Chapter 15
- The Next Day
Setting: Kelly’s Diner
(It’s the middle of the day. Robin is having lunch with Anna and Mac. She smiles as she lowers her sandwich.)
Anna: So, David left this morning.
Robin: Did you thank him again for me?
Anna: Yes, and inflated his ego just a little bit more.
Mac (dryly): Like he needed that.
Robin: David Hayward is a remarkable doctor.
Anna: Who happens to think he is God from time to time.
Robin: Well, as harsh as it may sound – every good doctor has a little bit of a God complex. You have to. You have to think that you have the power to save someone’s live.
Anna: Like Dr. Drake?
Robin (nods): Like Dr. Drake. Like Dr. Quartermaine. Like Dr. Jones.
Mac: Like yourself?
Robin: Like even myself… at times.
(Anna looks at her daughter and smiles.)
Anna: You look so good. You must be feeling much better.
Robin: I am! I feel like a completely new person.
Mac: Well, I hate to eat and run, but I have to head to work.
(Mac stands up and kisses the top of Robin’s head as Anna stands up as well.)
Anna: And I have to meet Felicia to go shopping.
Robin: Give her my love.
Anna: You can join.
Robin: I actually have to get ready.
Anna: Get ready? For what?
Robin (smiles): I have a date tonight.
Mac: A date?
Anna: Tonight?
Mac: May I ask with who?
Robin (smirks): Good bye, Uncle Mac. (Looks at him) And be careful.
Mac: Always. (Pauses) And have fun with Dr. Drake… but not too much fun.
(Robin laughs as Mac leaves. She looks back at her mother.)
Robin: Have fun with Felicia.
Anna: I will. (Smiles) Wear something amazing.
Robin: Okay… I’ll try. Now go!
(Anna leaves the diner as Robin sits at the table and stares straight ahead. She’s sitting there for a few moments simply daydreaming then looks up suddenly when Jason walks through the entrance of Kelly’s. He spots her immediately. Jason freezes then looks around. He slowly walks toward Robin’s table and looks down at her.)
Jason: Hey.
Robin: Hi.
Jason (awkwardly): How… how are you feeling?
Robin: Better. Much better.
Jason: I… I came by the hospital to see you.
Robin (smiles): I heard. I’m sorry about that.
Jason: Your mom has a good right hook.
(Robin laughs as she looks down.)
Robin: Yes, she does.
Jason: She’s very protective of you.
(Robin looks back up at Jason.)
Robin: She’s my mom.
(Jason just nods. He looks down at his feet just as Patrick starts to descend from the staircase at Kelly’s. He stops at the sight of Jason talking to Robin and decides to keep his presence unknown. Jason looks back toward Robin.)
Jason (simply): I was scared for you.
Robin: Then, we’re even. I was scared for you when I thought you were going to die.
Jason (quietly): Yeah.
(Robin sighs then looks back at Jason.)
Robin: Jason… I know my mom and my uncle were probably a little rough on you. I’m sorry. (Pauses) But… you don’t have to worry about me, ever. I’m okay. And… I have a lot of people around me that will make sure that I continue to be.
Jason (disapprovingly): Like Dr. Drake?
(An offended Robin looks back at Jason.)
Robin: I know that tone, Jason.
(Robin abruptly stands up as Patrick starts to reveal himself then stops.)
Robin: I don’t have time for this.
(Robin starts to walk away, but Jason gently grabs her arm. She looks at his hand then back up toward him.)
Jason: He’s a jerk, Robin.
Robin: A jerk that saved your life.
Jason: A jerk that has probably never been faithful to anyone.
(Robin snatches her arm from Jason’s grasp as Patrick listens intently.)
Robin: You don’t have the right to ever question anyone’s fidelity.
Jason: He’s gone out with every single woman in Port Charles.
Robin (upset): Why do you care so much?
Jason: Because you care! (Simply) Robin, I know you. I saw the way you watched him while I was at GH. I saw the way you spoke about him. While he went around thinking you weren’t paying him any mind, he was all you thought about – and I saw that!
