Chapter 39

- Hours Later

Setting: The Scorpio-Jones House

(Robin has spent the last hour or so filling in a speechless Mac about her activities of the last few days. She told him about the alias of "Derrick Robinson" and that she wasn’t certain if it was an actual person, but it was a name her father once used to open a bank account that was now suddenly being withdrawn from. Robin also showed Mac each document that she took pictures of from Sean’s briefcase as well as told him what the banker in Boston told her and Patrick. Without any words or interruptions, Mac listened to her intently and soon his mind was swirling in a million and one directions just as his nieces’ was. It was possible that Robin’s father, Mac’s brother, was alive and using the alias of Derrick Robinson. However, the idea frightened him; terrified him. It was dangerous to have hope for something like that.)

Robin (quietly): So, what do you think?

Mac (calmly): I think… I think I have to follow up on this.

(Mac looks down at the folder he takes from Robin’s hands.)

Mac: I will take care of this, Robin.

Robin: What are you going to do?

Mac: I’m going to take a few days off from work and find out what’s going on.

Robin: Where are you going to start?

Mac: I have a few ideas. (Looks at her) But, you’re going to step back a bit from this.

Robin: Uncle Mac, no.

Mac: Let me do this on my own, Robin. (Simply) You did your part – now let me do mine.

Robin: I’m not going to argue with you; I know it can be pointless. (Sighs) But, what do you think this means?

Mac: It means something shifted. Someone somewhere is using money that your father saved for some reason.

(Robin looks down at her hands resting in her lap then back up at her uncle.)

Robin: When I found out that my parents were on that boat when it exploded, you know that I didn’t believe it, Uncle Mac. (He nods slightly) Uncle Mac, I didn’t believe it and look – my mom is alive!

Mac: Don’t go there, Robin. (Emotionally) Don’t go there yet.

Robin: So while I’m not going there, am I suppose to just sit here and just wait to hear from you?

Mac: No, you live your life with your boyfriend. You do your work as a brilliant doctor. Robin, you carry on with your life.

Robin: That’s easier said than done.

Mac: Robin, if your father is alive or if someone is using his money, then I want to get to the bottom of this.

Robin: If I can’t be the one figuring it out then I want it to be the one person I trust most – and that would be you, and only you. (Sighs) What can I do? How can I help you?

Mac: Robin, you brought me all this information. You’ve done all the preliminary footwork. What more can you do?

Robin: I don’t know – everything and nothing.

Mac: Okay, listen to me. Here’s what we’re going to do. You’re going to go back to Patrick, take a long shower and just enjoy his company.

(Robin smiles widely.)

Robin: And when did you become the president of the Patrick Drake fan club?

Mac: When he put that smile back on your face. (She looks down) And when he did something for you that no other man ever has. (She looks at him) He dropped everything for you. (Simply) He loves you, Robin… even I can see that.

Robin: And for once you approve?

Mac: I’m telling you to spend time with him, aren’t I? So yes!

(Robin smiles and takes her uncle’s hand in hers. She leans on his shoulder smiling.)

Robin: You’re an amazing man, Uncle Mac. I hope you know how much I love you. (Looks at him) Not only as an uncle or a family member, but as a person. You are the best person I know. I will ever know. (Tearfully) You stopped your life for me, Uncle Mac – and I don’t know how I’ll ever be able to repay you.

(Mac tearfully smiles then leans in and kisses Robin’s forehead.)

Mac (looking at her): Just keep doing what you’re doing and keep being who you already are. (Pushes her hair back) My amazing, beautiful niece Robin. (Smiles) I love you.

Setting: Robin & Patrick's Penthouse

(It's been a long day. Robin Scorpio slowly opens the door to the home she shares with her boyfriend and tiredly sighs. She steps into the Penthouse then stops short when she notices that the entire lower level is illuminated by only a few candles. Robin looks around the room curiously.)

Robin: Patrick?

(Hearing his name, Patrick walks from the back of the Penthouse carrying a single pink rose. Robin smiles tearfully as he approaches her.)

Patrick: I've been told that the pink rose is supposed to represent gratitude and appreciation.

(Robin takes the rose from him smiling then inhales the sweet scent of it.)

Robin: And you're giving it to me?

Patrick: Because I've never appreciated having something in my life more than I do you.

(Robin looks back at Patrick and shakes her head.)

Robin: You know, I always think I am so wise, but honestly I didn’t have the faintest idea.

Patrick (smiles): About what?

Robin: That I could love someone or need someone as much as I do you.

