Chapter 33

- The Next Morning
Setting: Robin & Patrick’s Bedroom at the Penthouse
(It’s early in the morning. Patrick was the first to wake up. The sunlight shone through the window of their bedroom and beautifully danced upon Robin’s face. He simply slept on his side and watched her sleep. She looked so beautiful. Robin smiles in her sleep and nestles further into the blankets. Patrick wondered what she was dreaming about – it must be something good. He mentally makes a note to ask her later. Patrick tenderly pushes back a strand of her hair, kisses her forehead then turns off their alarm clock before it wakes her up and gets up to hop in the shower. Still deep in sleep, Robin nestles even further into her blankets and smiles even wider. Robin once read that dreams are answers to questions we haven't yet figured out how to ask. All Robin knew right now was this was a dream that she didn’t want to wake up from. She was walking through a garden in a beautiful white gown. She had no idea where she was walking to. She turned her head and saw her Uncle standing next to her on one side. He was looking back at her with so much love and she smiled widely toward him. Robin loved him so much and felt so safe whenever he was near. She felt a tug on her other arm and turned her head. It was her father, on the other side of her. Robert Scorpio. She loved him so very much too. A different love than her uncle’s. A separate love. Robin smiles toward him as well and he just quietly nods. She still had no idea where they were walking. This was a beautiful garden. They must be at a celebration. She can faintly hear the sound of music as they walk closer to their destination. Suddenly Robin sees everyone she loves and they stand at the sight of her. Robin’s eyes scan the scene laid out in front of her… there’s Felicia, Georgie, Maxie, Jesse, Dillon, Jax, Alan, Monica, Liz, Lucky, Nikolas, Lulu, Emily, Mike, Brenda, Anna, Aidan, Uncle Sean, Aunt Tiffany and… Noah Drake. That was strange. Someone was missing? Where was Patrick? Before she can ask her uncle or father where they are, she feels herself moving forward and suddenly she sees Patrick standing with his arms folded in front of his body with Michael McBain standing next to him. There he is. Robin smiles and immediately feels relief wash over her again. She continues walking with her father and uncle until they stop in front of Patrick and Michael. Robin still had no idea where they are. Both men kiss Robin’s cheek and she turns to stop them from leaving her as they walk away, but stops when she feels Patrick take her hand. She turns her head and he looks at her directly.)

Patrick: It’s okay, I’m here.
(Robin leans in and looks at Patrick.)
Robin (whispers): Patrick, what’s going on?
(Patrick simply takes both of Robin’s hands and looks back at her. She stares back at him waiting for a response. Why is he so quiet? Robin turns her head when suddenly she hears a looming voice next to them.)
Voice: Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today in the sight of God and the presence of these witnesses to join, this man and this woman, Patrick Drake and Robin Scorpio in the holy state of matrimony.
