Chapter 41
- The Next Day
Setting: Kelly’s Diner
(It’s a beautiful June morning. The Scorpio family spent hours catching up and once they were ready to hit pure exhaustion, Mac took Robert and Anna back to their previous home while Robin stayed behind with Patrick in her current one, but she couldn’t sleep. All she wanted to do was stay up and talk to Patrick about her family. She wanted to tell him everything she could about her father. She wanted to tell him about his bravery, his great sense of humor – just everything she could remember until she simply fell asleep in his arms. And for the rest of the night, Patrick watched Robin sleep until he eventually gave into sleep himself. Once morning approached, Robin and Patrick decided to go out for breakfast since their kitchen was getting emptier by the day. Sitting at one of the corner tables, Patrick watches Robin staring down at her left hand while they wait for the omelets. He smiles proudly.)
Patrick: See something you like?
(Robin looks up smiling.)
Robin: You caught me.
(Patrick reaches toward Robin and takes her left hand into his. He looks down at it as well.)
Patrick: It looks really good on your hand.
(Robin leans in and kisses Patrick tenderly then pulls away from him.)
Robin: I want to tell my parents and uncle Mac as soon as possible, but…
Patrick: They need to settle in first.
Robin (smiles): It’s just… I want to tell the world.
(Patrick smiles and leans in toward her.)
Patrick: And what would you tell them?
(Robin smiles widely.)
Robin: That Robin Scorpio is not only going to get married, but she is going to marry the most brilliant, sexiest man in all of Port Charles.
Patrick (smirking): All of Port Charles? That’s it?
Robin: How about the eastern seaboard?
Patrick: Now, come on – you are a girl of the world. You’ve been to Italy, Spain, lived in Paris… and all I get is Port Charles?
Robin (smiles): Now, if you think I’m going to tell you that you are not only the smartest, but also the most sexiest man in the world… then…
Patrick: Then what?
(Robin leans in and kisses Patrick again. He smiles as she deepens the kiss, then slowly pulls away and looks at him.)
Robin: Then you do know me pretty well.
Patrick: You know, you’re not bad yourself, Scorpio.
(Robin smiles, as Mike walks over to them and brings over their breakfast.)
Mike: Hey gorgeous.
(Robin looks up at Mike.)
Robin: Hi Mike.
Mike: Here is your spinach egg-white omelet. (Looks at Patrick) And here is your mushroom omelet.
Patrick (smiles): So, do you miss us, Mike?
Mike (looks at Robin): I miss seeing this gorgeous face every morning, but then who wouldn’t?
(Robin smiles, as Mike gently touches her cheek then goes back to the counter. Patrick looks back at Robin and smiles.)
Patrick: Now, you see why I snatched you up when I did. (Looks around Kelly’s) There is competition… everywhere.
Robin: Competing for what? Me?
Patrick (smirks): Only the most brilliant and sexiest woman in the entire world.
(Robin blushes slightly as Patrick starts to eat his omelet.)
Patrick (lightly): See, I gave you the ‘entire world’… not just some measly town in upstate New York.
(Robin looks back at Patrick and offers him some of her omelet.)
Robin: But, you are my entire world; that’s all that matters.
(Patrick smiles, then takes a bite of the omelet.)
Patrick: That’s better. (Smiles) Good omelet.
Setting: The Docks
(Robert Scorpio is walking down the docks with Anna. He sighs as he turns and looks at his wife.)
Robert: This town looks the same.
Anna: Port Charles never changes.
Robert: The people did. They got older.
Anna: And what do you think happened to you? You got younger?
Robert (laughs): I prefer wiser.
Anna: Oh, you’ve yet to prove that.
(Robert laughs slightly then walks toward the foot of the docks. He looks out at Wyndemere.)
Robert: That’s where the Cassidines live?
Anna: There are only two left in Port Charles – Nikolas Cassidine and Alexis Davis.
Robert: Nikolas? Laura’s son?
Anna: You’re doing well with the names.
Robert: Well, Robin went on about how great Nikolas was for quite some time last night. (Looks at her) She doesn’t think I picked up on that. It was blatantly obvious that she doesn’t want me to start a Cassidine war.
Anna: Well, there is no reason for you to do that… is there, Robert?
Robert: Not yet. No.
Anna: If we’re going to start a war, it’d be one against organized crime.
Robert: Different animal, same beast.
Anna: However, we are not going to start a war. You are here for your daughter – that is all!
(Suddenly Noah Drake appears at the foot of the docks and smiles widely at the sight of Anna and Robert Scorpio.)
Noah: So, my son wasn’t playing too much with the funny gas.
