery.
(Patrick watches Robin lock her jaw.)
Patrick: Robin, I had every intention of telling you about Jax – every intention. His condition, his treatment was being as closely monitored as possible. I was not going to let him die.
(Robin finally turns her attention back to Patrick.)
Robin: You can’t control that, Patrick.
(Patrick looks down between them.)
Patrick: I kept him alive. (Looks at her) And I will continue to do so.
(Patrick reaches toward Robin and gently caresses her face.)
Patrick: I wasn’t going to let you lose him, but I wasn’t going to lose you either. I'm not that selfless, Robin. I am a doctor – and everything I knew about medicine told me to wait to tell you. (He looks down) But, even more than that… I’m a man – and everything I knew about almost losing you and how much I love you…
(Patrick can hear Robin’s breath hitch slightly and he raises his eyes to look at her.)
Patrick: Told me that I couldn’t go through that again. (Clears his throat) I just didn’t do it for you, Robin – I did it for me.
(Robin releases a soft breath as she lowers her eyes.)
Robin: My heart… it stopped?
(Patrick takes a deep breath then sits down next to Robin on the blanket.)
Patrick: On the table. (Looks at her) Your body went into shock more than once because of the hypothermia.
Robin: Ventricular fibrillation.
(Patrick simply nods while looking down at his hands. There was a quiet silence surrounding them for several moments until Robin turns toward Patrick and looks at him.)
Robin (softly): I never wanted it to be this way.
(Patrick finally turns his head and looks at Robin as well.)
Patrick (softly): What?
(Robin lowers her eyes.)
Robin: I wanted you to experience love from a place of happiness (wipes her eyes) not sorrow or pain… and certainly not death.
(Patrick releases a soft breath.)
Patrick: Robin, you think I fell in love with you when you almost died on the operating table? Or when your car took a nose dive into the Port Charles River?
(Patrick reaches toward Robin and raises her face to look at her.)
Patrick: My love for you comes out of a very happy place. It’s from the first time you walked into my O.R. and demanded I save the life of a complete stranger. It’s from the first time you refused to go out with me.
(Robin laughs emotionally.)
Patrick: It’s from the very first time you kissed me. (She looks at him) It’s from when I woke up in a hospital bed with your hand on my…
(Robin’s eyes widen as she flies toward Patrick and covers his mouth laughing. He slowly lowers her hand from his mouth and looks back at her.)
Patrick: What I am trying to tell you is that my love for you isn’t a new thing. It didn’t just happen, Robin.
(Robin releases another soft breath as she looks down at her hands.)
Robin: I’m sorry. (Looks at him) I’m sorry that I yelled at you when I found out about Jax and that I thought for even a moment that you didn’t have my best interests at heart.
(Robin reaches for Patrick’s hand and gently takes it in hers.)
Robin: Because I know your heart. I know your heart as well as I know my own. (Smiles emotionally) It’s the heart I fell in love with… it’s the heart that got me out of that river.
(Robin slowly reaches toward Patrick and caresses the back of his neck as she looks directly at him.)
Robin: Jason pulled me out of that river, but it was you that kept me alive. (He looks down) You’re the one that saved me, Patrick. (Emotionally) You saved my heart.
(Patrick slowly raises his eyes and looks back at Robin as he releases a soft breath.)
Patrick: You’re killing me, Robin.
(Robin laughs emotionally as she moves closer toward Patrick until she’s only a few mere inches from him then softly kisses his nose.)
Robin: You do realize that we haven’t really been alone since before I went to Greece?
(Patrick laughs.)
Patrick: Oh, I am not one to count or anything.
(Robin bites her lip nervously as she slowly moves in toward Patrick.)
Robin: I know that I’m not ready for any real strenuous activities, but I was thinking that our professions of love could at least garner a major make out session or something.
(Patrick bursts out laughing as Robin begins to nuzzle his neck.)
Robin: Because I don’t know if you remember, but I am really good at making out.
Patrick: Oh, I remember.
Robin: And my hands… they are amazing. (She lifts her head) Some even say almost as good as a surgeon.
(Patrick pulls away and looks at Robin abruptly.)
Patrick: Now, that’s where I might have to disagree. No hands are better than mine.
(Robin arches her eyebrow as she looks back at Patrick.)
Robin: Prove it, Dr. Hottie.
(Patrick’s entire face lights up as he leans in toward Robin and she falls back onto the blanket underneath them laughing loudly taking him with her. After their laughter finally subsides, Robin looks up at Patrick as he attempts to rest all of his weight on his arms, not putting any on her.)
Robin: Patrick, I want to be on Jax’s case.
(Patrick nods.)
Patrick: I figured as much.
(Robin takes a deep breath then reaches up and touches Patrick’s face gently.)
Robin: I need you to know something. No matter how angry I was with you earlier or how disappointed I was that you didn’t tell me about Jax, I never stopped loving you… not even for a second. My love for you is a constant, Patrick. There is nothing that anyone can tell me that will change that.
(Patrick smirks as he nervously licks his lips.)
Patrick: Uh… can I have that in writing? (Kisses her neck) Or maybe you could tattoo it somewhere unmentionable, like perhaps your…
(Robin makes a face then pushes Patrick down onto his back. She watches him as he laughs loudly at his own joke and shakes her head. Was she seriously in love with this man? Seriously?)