(Robin’s eyes burst open and she shoots up in bed. She covers her body with the blanket as she looks around her bedroom. It was a dream… just a dream. Her heart was beating out of her chest. Robin reaches for her bottle of water that she always leaves next to the bed for her morning pills. She takes a large gulp then pushes her hair back. She needs a shower. That would clear her mind. Robin stands up and reaches for Patrick’s pajama top. She closes her eyes. It was just a dream. Robin walks out of their bedroom and starts for the bathroom. Without thinking, she just opens the door and freezes at the sight of Patrick already in the shower. Those glass doors again. Hearing a noise, Patrick turns his head as he lathers up and smiles immediately at the sight of Robin.)
Patrick: The invitation is still open.
(Robin shakes her head and looks down at the ground.)
Robin: No, I could wait.
(Patrick notices that something’s off in Robin’s voice.)
Patrick: Hey… is everything okay?
Robin: Yeah, everything’s fine.
(Robin looks up and notices Patrick’s looking directly at her.)
Robin: I’m going to put a pot of coffee on.
(Robin starts to leave the bathroom, but stops when she hears the water shutting off and the sliding shower doors open. Behind her, Patrick grabs a towel and dries himself off. He quickly takes a spare towel and wraps it around his waist.)
Patrick: I’m done.
(Robin slowly turns around and looks at Patrick. He’s looking back at her, slightly concerned.)
Patrick: Are you sure everything’s okay?
(Robin diverts her eyes and looks at the wall.)
Robin: Yeah, I’m fine.
(Patrick gently turns her face toward his.)
Patrick: Did someone call? Did you get bad news or something?
Robin: Bad news? No.
Patrick: Oh, because when I left you… you looked pretty happy.
Robin (softly): Happy?
(Patrick smiles.)
Patrick: You were smiling so wide that I hoped I was in that dream.
Robin (nervously): My dream?
(Patrick dries his hair.)
Patrick (nonchalantly): Yeah, what was it about?
Robin: Um… it was just a dream.
(Robin starts to walk past Patrick toward the shower. He watches her curiously, but decides to drop it… for now. Before she goes into the shower, Patrick clears his throat.)
Patrick: Uh… you forgot something.
(Robin looks up and turns around slowly.)
Robin: What?
(Patrick walks over to Robin and caresses the side of her face while looking down at her.)
Patrick: This.
(Patrick simply leans down and kisses Robin tenderly. She sighs and eases slightly as she raises her hand and covers his. He slowly pulls away and looks at her.)
Patrick: Good morning, Dr. Scorpio.
(Robin emotionally nods.)
Robin (softly): Good morning, Dr. Drake.
Patrick: I’ll make the coffee.
(Robin nods then walks toward the shower. She removes the pajama top from her body and then steps into the steamy shower. Patrick watches her for a moment then leaves. Once he’s gone, Robin leans on the wall of the shower. She lets the warm water run over body then sighs as she pushes her hair back.)
Robin: It was just a dream.