Patrick: Want to know the scariest part? (Leans in) It goes both ways.

(Patrick takes one of her hands in his and looks down at it.)

Patrick: I've never depended on anyone before. I don’t know how I feel about this.

Robin: Does it scare you?

(Patrick doesn't answer her.)

Robin: Because it terrified me.

(Patrick finally looks back up at Robin.)

Robin: That day you saw me with Jason on the docks - that's what we were talking about. (Sighs) After Jason, I swore that I would never give anyone my heart again... it just wasn't worth it. (Looks at him) But then I met you... and it became not only worth it, but something I HAD to do. I had to give you my heart. Patrick. It was just that way. I didn't have much of a choice. (Smiles) So, you give me a rose and I'll give you my heart.

Patrick: YOU! You always have to one-up me!

Robin (laughing): No, I don’t!

Patrick (mimics her): You give me a rose; I’ll give you my heart. How am I supposed to one-up that?

Robin: I don’t need you to.

Patrick: Well, I would still like to at least try to. (Takes her hand) Come with me.

(Patrick takes Robin and leads her to the couch. He sits down next to her.)

Patrick: You know, I've been thinking.

Robin: That is never good.

(Patrick looks down and laughs while shaking his head.)

Patrick: Normally, it isn't. (Looks back at her) But, I think this might be a rare exception.

(Robin gently runs her fingers through Patrick's hair.)

Robin: What's on your mind, Patrick Drake?

Patrick: You. Me. You and me. (Laughs) Us.

Robin (laughs): That narrows it down.

Patrick (looks down): Also, I've been thinking a lot about my mom.

(Patrick looks back at Robin sincerely.)

Patrick: She'd really like you.

(Robin smiles.)

Robin: Really?

Patrick: You remind me a lot of her and I didn't realize how much until my father pointed it out to me.

Robin: He did?

Patrick: When you deserted us and we were force to have lunch together at Kelly's.

(Robin laughs as she shakes her head.)

Robin: Well, then I'm glad I did.

(They sit in silence for a moment and Patrick reaches for Robin's hand. He holds it while staring down at it.)

Patrick: I want to take care of you, Robin.

(Robin smiles as she looks back at Patrick.)

Robin: I am more than capable of taking care of myself.

Patrick: I know you are. (He looks back at her) I think you are more than capable of taking care of both of us. (Pauses) But, you are the first person I want to try to take care of.

(Robin raises her free hand and caresses the side of Patrick's face.)

Robin: Well, you are doing a really good job at it, so far. (Simply) I don't know what I would've done these last few days without you. (Emotionally) As much as I want my father to be somewhere out there, I know that I'll be okay if he isn't. I mean, I would be beyond disappointed, but I wouldn't be alone. For the first time in a very long time, I don't feel alone.

(Robin looks down.)

Robin: I know I pretend to be brave and strong, but sometimes I'm just… not. (Looks at him) And I do need someone to lean on from time to time. (Sincerely) And I'm so glad that I found him in you.

Patrick: Do you mean that?

Robin: Of course; I wouldn't say it, if I didn't. I just wish I could give you something more back.

Patrick: You don't need to. You already give me everything I could imagine wanting.

Robin: Then, just promise me that whenever you find that you need something else that I haven't given you yet, you'll just tell me.

Patrick: Do you really mean that?

Robin (unsure): Yeah.

Patrick: Good… that should make this a little bit easier then.

(Robin looks back at Patrick confused. She watches as suddenly he kneels down in front of her, still holding her hand. Her eyes immediately widen. This isn't happening. Robin covers her mouth slowly as Patrick stares back at her.)

Patrick: Robin.

Robin (breathes): Patrick, what are you…

Patrick: Just listen.

Robin: Patrick.

Patrick: I’m not good with words. I can use a scalpel with the ease that others use a pencil, but… when I look at you, when I think of you… I’m at a complete loss of words. (shakes his head) I have no idea what words to use to express how you make my life worth living; and that you make me look forward to every morning. (simply) Robin, you are the best thing that has ever happened to me and I love you. I love you more than I even thought possible and by some miracle, you love me too. (She looks down at their joined hands) This is so much more than just me wanting to be with you. Robin, I want to spend the rest of my life with you and I want that more than I have ever wanted anything. (he looks at her) You are something so good and pure in my life. I don’t want this feeling I have in my heart to ever end. (smiles) And I have no idea what I ever did to be worthy of having you in my life, but I must’ve done something incredibly good somewhere at sometime, because I got pretty lucky to be here holding your hand, loving you with my whole heart. (She smiles tearfully) So… I’m really hoping that my luck lasts a few more moments and that you will say "yes" to this. (looks at her) Robin Scorpio, will you marry me?