Chapter 32

- A Week or So Later
Setting: Robin’s Bedroom at her Apartment
(It’s a beautiful late summer morning. The bright August sun dances lightly across Robin Scorpio’s face as she sleeps soundly in her own bed after her first night at home from the hospital. Patrick Drake watches as a small smile forms across her face and can’t help it, but smiles himself. He hardly got any sleep the previous night… yet wasn’t tired in the least. And that alone was extremely ironic to Patrick. He had never spent the night in a woman’s bed (without having sex) and spent most of it watching her sleep, but last night that was all he could do… and all he wanted to do. As her smile slowly widens, Patrick, still lying on his side, reaches over carefully and gently pushes a strand of her hair away from her eyes. He knew that she was waking up and sure enough, her eyes slowly open as her smile widens. Patrick falls onto his back and smiles widely as he places his hands behind his head.)

Patrick: I think I kind of like your bed.
(Robin smiles as she slowly turns onto her side. Last night was a big night for them, even if neither said anything… Patrick Drake finally made it into Robin Scorpio’s bed.)
Robin (smiles): Really?
(Patrick smiles widely as he stares up at her ceiling with his hands firmly resting behind his head. Robin watches him smiling as she aimlessly runs her fingers along his bare chest.)
Patrick: Yeah, it’s comfy. I mean, it’s much better than your couch… (Looks at her) and a million times better than my bed at the Metro Court.
(Robin laughs as she falls back onto her bed.)
Robin (lightly): Well, then I’ll be sure to let Carly know where I purchased my bedroom set.
(Patrick slowly sits up.)
Patrick (lightly): Just make sure you send that information to her at Roselawn.
(Robin shoots up in her bed and looks back at Patrick.)
Robin (surprised): Roselawn? Carly is back in Roselawn? What happened? (Thinks) Wait! The night of my accident, Jax told me that Carly was setting it up so it looked like you and Liz were having an affair.
(Patrick releases a soft breath.)
Patrick: Well, after your accident, my father called Roselawn. He suggested that Carly be reevaluated and Lainey agreed.
(Patrick looks down at his hands.)
Patrick: And she’s been there ever since.
(Robin takes a deep breath then releases it.)
Robin: Wow. I don’t know what to say. (Looks at him) And Sonny and Jason are okay with this?
(Patrick slowly raises his head and looks back at Robin with somewhat darkened eyes.)
Patrick: You’re concerned about how Jason feels about this?
(Robin sighs then reaches for Patrick’s hand and takes it in hers.)
Robin: Actually, no… I was more concerned that Jason and Sonny were going after your father for sending Carly away.
(Patrick’s face softens as he reaches toward Robin with his free hand and pushes a strand of her hair behind her ear.)
Patrick: Well, as the president of the Noah Drake Fan Club, you can rest assured that he is absolutely fine. (Pauses) In fact, Jason and Sonny turned their backs on Carly as well after your accident.
(Robin shakes her head.)
Robin: You know, as much as I hate Carly and detest what she did… she didn’t cause my accident.
(Patrick’s eyes widen in anger.)
Patrick: Robin, come on!
(Robin holds up her hand.)
Robin: Just hear me out. Yes, what she did was atrocious, but she didn’t cause the weather conditions. Patrick, the roads were wet and Jax lost control.
Patrick (agitated): And why did Jax lose control? Because of what she did!
Robin: Patrick, I am not defending Carly at all, but she shouldn’t be sent away because Jax drove my car off of a bridge.
Patrick: Well, then she can rot in hell for trying to ruin innocent lives! Robin, the woman is a menace to society! And I will tell that to anyone who will listen to me and I will do everything in my power as a doctor to make sure she never gets out of that medical facility.
(Robin stares back at Patrick and then suddenly comes to a realization. She covers her mouth as she looks back at him.)