Robin: Good! I’m glad you saw that. (Clearly) I do care about Patrick and I will continue to care about him. (Looks at him) And you know what? I trust Patrick.
Jason: Robin…
Robin: Jason, I am happy for the first time in a long time and I am not going to let you or anyone else take that from me.
Jason: Even if he hurts you?
Robin: More than you did? (Simply) Keep your opinions about Patrick to yourself. You have no right to judge him, Jason; no right at all.
(And with that, Robin storms past Jason and walks directly out of Kelly’s Diner. He starts to turn around to follow her, but Patrick grabs his arm and looks directly at him.)
Patrick (threateningly): Stay away from her!
(Patrick runs out of Kelly’s and toward the docks. He finds Robin staring out at the water. She didn’t even have her jacket on. He quickly begins to shrug off his jacket then puts it over her shoulders.)
Patrick: You don’t have to defend me.
(Robin looks up at Patrick.)
Robin: How much of that did you hear?
Patrick: All of it.
(Robin looks down and shakes her head.)
Robin: I wish you hadn’t.
Patrick: Why?
(Robin looks back at Patrick.)
Robin: Because…
Patrick: I’m glad I heard it. (Simply) No one’s ever defended me like that.
Robin: I shouldn’t have to defend you. What Jason said… he has no right. He doesn’t know you. (Shakes her head) I’m not sure he even knows me. (Looks at him) Patrick, I want you to know… I believed everything I said to Jason. I trust you.
Patrick: I know. (Smiles) Now, come here…
(Patrick pulls Robin toward him by pulling the collar of his coat, that she’s wearing, toward him.)
Patrick: You know… it turned me on watching you get all hot and bothered defending me.
(Robin rolls her eyes as Patrick lowers his mouth toward hers. He lingers his lips barely touching hers.)
Patrick: I like seeing that type of passion, Dr. Scorpio.
Robin: Just kiss me already, will you?
(Patrick smiles as he lowers his mouth to hers and kisses her. He raises his hands to hold her face in them as he deepens the kiss. Robin moans slightly and Patrick has to smile. He slowly pulls away and looks down at her.)
Patrick: So, did you decide where you want to go tonight for our date?
Robin: I want you to choose.
Patrick: Me?
Robin: I defended your honor; how much can a girl do in a given day?
(Robin kisses Patrick quickly then gives him back his coat.)
Robin: Try not to be late… that’s a real turn-off.
(Patrick watches Robin disappear back toward Kelly’s and shakes his head. He definitely never met anyone like her before.)
- Hours Later
Setting: Robin’s Room at Kelly’s
(Robin steps out of her bathroom. She’s wearing a simple fitted black A-line dress with small caplet sleeves. She looked absolutely beautiful. She checks her hair one last time then looks up when there’s a slight knocking on her door. Robin opens her door smiling at the sight of Patrick. He was actually holding flowers. Robin smiles widely at the sight of gardenias. Patrick notices her wide smile.)
Patrick: Don’t look so surprised.
Robin (smiling): I’m not.
(Patrick extends his hand holding the flowers and Robin takes in the sweet scent. He looked so breathtakingly handsome in that moment, wearing a simple dark grey button down shirt with black pants. She takes the flowers from him and closes her eyes as she inhales the amazing scent. Patrick just stares at her then swallows hard; he couldn’t believe how beautiful she looked tonight.)
Robin: Thank you.
Patrick: Am I too early?
Robin: Not at all. I’m ready. Let me just put these in water and grab my jacket.
(Patrick watches Robin run over to her kitchen sink, grab a vase, fill it with water quickly then arranges the flowers perfectly in less than 30 seconds. He was convinced that she was too good for him, but for once really didn’t care… because she was his. He watches Robin look at the arrangement, smile then grab her jacket. She turns toward him smiling then turns off her lights.)
Robin: So, where are you taking me?
Patrick (leans in toward her): To new heights.