(Robert smiles as he turns around.)
Robert: Noah Drake.
Noah: Patrick told me that you were back. (Nods) It’s good to see you.
Robert: You too. (Smiles) You’ve actually aged pretty well.
Noah: I just got out of rehab.
Robert (laughs): Oh, and that helps the aging process?
Noah: I’m thinking it might. It saved my life… gave me a few extra years with my son.
(Anna moves forward.)
Anna: Speaking of which… our children seem pretty close.
(Noah nods. He was the only one that knew Patrick planned on asking Robin to marry him.)
Noah: Patrick loves your daughter.
Anna: I think the feeling is mutual.
Noah: They’re good together. Robin needed someone like him and he definitely needed someone like her. They just fit.
Robert: Well, for now I have to take your word for it.
Noah: And my word’s worth?
Robert: It worth a lot more now that I know you’re sober.
(Noah laughs while nodding.)
Noah: Welcome back, Robert.
Setting: Kelly’s Diner
(Patrick is at the counter paying for his breakfast with Robin. She’s sitting by herself staring down at her left hand. She was engaged! She was finally engaged! Robin smiles as her mind goes back to another time and a completely other place. Robert and Anna had just returned from Finger Lakes. He just told Mac and Robin that he was going to marry Anna. An ecstatic Robin throws her arms around her father and squeals happily.)
Robin: Dad, you proposed? I can't believe it. I'm so thrilled!!
Robert (dryly): Yeah, yeah.
Mac: Hey, put me in that category myself.
Anna (jokingly): Yeah, yeah.
Mac: We're all very thrilled.
Robin (excited): How did it happen? When and where were you? (To Anna) Of course, you accepted?
Anna: Yes, I accepted. It doesn't matter where we were.
Robert (confused): Wait a minute, did you call me 'dad'?
(Robin looks back at Robert confused.)
Mac: Look, where were we? It was a very beautiful, romantic countryside motel...
Anna (interrupts): Mac, it wasn't. It was a very cheap and cheesy motel.
Robin (looks at her father): No, it wasn't?
Anna: Yes, it was. That doesn't matter; I still love your father.
Robin: You're absolutely right. (Hugging Robert) Dad, I'm so happy!
Robert (interrupts): Luv, did you call me 'dad'?
(Robin just looks at him as Anna nods.)
Anna: Yes. Well, look, you're daughter's growing up.
Robin (catching on): It's true Dad.
Robert (defeated): Oh, dad it is.
Robin (lightly): You'll get used to it.
(Robert and Robin hug. Olin, Robin’s nanny, enters the room without seeing Robert, Anna, or Mac.)
Olin: Hi Robin, I thought I'd better check in with you.
(Olin suddenly sees them.)
Olin: Oh, wow, look who's here? Oh awesome, it's the return of the Commish! Oh man, this is stoking!
Robert: We're stoked.
Anna: Yeah, we're stoked. We're very stoked.
Olin: I'm so happy to see all of you, and (Looks at Mac), you even brought back the bad seed with you.
Anna: Oh, I don't know. (She puts an arm around Mac) He's turning into be a nice future brother in law.
Olin: Brother in law? You mean hit the wedding bells?
Robin (excited): Yeah, dad proposed to mom yesterday.
Olin: Terrific, terrific. (She hugs Robert and Anna) Congratulations to you both. Oh this is rad!
Robin: So when are you gonna get married?
Anna (turns to Robert): When are we gonna get married?
Robert (thinking): Soon.
Anna (to Robin): Soon.
Olin (excited): Oh yeah. All kinds of details. Oh Commish, we gotta put the show on the road, huh?
Robert: Now, wait, wait, wait…
Olin (even more excited): Oh there's showers to throw. (Twirls around) Oh, and major party time...
Anna (to Robin): But you know what, there's something I've got to ask this daughter of mine.
Robin (quickly): Oh, I approve of you guys getting married.
Anna (laughs): Oh, well, it's not that. I mean, I'm glad you approve, but it's something I couldn't ask you the first time your father and I got married because, you didn't exist! (They laugh) But I would like you to be my maid of honor.
Robin (thrilled): Your maid of honor? I'd love to!
(In the present day, Robin smiles. She looks up when she feels Patrick kiss the back of her neck. She turns around slightly and smiles.)
Patrick: What are you thinking of?
Robin: My parents when they got remarried. (She looks at him fully) Up until that moment, that was the happiest I ever was.
Patrick: And now?
Robin: This is the happiest. Definitely the happiest.
(Patrick smiles and leans in and kisses Robin.)
Patrick: Good.