- Hours Later
Setting: Nurses’ Station at General Hospital
(Patrick Drake just finished his first set of rounds. He sighs tiredly as he rubs his neck. He approaches the nurses’ station and Liz Webber looks up at him.)

Liz: Long day, Dr. Drake?
Patrick: You could say that.
(Liz nods as she starts organizing some of the files in front of her.)
Liz: Robin seemed to be having a long one too.
(Patrick looks up.)
Patrick: You’ve seen her?
Liz: Yeah. She just finished her rounds then said that she needed some fresh air.
(Patrick nods then looks back at Liz, clearly thinking.)
Patrick: I’ll be back. Thanks Liz.
(Liz looks up confused and watches Patrick Drake run toward the elevator.)

Setting: The Docks
(It was almost June. Robin is sitting on a bench that overlooks the Port Charles River. She can feel the sun on her face and the Port Charles River blew a soft breeze through her hair. She closes her eyes and allows the breeze attempt to wash away her thoughts. She looks up slightly when she feels a coolness wash over. Someone was standing above her, blocking the sun. Robin slowly opens her eyes and sees Jason standing there. She quietly sighs as he looks down awkwardly.)

Jason: I was going to keep walking.
Robin (quietly): But, what happened?
Jason: You looked… something’s bothering you.
(Robin just nods and looks down at her hands. Jason slowly and awkwardly sits down next to her.)
Jason: And I’ve wanted to talk to you alone about something. (pauses) Robin, I’m sorry.
(Robin turns her head and looks at Jason.)
Robin: For what?
Jason: It’s none of my business what goes on between you and Patrick.
(Robin looks down again at her hands and nods.)
Jason: Maybe he shows a different side to you than he does to everyone else. (looks at her) You do have a habit of bringing that out in people.
(Robin smiles slightly and looks back at Jason. She pauses for a moment then sighs.)
Robin: I’m scared, Jason.
Jason: Of what?
Robin: I’m afraid that I’m feeling too much too fast.
(Jason turns toward Robin fully and looks at her.)
Jason: What do you mean?
Robin: I’m starting to think about a future with Patrick. I’m starting to actually bank on one. (shakes her head) Every time I’ve done that in the past, I… (she looks at him) you know what’s happened, Jason.
(Jason nods and looks down. There’s an intense silence until Jason looks back at her and breaks it.)
Jason: It could be different this time. What happened with Stone was… it was unfair, Robin. You were both cheated. (sighs) And what happened with us… we were just young. (She nods emotionally) And we grew apart.
Robin: Jason, after us I didn’t think I would ever fall in love again. I never even thought that I would meet someone that would want to be with me the way you were. I never anticipated a “Patrick.” And you know how I like to have everything mapped out, planned for. This was completely unexpected and I didn’t have a game plan. I just fell. And I fell so hard and so fast that I didn’t get a chance to put up that safety net, you know? (he nods) And now it’s way too late to put one up.
(Jason pauses for a moment then looks at her.)
Jason: Do you think that Patrick could hurt you?
Robin: No. (looks down) But, I could hurt him. (looks at him) It’s unfair for me to want a future with someone when I can’t guarantee them one myself.
Jason: Because of the HIV?
Robin: I could get sick and… (Emotionally) I wouldn’t want to put anyone through that.
Jason: You stood by Stone.
Robin: That was different.
Jason: How?
Robin: It just was.
Jason: Robin, you can’t plan your future on “what-ifs.” (looks at her) Remember when you were the girl with no future and I was the boy with no past? (she nods) We’re not that anymore. You have a future and now I have a past. Time continues. And you have to live your life always remembering that. Yes, you could get sick. Patrick could get sick. Anything could happen, but living with regrets is far more worse than living knowing you did everything you could.
(Robin looks down and nods.)
Jason: Robin, you have to dream. You have to. (she looks at him) That’s what makes you who you are. That’s what made me fall in love with you. (she looks down) And what probably made Patrick fall in love with you, too.
(From above the docks, Patrick starts to walk down the stairs then stops when he sees Robin with Jason. He watches as Robin looks up at Jason and nods. Patrick takes a deep breath then starts to walk toward them. Jason sees Patrick first and exhales a loud breath then stands up. Robin looks up and sees Patrick as well. Jason looks back at Robin.)
Jason: Think about what I said.
Robin (softly): I will.
(Jason starts to walk away but stops when he hears Robin’s voice.)
Robin: Jason… thank you.
(Jason just nods then continues down the docks. Once they’re alone, Patrick sits down next to Robin.)
Patrick: Do I even want to know?
(Robin looks down at her hands.)
Robin: You were right this morning.
Patrick: About?
Robin: My dream.
Patrick (confused): Your dream?
(Robin looks back at Patrick with tears in her eyes.)
Robin: I was happy this morning. (sighs) And you were in my dream.
Patrick: And you’re not happy anymore? What was it about?

Chapter 34

Setting: The Docks
(Robin and Patrick are sitting on a bench that overlooks the Port Charles River.)