Robin: Oh boy…
(Robin throws her coat on then closes her door behind them. Patrick watches her as they walk down the stairs of Kelly’s then they quietly leave the diner and head down toward the docks together. Robin looks up at Patrick as they walk further down the docks.)
Robin: Come on… can you give me a hint?
Patrick: I did!
Robin: That “new heights” comment was a hint?
Patrick: What did you think I was referring to, Dr. Scorpio?
(Robin laughs embarrassed.)
Robin: I don’t know!
Patrick: Okay, I’ll tell you… you know the modern art museum off Main?
Robin: Of course!
Patrick: Well, they just opened an amazing restaurant on the top floor that overlooks all of Port Charles.
Robin: Sounds amazing. (Looks at him) So, how would you know about this “amazing” restaurant? Have you taken all the girls there?
Patrick (laughs): Not quite.
Robin: Come on! ‘Fess up! How do you know about it?
Patrick (sighs): Okay… fine, when I was trying to get you to notice me, I started researching various places I could take you, if by some miracle you actually went out on a date with me.
Robin: Really?
Patrick: See, my whole way of thinking was… all I needed was one shot. And in that one shot, I would take you somewhere so amazing, so full of life and culture that you’d fall in love with me before the appetizers and kick yourself the rest of the night for not doing this sooner.
Robin: Wow! You had it all planned out.
Patrick: It was a great plan.
Robin: And what happened?
Patrick: You wanted me so bad you couldn’t contain yourself and I didn’t even need an amazing restaurant.
(Robin’s mouth falls and she starts laughing. She playfully hits him as they walk further down the docks.)
Robin: You wish!
Patrick: You did! You wanted me SO bad!
Robin: In your dreams! Patrick, YOU wanted me!
Patrick (laughs): See, I’ve yet to deny that.
(Robin stops and turns toward Patrick. She looks at him.)
Robin: So, let me get this straight – for your whole plan to have worked, I’d have to want you so badly before the appetizers that I couldn’t contain myself?
Patrick (smirks): More or less.
(Robin nods then starts walking again.)
Robin: Such lofty dreams.
(Patrick laughs then grabs Robin’s arm and she turns toward him smiling.)
Patrick: Come on! Just humor me… (Smirks) Admit you wanted me.
Robin: Fine, yes! I, Robin Scorpio, wanted you, Patrick Drake. Happy?
Patrick (smiling): Very.
Robin (flustered): Good! (Pauses) Now, can we please go! I’m starving!
Chapter 16
Setting: City Lights Restaurant (at the Museum of Modern Art)
(It’s later in the evening. Robin and Patrick just finished an amazing meal. It had been an incredible evening. Robin couldn’t remember the last time she had eaten such a great meal. The herb roasted chicken basically melted in her mouth and she didn’t know if the company she was with made the food taste that much better. Patrick continued throughout the whole evening to look at her in a way that made her feel like she was the only person in the entire room, practically the entire world. And he couldn’t help himself. Robin looked simply beautiful tonight. She listened to him intently and held onto every single one of his words. She laughed at the right jokes… even the sarcastic ones. Her eyes shined with happiness and he couldn’t help but not look at her. As the waiter refills their cups of coffee, Robin turns her head and looks out at the Port Charles skyline. Once the waiter leaves, Patrick reaches toward Robin’s hand and she looks back at him.)
Patrick: Great view, huh?
Robin: It’s funny. I lived in Port Charles for practically my whole life and it always amazes me when I see it differently.
Patrick: What’s different about it tonight?
(Robin sighs slightly and looks down at their joined hands.)
Robin: It has potential. (Looks back at him) In the past, whenever I’ve ever seen Port Charles from this high up, it was when I was leaving.
Patrick: How many times have you left?
Robin: For good? Twice.
Patrick: And both times to Paris?
(Robin nods.)
Patrick: Do you miss it?
Robin (smiles): Right now? No.
Patrick (smirks): How about in general?