(Robin exhales a rather large breath.)

Robin: I don’t know what to say. I just… don’t you think this is a little quick?

Patrick: My dad only knew my mom for 6 months when they got married. (her eyes widen) And I’m not asking you to marry me tomorrow… I’m just asking you to marry me someday.

(Robin looks down again.)

Robin: Someday.

(Patrick looks up smirking.)

Patrick: Maybe next year, next month… next week.

(Robin laughs as she hits Patrick’s shoulder.)

Robin: Patrick! I’m serious, here!

(Patrick looks back at her.)

Patrick (lightly): And I’m not? I am on my knee, here, asking for your hand in marriage.

Robin: Marriage? (simply) Patrick, have you thought this through?

Patrick: Well, I’d hope so, since…

(Patrick reaches into the back pocket of his jeans and reveals a simple yet beautiful diamond ring. Robin’s mouth falls slightly at the sight of it.)

Robin (sighs): Patrick…

Patrick: This ring belonged to my mother. Before she… (looks at her) before she died, she gave this to me. She always thought I’d find someone who I’d actually consider my equal. (they both laugh) I think she had more faith than I did in that.

(Robin pushes her hair behind her ear as she looks down at the ring.)

Robin: Was that her engagement ring?

Patrick: Yes. (honestly) And she loved my dad more than… more than she probably should have, but she did. I didn’t understand it before, but now I do. You can’t choose who you fall in love with; it just happens and once it does, you can’t stop it… and you wouldn’t want to, if you could. (looks back at her) I don’t want to ever stop loving you, Robin. (simply) Please marry me… today, tomorrow, next week, next year… whenever you’ll have me, I’m yours – always.

(Robin smiles tearfully and shakes her head.)

Robin: Patrick Drake, you… (looks at him) you always know how to render me speechless. (laughs) I hate that about you! (smiles) And love it too.

Patrick: I don’t need big words, here… monosyllabic ones work.

(Robin bites her bottom lip smiling.)

Robin (tenderly): I really want to spend the rest of my life with you.

Patrick: So, what’s stopping you?

(Robin smiles widely.)

Robin: You didn’t put that ring on my finger yet.

(Robin extends her left hand toward Patrick.)

Robin (emotionally): I want to be your wife, Patrick. (smiles) Yes, I’ll marry you!

(Patrick releases a large breath then nervously slips the delicate engagement ring onto Robin’s finger. She smiles looking down at it then looks back at Patrick smiling widely. Before he can even say anything, Robin leaps toward Patrick, throws her arms around his neck and begins to cover his face in kisses.)

Robin: I love you, I love you, I love you!

(Patrick laughs happily as they fall back onto the floor. Slowly, Robin pulls away and looks down at him.)

Robin: I do, Patrick. I love you.

(Patrick reaches up and gently touches Robin’s face.)

Patrick: We’re going to have an amazing life together.

Chapter 40

- Hours Later

Setting: Robin & Patrick’s Penthouse

(Robin and Patrick are lying on the couch covered simply by a blanket. Robin is lying against Patrick’s chest as she raises her left hand to admire it. He smiles and kisses her bare shoulder.)

Patrick: It looks like it was made for you.

Robin: Your father had good taste. (curiously) Do you think he’ll mind that you gave it to me?

Patrick (smiles): I knew you’d ask that!

Robin (laughs): What?!?

Patrick: No, he doesn’t mind. (smiles) I think he likes you more than me, anyway.

Robin: We just clicked, that’s all.

Patrick: Well, I actually asked him first.

(Robin turns around slightly and looks at Patrick.)

Robin: You did?

Patrick: That day at Kelly’s after you left us.

Robin: You were busy that day, huh?

Patrick: I just wanted to do this right.

Robin: Do you remember that day?

Patrick: Of course.

Robin: Remember you thought something was wrong with me?

Patrick: You had that dream…

(Robin turns around in Patrick’s arms and looks at him.)

Robin: I dreamt of our wedding.

(A surprised Patrick looks back at Robin.)

Patrick: Really?

Robin (emotionally): It was perfect, Patrick. It was outdoors and my…

(Before Robin can finish, there is a slight knocking on the door of their Penthouse. Patrick looks back at Robin curiously.)

Patrick: Don’t forget where you left off. I want to hear the rest.

(Patrick kisses Robin quickly then stands up.)

Robin: I’ll get dressed.