(Patrick looks up when he hears someone entering Kelly’s. He smiles immediately and Robin looks toward the door, excited to see her uncle.)
Robin: Uncle Mac!
(Robin immediately stands up and hugs her uncle.)
Mac: Good morning, sweetheart.
(As they pull apart, Anna, Robert and Noah walk into Kelly’s as well. Seeing them, Robin turns and looks at Patrick.)
Robin: Did you plan this?
Patrick: I couldn’t have, if I tried.
Robin: Maybe it’s fate.
Patrick: What…
(Robin walks toward her parents and hugs them then looks at them.)
Robin: There’s something I want to tell you. (Looks at Mac) All three of you.
(Robin looks at Noah.)
Robin: And I think you already know.
(Noah looks at Patrick.)
Noah: Oh, this is good.
Robert: I should probably take a seat.
(Robert sits down as Anna looks at Mac. She already knew what Robin’s announcement did, as did Mac thanks to his eventual observance.)
Robin: Daddy. (Looks at her mother) Mom. (Looks at Mac) Uncle Mac.
(Robin reaches behind her and takes Patrick’s hand in hers.)
Robin: Patrick and I…
(Robin takes a deep breath.)
Robin: Patrick asked me to marry him and I said "yes."
(Noah smiles widely and pats his son on the shoulder.)
Robert: Wow.
Mac: Wow is right.
Robin: Say something, guys… please.
(Robert and Mac look at one another then step forward. They both look square at Patrick.)
Robert: Welcome to the family.
Mac: You’re officially a Scorpio. (Smirks) Good luck.
Chapter 42
Setting: The Nurses’ Station at GH
(It’s been an intense day at the hospital. There have been back-to-back surgeries scheduled all morning as well as a pile-up on one of the town’s main roads. Luckily, there were no fatalities, but there were plenty of minor injuries. Robin Scorpio walks toward the Nurses’ Station to file one of her post-op reports and looks up when Liz approaches the desk.)
Liz: This is insane, huh?
Robin: Insane isn’t even the word. (Writing furiously) I don’t think I’ve had one minute to breathe since I signed in.
(Elizabeth smiles as she leans in toward Robin.)
Liz: I have some good news for you, then.
(Robin looks up.)
Robin: You do?
Liz: Looking at the schedule… you have twenty minutes free before your next consult.
(Robin looks back toward Liz hopeful.)
Robin: Do I? Really?
(Liz looks down at her watch.)
Liz: Twenty whole minutes.
Robin: Maybe I’ll grab a bite then.
Voice: Did someone say bite?
(Robin looks up when she feels Patrick’s arms wrap around her waist.)
Patrick: Because I am starving!
Liz: Well, you, Dr. Drake, also have a twenty-minute break because you are who Dr. Scorpio is consulting with. (Smiles) So, use it wisely.
(Patrick grabs Robin’s hand.)
Patrick: Oh, we will.
(Robin laughs loudly as Patrick pulls her toward the lounge. Once inside the lounge, Patrick leans down and kisses Robin tenderly as one hand rests her on her waist and the other caresses the side of her face. She smiles as he pulls away slowly.)
Robin: I feel better now.
(Patrick kisses Robin’s forehead quickly.)
Patrick: Today’s been crazy, huh?
(Robin reaches toward Patrick and takes both of his hands in hers.)
Robin: Absolutely. (Smiles) But, I still wouldn’t trade it for the world.
(Patrick raises Robin’s hand to his lips and kisses it softly then looks back at her.)
Patrick: So, have you thought more about our dinner?
Robin (sighs): Oh, you mean my brilliant idea?
Patrick: Inviting the Drakes and the Scorpios in one room can be a scary thing.
Robin: It can be… but it can also be a good thing. (Simply) Wouldn’t you like our families to get along?
(Patrick sighs then nods.)
Patrick: Okay. What can I do to help?
Robin: This was my brilliant idea; I’ll make it happen. (Kisses him quickly) I promise.
(Robin starts to walk away, but Patrick grabs her hand stopping her.)
Patrick: Uh… where do you think you’re going? We have at least a good fifteen minutes left before our consult.
Robin: Yes, but I have a dinner to plan.
Patrick: And it needs to be done "right" now?
Robin (nonchalantly): Well, I do have to find a place big enough for our entire family.
Patrick (confused): Entire family?
Robin: My mom, my dad, your dad, Uncle Mac, Felicia, Georgie, Maxie, Dillon and Jesse, of course and maybe…
Patrick: Find a place.
Robin (smiles): What changed your mind?
Patrick: Do you think I’d want all those people in our Penthouse at once?
(Robin laughs as she kisses Patrick again.)