Robin: Not really. I thought I would… at least, a little. But coming back to Port Charles and staying here seemed natural; it seemed like the right thing to do. How about you? Do you miss your old hospital?
(Patrick just shakes his head.)
Patrick (quietly): No.
(There’s a quiet silence. A nice silence. Both of them are in their own thoughts. Finally Robin looks up at Patrick and smiles.)
Robin: So, can I have that dance?
Patrick: I don’t dance.
(Robin stands up and walks over to him.)
Robin: I find that very surprising.
Patrick (looking up at her): And why would you say that?
Robin: You missing the chance to hold somebody close to you? To feel their body so close to yours? (Smirking) You know, some say dancing is the ultimate type of foreplay.
(Patrick stands up laughing.)
Patrick: That was good.
Robin: Did it work?
Patrick: Maybe.
(Patrick leads Robin toward the small dance floor. She looks back up at him as he slowly pulls her toward him.)
You Make Me Feel Brand New
Performed By: The Stylistics
My love, I'll never find the words, my love
To tell you how I feel, my love
Mere words, could not explain
Precious love, you held my life within your hands
Created everything I am
Taught me how to live again
Robin: Do you know this is one of my dad’s all-time favorite songs?
Patrick (smiles): He had good taste.
(Robin smiles, as Patrick kisses the top of her head then she leans toward him resting her head on his chest.)
Only you came when I needed a friend
Believed in me through thick and thin
This song is for you
Filled with gratitude and love
(Robin and Patrick continue to slowly sway to the music as she closes her eyes contently, just listening to the beating of his heart.)
God bless you
You make me feel brand new
For God blessed me with you
You make me feel brand new
I sing this song 'cause you
Make me feel brand new
(Patrick lowers his head and softly inhales the scent of Robin. He had to find out what shampoo she used. It smelled so amazing. And what shower gel she used – her arms were so incredibly soft. In that moment, he thought “maybe dancing wasn’t that bad after all.”)
My love, whenever I was insecure
You built me up and made me sure
You gave, my pride, back to me
(Robin closes her eyes and smiles as she snuggles closer to Patrick and holds him just a little bit tighter. He hears her sigh contently and smiles himself. They were the perfect fit.)
Precious friend, with you I'll always have a friend
You're someone who I can depend
To walk a path that sometimes bends
Without you, life has no meaning or rhyme
Like notes to a song out of time
How can I repay
You for having faith in me
(Robin slowly pulls away and looks up at Patrick and he raises his hands and pushes back her hair.)
Robin: This isn’t that bad, is it?
(Patrick simply responds by lowering his mouth and kissing her tenderly. Robin exhales a held breath. She could get so use to this.)
God bless you
You made me feel brand new
For God bless me with you
You made me feel brand new
I sing this song for you
(As the song ends, Patrick pulls away slightly from Robin and looks down at her.)
Patrick: See, my master plan would’ve worked.
Robin: Are you still referring to your one-shot plan about me wanting you after one dinner? (Simply) Patrick, this night was perfect… but this stuff doesn’t impress me. I mean, yeah I love the flowers, the great meal, the dancing… everything. But what impresses me, what really gets me, is when you show me who you are really are. No pretenses.
(Patrick just nods.)
Patrick: I’m trying.
Robin: I know.
(Robin stands on her tiptoes and kisses Patrick tenderly.)
Robin: And that’s why I want you.
(Robin steps back slightly from Patrick and looks up at him as she holds his hands.)
Robin: Want to take me home, Dr. Drake?
(Patrick gently kisses Robin’s hand then looks up at her.)
Patrick: Let’s go.
Setting: Kelly’s Diner
(The diner is closed for the evening. Robin and Patrick open up the door then lock it behind them. The docks were quiet and eerily dark tonight as they walked back home in silence. They would share a seldom comment about the food or the night itself, but for the most part they walked in silence. Patrick walks up the stairs leading to the second floor and Robin quietly follows him. He can hear her behind him. He knew that she was so close to him and it drove him absolutely crazy. They finally approach her room and they stop. Robin looks up at Patrick smiling.)