(Patrick nods then throws on his jeans and T-shirt. He turns around to ensure that Robin is out of eye-shot then opens the door slowly as Robin throws on a tank top and her pajama pants. Once she’s dressed, Robin curiously walks back toward Patrick.)

Robin: Patrick, who is it?

(Patrick turns around slowly and looks at Robin.)

Patrick: It’s your mom.

(Robin steps forward. Suddenly it’s as if she lost all of her senses. She stares at her mother for a moment then finally is able to open her mouth to speak.)

Robin (softly): Mom?

(Anna exhales a deep breath.)

Anna: Oh Robin.

(Robin moves next to Patrick in the doorway and looks back at Anna. She feels Patrick softly reach for her hand and takes a deep breath.)

Robin: Daddy. Is he alive?

Male Voice: Daddy’s home, Luv.

(Robin covers her mouth in shock as Robert Scorpio steps forward revealing himself. Tears immediately form in her eyes as she suddenly feels his strong arms around her and lifting her slightly off the ground to hug her. Patrick watches quietly and smiles. Finally, a happy ending. He suddenly notices Mac standing next to Anna as well. Uncle Mac came through again. Robin slowly pulls away from her father and looks up at him.)

Robin: Are you for real?

Robert: As real as you are. (Looks at her) But not quite as beautiful.

Robin (softly): Daddy.

(Robin reaches up and hugs her father again as Mac and Anna slowly walk into the Penthouse. Patrick quietly closes the door behind them and tries to fade in the background. Mac looks over at Patrick.)

Mac: I’m assuming we interrupted your evening.

(Patrick looks back at Mac confused then suddenly realizes that the entire Penthouse is surrounded by candles. "Oh, this is a good first impression," Patrick thinks as he tries to nonchalantly blow out the candles and turn each light on. Anna looks over at her daughter.)

Anna: Robin, your uncle and I will give you some alone time with your father.

(Robin immediately reaches toward her mom.)

Robin: Don’t go, please!

(Patrick steps forward.)

Patrick: Why do we just grab a bite to eat in the kitchen?

(Anna nods then looks down at her daughter’s hand that’s holding her arm. She immediately notices the diamond ring now adorning her left hand. Anna looks back at Patrick.)

Anna: That sounds good. (looks at Mac) Mac?

Mac: Sure. I’d love to see what you did to the place.

(Mac, Anna and Patrick start walking toward the kitchen as Robin sits down next to her father.)

Mac: I hope you fumigated all those Corinthos’ germs out of here.

(Once they’re alone, Robin touches Robert’s face again.)

Robin: I can’t stop touching you.

Robert: I’m real, Luv. I promise.

Robin: What happened? Where have you been?

Robert: I was in a hospital going through rehabilitation. I had to relearn everything – how to speak, eat, socialize. I was released last month.

Robin: Derrick Robinson. You withdrew the money.

Robert (smiles): I had medical bills to pay. (touches her cheek) I’ll redeposit the funds, I promise.

Robin: I don’t care about that. (looks at him) I care about you! Daddy, I can’t believe you’re here with me. There is so much I want to tell you. (Thinks) Did you… did you have amnesia like mom?

Robert: A few memory lapses. I’ve gotten it all back now. (looks down) When I regained consciousness, they filled me in your life.

(Robin looks down quietly.)

Robin: Oh.

Robert: You lived in Paris?

(Robin looks back at her father.)

Robin (hesitantly): Daddy, do you know about the…

Robert: I know about the HIV..

Robin: Daddy…

Robert: We don’t need to talk about that now. I want to hear about your life… because that’s what you’re doing – you’re living an amazing life.

Robin (smiles): I’m a doctor.

Robert (laughing): I know. For some reason, I imagined you as a lawyer. (She looks at him confused) With that charming wit of yours and those distinguishing good looks, you could turn the hardest of jurors.

Robin: Aah – you just remember the debates we use to have.

Robert: You were an equal sparring partner from the very beginning. (smiles) The best one I ever had.

(Robert takes his daughter’s hand and Robin looks down at them.)

Robin: You taught me to never step down from your beliefs.

Robert: And always get the last word in.

(Robin looks back Robert.)

Robert: I am so proud of you, honey.

(Robert looks back at Robin.)

Robert: So, the gentleman you’re living with…

(Robin looks up.)

Robin: Patrick?

Robert: Patrick. Does this ‘Patrick’ have a last name?

Robin (looks at him): You don’t see the resemblance?

Robert: I must’ve missed it as he frantically blew out all of those candles.

(Robin laughs as Robert looks around the room.)