Robin: Patrick, you recommended that she be sent away as well – didn’t you?
(Without any words, Patrick leaps off of Robin’s bed and runs his hands through his hair.)
Patrick: I’m going to get your morning meds.
(Robin takes a deep breath then leaps off of her bed and follows Patrick toward her bathroom.)
Robin: Patrick… wait.
(Patrick spins around and looks at Robin.)
Patrick: Robin, what she did was wrong! (Takes a deep breath) What she did… she wanted you to lose whatever faith you had in me! She wanted you to think I was sleeping with a married woman!
(Robin reaches toward Patrick as he continues toward her bathroom.)
Robin: Patrick…
Patrick: You, of all people, Robin… don’t ever defend her to me! Ever!
(Robin takes a deep breath and watches Patrick as he forcibly opens Robin’s medicine cabinet. It was blatantly obvious that he was looking for someone to blame for her accident.)
Patrick: Robin, she might as well have driven you and Jax into that river.
(Robin nods and looks down at her feet.)
Robin: And Lainey agrees with you?
(Patrick slams shut Robin’s medicine cabinet and spins around looking at her.)
Patrick: I don’t understand this. Are you questioning my judgment? My father’s? Jason’s? Sonny’s? (Passionately) You almost died, Robin! And Jax is still in a coma fighting for his life. Don’t tell me that demented witch doesn’t belong in a mental institution.
(Robin slowly moves toward Patrick.)
Robin: Patrick…
Patrick: Oh, and yes! Lainey does agree with us.
(Robin simply nods as Patrick hands her a glass of water to drink with her morning pills. There is a quiet silence between them as she takes the glass from him. Patrick without any words simply sits down on the edge of her bath tub and lowers his head to his hands as she takes each of her pills. When she’s done, she quietly lowers her glass next to the sink then kneels down in front of Patrick.)
Robin: I’m sorry if you thought I was questioning your judgment.
(Patrick slowly raises his head then reaches for her hands.)
Patrick: Do you know why I never wanted to be in a relationship?
(Robin looks down at their joined hands.)
Patrick: I never wanted to belong to someone. (Looks at her) And I know, in my head… that you don’t belong to me – people aren’t objects that you can just carry around and keep. (Softly) But, in my heart… my heart tells me all the time that you are mine.
(Robin raises her eyes and looks back at Patrick. Her eyes soften as he reaches toward her and runs his thumb across her cheek.)
Patrick: You are mine and I want to protect you. I’m sorry if I get irrational. I’m sorry if I become unruly, but I don’t care. You are mine and I don’t want anyone hurting what belongs to me.
(Robin nervously bites her bottom lip as she lowers her eyes. Patrick watches as a small smile forms on her lips then her eyes rise to meet his.)
Robin: I am about to send the women’s movement back several years, but…
(Robin moves closer to Patrick and wraps her arms around his neck as he pulls her toward him.)
Robin: I don’t care.
(Robin leans in and tenderly kisses Patrick’s chin.)
Robin: I just loved hearing you say that.
(Patrick laughs awkwardly.)
Patrick: Really?
(Robin leans in again and tenderly kisses Patrick then moves her lips toward his ear.)
Robin: Say it again.
(Patrick pulls away slightly and looks at her.)
Patrick (laughs): Really?
(Robin nods as she leans in and tenderly kisses Patrick’s neck.)
Robin: I need to hear it.
(Patrick pulls back and looks directly at Robin while gently reaching toward her and holding her face in his hands.)
Patrick (simply): You’re mine.
(Robin laughs as she pulls Patrick gently down on top of her onto the floor of her bathroom.)
Robin: And I am completely healed.
(Patrick laughs as he pulls away and looks down at her.)
Patrick: Are you for real?
Robin: Patrick, we haven’t done this since before I went to Greece. (Softly) I am SO for real, right now.