(Robin looks down again. She was shutting down again. Patrick sighs.)
Patrick: When my mother…
(Robin looks back at him.)
Patrick: When she was sick, I use to read this book to her about dreams. It was called “The Angels' Little Instruction Book.” Have you ever heard of it?
(Robin shakes her head no, as Patrick reaches toward her and takes her hand in his.)
Patrick: Well, there was this quote in there about dreams. It said to pay attention to them, because God's angels often speak directly to our hearts when we are asleep.
(Robin nods. He was right.)
Patrick: You don’t have to tell me about your dream, Robin. You don’t even have to tell me what you were talking to Jason about. (looks at her) I just want you to know that whatever you dreamt about that made you smile like that… it couldn’t have been that bad.
(Robin smiles.)
Robin: It wasn’t. (smiles widely) It was the most amazing dream, ever.
Patrick: And I was in it?
(Robin leans in toward Patrick and rests her head on his shoulder.)
Robin: It was about our future.
Patrick: And don’t tell me… I was accepting an extremely prestigious award.
Robin (murmurs): You were accepting something.
Patrick (lightly): Just tell me one thing – I did have hair, right?
(Robin looks up at him ready to burst out laughing.)
Patrick: My dad has amazing hair as you know, but on my mom’s side… they all had receding hairlines. I am terrified of that.
(Robin laughs as she shakes her head.)
Patrick: My hair is one of my best qualities.
Robin: Your hair was in perfect shape.
Patrick: Good, I’m relieved.
Robin (softly): You looked handsome. (she touches his face) Extremely handsome.
(Patrick takes her hand again.)
Patrick: So, this future you dreamt of… we were together?
(Robin nods.)
Patrick: Happy?
Robin: Very.
Patrick (smirks): In love?
Robin: Madly.
Patrick: I like this dream already.
(Patrick leans back on the bench and brings Robin back with him. She rests her head on his chest.)
Patrick: So, what freaked you out?
Robin: What happened to me not having to tell you what the dream was about?
Patrick: You know I’m impatient. If it’s our future, I want to know it too.
Robin (looks down): Can I keep this one to myself?
Patrick: Sure, but…
(Robin looks back at Patrick.)
Robin: Just know that it was the perfect dream, Patrick. (pauses) And that book you read to your mother… it was right. (smiles) My dream was definitely an angel speaking directly to my heart. (Softly) It knew my deepest wish.
Patrick: In that case, I hope it comes true. (kisses her quickly) All of it.
(Robin smiles, then leans in again and kisses Patrick tenderly. He smiles as Robin deepens the kiss and he pulls her toward him. It was times like these they felt like two school kids who couldn’t keep their hands off of each other. Suddenly the sound of a clearing throat startles them slightly. Robin is the first to look up as Patrick wipes her lipstick from his mouth.)
Robin: Noah!
(Noah smiles as he looks back at his son and his girlfriend.)
Noah: So, is this what all the doctors do on their lunch break?
(Patrick smirks as he takes Robin’s hand and she looks down embarrassed.)
Patrick: The lucky ones.
Noah (smirks): The very lucky ones.
(Robin’s face reddens as she looks back at Noah.)
Robin: So… where are you off to?
Noah: Kelly’s. I thought I’d grab a sandwich. (looks around) Get some fresh air. (looks at them both) Would you care to join?
(Robin looks at Patrick. She can tell he was about to say no. She stands up quickly smiling.)
Robin: We’d love to.
(Patrick watches Robin as she locks her arm with Noah’s. She looks up at him smiling.)
Robin: Did you know that Patrick and I both lived above Kelly’s?
(Noah starts laughing hysterically.)
Robin (laughing): What’s so funny?
Noah: The lengths my son would go to, to get the girl.
Robin: What does that mean?
(Patrick stands up.)
Patrick: My father is trying to say that the only reason I would ever move above Kelly’s is to be close to you.
(Robin looks a bit taken back.)
Robin (looks at Patrick): Is that true?
(Patrick just smirks.)
Patrick: I guess, we’ll never know… now, will we?
(Noah smirks as his son starts walking toward the diner. He looks down at Robin and smiles himself.)
Noah: If that was his plan, it seemed to work.
(Robin starts to laugh just as her cell phone goes off.)
Robin: Dr. Scorpio? (nods) I’ll be right there.
(Robin looks at Noah and Patrick.)
Robin: I’m sorry, guys, I have to go.
Noah: Duty calls?
Robin (looks at Patrick): Ms. Sullivan’s test results came in.
(Patrick nods then walks over to his girlfriend. He looks down at her then kisses her, not caring in the least that his father was watching.)
Patrick: Good luck.
(Robin smiles.)
Robin: Thank you. See you later.
(Robin runs off, leaving Patrick and Noah alone. The two men look at each other.)
Noah: Looks like it’s just me and you.
Patrick (sighs): Kelly’s has really good burgers. (thinks) And come to think of it, there’s something I’ve wanted to run by you.
Noah: As a colleague?
Patrick: No, as a father.
(Noah nods then follows his son toward the diner. Maybe there was hope for them yet.)

- Hours Later
Setting: General Hospital
(Robin just finished her last set of rounds. She sighs exhaustedly. Robin walks toward the Nurses’ Station and checks the messages to see if there were any for her. She straightens slightly when she sees one from her mother. Robin looks up as Liz approaches the nurses’ station.)