Robert: I’m assuming that a doctor, like yourself, can pay the electric bills. (looks back at her) Is he a romantic?

Robin: He’s a Drake.

Robert: Drake as in Noah. (smiles) That explains the candles. Did you meet him in Paris?

Robin: No, I met him in Port Charles.

Robert: What made you decide to leave Port Charles?

(Robin fidgets in her seat a bit and looks around.)

Robin: A few things. I went to Yale first then I applied to a program at the Sorbonne and got in.

Robert: That’s still a big choice for a young woman to make – to leave the town, the country you’ve known your whole life. Something made you leave.

Robin: I just thought it would be best for me at that time to leave Port Charles.

Robert (bluntly): Because of Jason Morgan and Sonny Corinthos?

Robin: Wow! I can see you caught up with Uncle Mac.

(Robert is forced to laugh a bit.)

Robert: My brother has a one-track mind when it comes to you.

Robin (laughs): Yes – guard dog!

Robert: The best type. (quietly) How is he? Really?

Robin (smiles brightly): He’s Uncle Mac. He’s amazing. He’s my rock. (Sincerely) He has missed you so much, Daddy. If there’s anyone on this earth that’s missed you and mom as much I have, it was him.

Robert: And he took care of you?

Robin: The best care of me. (tearfully) I was in the best hands.

Robert (looks down): I’m sure he loved you like his own.

(Robin gently lifts her father’s chin and looks at him.)

Robin: He never tried to replace you. He just loved me the best way he knew how and the only way he knew how was to make you proud. (crying) Every day, he tried to love me and take care of me the way he thought you would’ve. You were his big brother and he never stopped looking up to you.

Robert: Mac was more than your Uncle, Robin. He was your entire family all rolled into one – uncle, father, mother, and guardian. Mac was your lifeline. I’ll never be able to repay him for raising you.

(Robin suddenly comes to a realization.)

Robin: Have you told Uncle Sean?

Robert: Your Uncle Sean is the one that told us that you broke into his hotel room in Boston.

Robin: But he didn’t know…

Robert: No, when you were with him in Boston – he didn’t know. Your mother and I needed his help to get out of Europe.

Robin: And Uncle Mac?

Robert: Sean contacted him. We all felt that I should be the one to tell you I was alive.

(Robin smiles.)

Robin (laughs): Thanks Dad!

(Robin smiles again then shakes her head in amazement.)

Robin: I am so unbelievably happy. (hugs him) Thank you so much for coming back to me, daddy.

Setting: The Kitchen in Robin & Patrick’s Penthouse

(Patrick is standing in front of an open refrigerator, looking for something to offer his future-in-laws, as Anna and Mac sit at the small kitchen table. With Patrick’s back to them, Anna repeatedly tries to get Mac’s attention by pointing to her left hand. Of course, Mac being Mac, has no idea what’s she’s gesturing about or referring to. An exasperated Anna raises her ring finger on her left hand and literally points to it. A confused Mac once again shrugs his shoulders. A frustrated Anna sighs then leans in toward him.)

Anna: Men really don’t have a clue.

(Patrick turns around holding a bottle of red wine, cheese and crackers.)

Patrick: This is all I have. (thinks) Maybe I should call Kelly’s or Metro Court and see if they could deliver something.

Anna: No, that’s fine. I’m not all that hungry.

Patrick: You’re sure?

Anna: I’ll just take a cup of tea, if you have any.

Mac: Robin lives here, of course he does!

(Anna nods then looks at Mac, again eyeing her left hand. He just shakes his head. Anna rolls her eyes slightly. They look up when suddenly Robert and Robin walk through the entranceway.)

Robert: I think we caught up some.

(Anna smiles as she turns around and looks at her daughter.)

Anna: Good.

(Robin moves next to her mother and hugs her tightly.)

Anna: I’m sorry I couldn’t tell you sooner.

Robin: I don’t care… as long as you’re here.

(White hugging her mother, Robin extends her hand and reaches toward Mac.)

Robin: All of us.

(Mac smiles, then takes Robin’s hand as Robert steps forward and gently rubs her shoulder. The Scorpios were reunited. Mac is about to say something when he suddenly sees a bright light reflected from Robin’s hand that he’s holding. His eyes widen and from the corner of Anna’s eye she notices the change in Mac’s demeanor. Anna laughs slightly. Men really were the last to know everything. Over her mom’s shoulder, Robin looks toward Patrick and mouths, "thank you." He just simply nods while watching. Everything was falling into place, the way it should be.)