Setting: Jax’s Hospital Room
(Noah Drake is standing over Jasper Jacks’ hospital bed looking down at his chart. He looks up when he hears the door to his room open and sighs softly when he sees Alexis Davis. She had been by Jax’s bedside for the last few days. She steps forward nervously.)

Alexis: Any improvement?
Noah (sighs): Unfortunately… no.
(Alexis nods then walks closer toward Jax’s bed. Noah can tell that she is obviously thinking. The one thing he had learned about Alexis Davis was that she was a thinker. Her thoughts were sometimes all over the place, but she was definitely a brilliant woman. Noah watches her as she spins toward him suddenly.)
Alexis: Is Robin around?
Noah: No, she’s home.
Alexis: Is there any chance she can come in?
Noah: Well, I was kind of hoping she could rest for a few days. Why?
Alexis: I was reading an article she wrote…
(Noah looks up from Jax’s chart and smirks.)
Noah: You were reading a medical journal?
(Alexis self-consciously fixes her eyeglasses.)
Alexis: I read law journals all the time… medical ones aren’t that different.
Noah: If you say so.
Alexis: Any way, Robin wrote an article about her latest treatments for head trauma. Do you think that Jax could benefit from them?
Noah: Honestly? Yes. My son and I have discussed alternative treatments for Jax if he didn’t regain consciousness, Robin’s drug therapy was on the top of the list.
Alexis: Then, don’t you think he should start it?
Noah: I was just hoping it wouldn't have to come to that.
(Alexis turns around and looks at Jax in his hospital bed.)
Alexis: I’m afraid it has. (Sighs) I know that the drug therapy isn’t easy. I know that it’s a long battle, but…
(Alexis turns around and looks back at Noah.)
Alexis: I trusted Robin with my life once as well as the life of my daughter. I trust her with Jax’s.

Setting: Robin’s Bathroom
(Robin and Patrick are lying on the floor of her bathroom staring at the ceiling. The only sounds that could be heard are the random drippings of her leaky faucet and their own labored breaths. Patrick rests his forearm on his forehead as he attempts to regulate his heart rate. After a few more moments, Robin slowly turns her head and looks at Patrick. She pushes back her hair and takes another deep breath.)

Robin: I’ve never…
(Patrick holds up his finger to stop her from speaking.)
Patrick: No words.
(Robin laughs slightly as she scoots closer to Patrick and easily fits into his arms. She turns her head slightly and kisses his chest.)
Robin: On the bathroom floor… geesh!
Patrick (lightly): Still avoiding that bed, huh, Dr. Scorpio?
(Robin raises her head to look back at Patrick then hits him lightly.)
Robin: You know that isn’t true.
Patrick: Prove it.
Robin (smiling): What do you have in mind?
(Patrick reaches toward Robin and slowly brings her lips down to his and kisses her tenderly. She moans softly as he deepens the kiss then slowly pulls away sitting up.)
Robin: I like the way you think, Dr. Drake.
(And just as Robin lowers her head to kiss Patrick again, the sound of Noah’s voice fills her entire living room causing her to pull away.)
Noah: Robin, it’s Noah. I just met with Jax’s family. They’re ready to start your drug therapy.
(Robin takes a deep breath as she leans back on the wall of her bathroom. There's another quiet silence between them. Patrick watches her as he slowly sits up.)
Robin: Do you think it'll work?
(Patrick reaches toward Robin and takes her hand in his.)
Patrick: There's only one way to find out...
(Patrick stands up and extends his hand toward her.)
Patrick: During the epidemic, you told me the greatest rewards sometimes came from the greatest risks. Let's go put it all on the line.