Robin: Thank you for an amazing evening.
Patrick: So, this is it?
(Robin smiles.)
Robin: Well… usually a date ends when the gentleman walks the lady to her door.
Patrick (smirks): And who said I was a gentleman?
Robin: Please don’t ruin my delusions of you. I’d like to keep them just a while longer.
(Patrick smirks as he leans in toward Robin.)
Patrick: How much longer?
Robin: Don’t you have work tomorrow?
Patrick: I can do my job in my sleep.
(Robin laughs as she hits Patrick in his chest lightly.)
Robin: I’m sure you can.
Patrick: You know, you will miss me tomorrow while I’m busy playing doctor and you’ll be here… what will you be doing exactly while I’m off earning a living?
(Robin leans on her door and looks up at Patrick. She pretends to be thinking very deeply.)
Robin: Hmm… maybe I will do some online shopping, and then I could get a manicure and pedicure.
Patrick: I think you’re healed. You can come back to work.
Robin: Not yet. I still have a whole week of sick days left.
Patrick (simply): Well, you know I’d be happy to examine you personally to see if we can move that date up for you to return to work earlier.
Robin: Now Dr. Drake, would you want to jeopardize my amazing recovery… (Moves toward him) all because you’ll miss me?
(Patrick smirks a bit.)
Patrick: I said nothing about missing you.
Robin: You didn’t have to. (Smiles) You’ve never worked at GH without me. You’ll miss me, trust me. (Sweetly) Good night, Dr. Drake.
(Robin turns around and opens the door to her room. She starts to walk into her room and close the door behind her, but Patrick sticks his foot in the doorway stopping her. She looks up at him with her eyes widened.)
Patrick: Don’t I get a good night kiss?
Robin (thinks): I thought about it… but I gave you a few good kisses tonight. And you see, remember that theory you had? Your one-shot theory? (Proudly) Well, I had a theory too. I will not be like any other woman you ever dated. I promised myself that I would respect your brilliance, be amazed by all of your skills… but when you finally got that amazing first date with me… you weren’t getting inside my room.
Patrick: And a kiss would lead to that?
Robin: It might.
Patrick: And it doesn’t matter that I already saw the inside of your room? You in a robe? The inside of your bathroom? Sat on your bed?!?!
Robin: Nope. I let you prove your theory … now, it’s my turn. Good night, Dr. Drake.
(Robin closes the door to her room and exhales loudly. That was the hardest thing she had ever done. She leans on the back of her door and covers her face. Robin can faintly hear the sound of Patrick opening the door to his room and then the sound of things being thrown around a bit. She has to laugh slightly. Robin walks further into her room. She checks her messages then changes into her pajamas – a simple tank top and pajama bottoms. She sits on her bed slowly then looks around her room. It was so quiet. She lies down and stares at the ceiling then finally faintly hears the sound of Patrick’s shower running. The shower suddenly stops after about ten minutes. Robin glances over at her flowers that Patrick brought her and she stands up looking down at them. She leans into them and takes a deep intake of breath. They smelled so good. Robin closes her eyes and remembers the feeling of Patrick dancing with her – his hands around her body, his lips so close to her, him kissing her hand, her lips. Her eyes shoot open.)
Robin: Oh, to hell with it!
(Robin runs toward her door and opens it. She walks over to the next room and knocks on the door. She can hear slight shuffling and then Patrick opens the door, wearing just pajama bottoms. In that moment, Robin appreciated their height difference even more – she got to stare directly at his chest. Patrick looks back at Robin curiously.)
Patrick (curiously): Did you forget something?
(Robin finally looks up at Patrick.)
Robin: That theory of mine… it was about you not getting inside my room. (Nervously) It said nothing about the inside of your room.
(And in an instant, Patrick scoops Robin in his arms, picking her up, and kisses her passionately as she throws her arms around his neck. He walks them inside his room, still kissing her, while holding her tightly in his arms. Now that is the way their date was supposed to end.)