Robin: Liz, do you know what time my mom called looking for me?
Liz: It was a few hours ago.
(Robin holds up the paper.)
Robin: And this was all she said?
Liz: Your mom wasn’t exactly talkative.
(Robin sighs. She never was. Robin looks back down at the note.)
Robin (reading aloud): Going out of town. Will call you when I return. Mom.
(Robin shakes her head as she shoves the note into the pocket of her medical jacket. She slowly walks toward the waiting area of GH. Her mother never led a quiet life, even now in London. Robin can still remember when her mother lived with her for a short time in Paris. She seemed happy. “Seemed” being the operative word. Robin thought she was settling in nicely. Anna took yoga classes during the day and then read intently at night in the nearby garden. Robin honestly thought her mother was happy until the morning came when she woke up and found her mother packing her bags. She simply said that she wanted to live in London and revisit her familial roots. It made no sense to Robin. What familial roots? Aidan, her other only living relative was in Pine Valley. Robin knew the truth. Anna Devane couldn’t settle down. She wasn’t ready to settle down just yet. And now Robin just received another “not-so-surprising” message from her mom. Robin quietly wondered where she would end up this time. Deep down, she knew her mother wasn’t going on some vacation; she wasn’t backpacking through Europe. Her mother was on one of her adventures. From an early age, Robin knew when she was being lied to. She just didn’t want to acknowledge it because acknowledging it would mean admitting that her mother was letting her down again. She was off chasing another adventure, another venture instead of being her mother. But she was her mother. And her mother was bored. Robin knew that and she saw that. Anna Devane didn’t do yoga; she didn’t read intently by moonlit gardens. She didn’t do motherhood. Anna Devane did adventures. Robin closes her eyes and sighs sadly. She DID do motherhood. Anna was the best mother to Robin. She loved her intensely, ferociously; she just loved living her own life as well. And Robin knew that. The last time her mother ran off, Robin simply hugged her tightly and begged her to let her know where she was once she settled in. And she was gone for almost two months when Robin received one muffled cell phone call from an unlisted number from her. And just like before, Anna Devane was on a mission and Robin had no idea what it was, but she couldn’t be obsessed with it. Robin had to live her life like she had done before; like she had for years before her mother came back to her; like she had for years after she found out her mother was alive and she chose not to be with her. Robin, simply, had to live her life. It was just different now because she knew what it was like to have her back. Robin jumps from her thoughts when she feels Patrick plop down on the couch next to her.)
Patrick: Hey beautiful.
(Robin smiles as she turns toward Patrick.)
Robin: Hey.
(Patrick looks back at Robin.)
Patrick: What’s wrong?
Robin: Nothing. It’s just my mom. She’s on one of her adventures again.
Patrick: Again?
Robin: She does this every few months. (runs her hands through her hair) I was hoping she would grow out of that.
(Patrick laughs and Robin turns her head to look at him.)
Robin: What’s so funny?
Patrick: Who’s the parent again? You or her?
Robin: Ha, ha!
Patrick: Oh! You forgot your cell phone in my lab coat.
(Robin looks at Patrick and blushes.)
Robin: I wonder how that happened.
Patrick: I think it was when I caught you calling me on the roof and I…
(Robin smiles as she snatches the phone from him.)
Robin: I remember. Thank you very much. Hey… did you want to ask me something? I know we got interrupted and…
Patrick: Yeah, but it could wait.
Robin: Okay.
(Robin looks down at the phone and notices a missed call.)
Robin: Hmm… I have a voice message.
(Robin checks her voice mail as Patrick starts skimming through some of his files.)
Male’s Voice: Hey Honey.
(Robin jumps straight up from the couch.)
Male’s Voice: It’s Uncle Sean. Give me a call when you get this.
(Robin’s face turns pale. Patrick notices the shift in Robin’s behavior and looks back at her.)
Patrick (concerned): Hey… what is it?
(Robin simply stands up.)
Robin: I have to… I have to go.
(Patrick watches curiously as Robin walks toward the staircase of the hospital. He knew he should follow her, but something told him that Robin wanted to be alone. Whatever it was, she’d fill him in. He knew she would.)