Robin: Think of it this way… we’ll get to officially announce our engagement.
Patrick: Eh… the most important people know – me, you, your parents, your Uncle and my dad.
Robin (smiles): Your dad? He’s important?
(Patrick just smirks and shakes his head.)
Patrick: Go make your plans.
(Robin walks toward the door then stops. She turns back around and looks at Patrick.)
Robin: Thank you.
(A smiling Robin blows him a kiss then leaves. Once she’s gone, Patrick shakes his head then smiles as he sits down at the small desk. He glances at his watch then reaches toward the phone and picks it up. He quickly dials a number then smiles widely at the sound of the voice on the other end.)
Patrick: Hey McBain, you’ll never believe what I just did.
Setting: Outside of GH
(Robin is standing outside of the hospital with her planner in one hand and her cell phone in the other.)
Robin: Okay… it should be a party of about twenty or so. The occasion? Uh… let’s just call it a long overdue celebration. The date? Uh…
(Before Robin can respond, she feels her cell phone being grabbed from her hand. She spins around quickly and looks back at, her friend, Jax in shock.)
Jax: I’m sorry, Dr. Scorpio, just received a better offer from a better establishment.
(Robin’s mouth falls as Jax closes her cell phone. He throws it back at her and, quick with her reflexes, she catches it.)
Robin: What are you doing? Are you crazy?
Jax: Me? Are you crazy? How could you make reservations at another establishment?
Robin: Okay… can you do me a favor?
(Robin throws her cell phone back at Jax and he catches it.)
Robin: Dial the last number I called.
Jax: Robin…
Robin: Just do me this one favor.
Jax: Fine, but…
Robin: Just call.
(Jax opens Robin’s cell phone then puts it to his ear.)
Voice: Metro Court, how can I help you?
(Jax smiles widely toward Robin as she shakes her head.)
Jax: Yes, this Jasper Jacks. I would like to reserve the Metro Court for Dr. Robin Scorpio. Yes, that was me that hung up on you. I apologize for my rudeness, but to make up for it… can I reserve the entire restaurant for Robin and her guests. The date? (Looks at Robin) Any date she’d like. (Pauses) Thank you.
(Jax closes Robin’s cell phone then walks toward her. He smiles politely then gently places the phone in the pocket of her white lab coat. Robin smiles as she looks up at her good friend.)
Jax: Any date in particular?
Robin (laughs): I have a few in mind.
(Jax covers his face embarrassed.)
Jax: That was bad, wasn’t it?
Robin (laughs): No, that was overcompensating. Jax, you don’t have to make anything up to me. I told you, we are good.
Jax: I just want to be there for you.
Robin (sweetly): You are.
(Robin reaches toward Jax and gently takes his hand in hers. He immediately notices a new ring on Robin’s left hand. His eyes widen slightly as he looks down at it then back toward her.)
Jax: Are we planning a wedding reception?
(Robin’s face reddens slightly then she looks back at Jax.)
Robin: More like an engagement party.
Jax (happily): Robin! Congratulations!
(Jax grabs Robin and hugs her tightly. She smiles as they pull apart.)
Robin: You’re my first friend to know.
Jax (smirks): Not even Brenda?
Robin: It just happened. (Smiles) I will tell her.
Jax: It must be hard for you. (Pauses) Not having her here with you.
Robin: I miss her. I’ll always wish Brenda was living near me; that was the best part about living in Europe. But, I know that she’s happy and that’s all she wants for me… so that’s all I can ask for.
(Jax gently lifts Robin’s left hand and looks down at it. He smiles.)
Jax: It’s a beauty.
Robin: It belonged to Patrick’s mother.
Jax: Family heirloom? Nice. (Looks at her) And he’s good to you?
Robin (nods): The best. He’s different than any other man I’ve ever been with.
Jax: He’s your equal.
Robin: No, that’s not it. Stone was my first love, an innocent love, a perfect love; Jason was… he was an intense love. I don’t regret the time I spent with either of them.
Jax: And Patrick? What is he?
Robin: He’s my grown-up love. He makes me feel like a woman. He makes me feel alive. He keeps me on my toes. He… (Covers her face) This is corny… I know.
Jax: No, tell me more – I want to hear this.
Robin: He makes me want to reach my potential and wish for things that I had given up on. (Laughs) Why do you want to hear about this?
Jax: Because I don’t know him and I would like to, even if it’s just through your eyes.
Robin (smiles): Well, if it’s through my eyes… you better watch out because he’ll frustrate you like no other person ever has, then the next moment you’ll love him like you never loved anything before.
Jax (laughs): Well, I don’t know about feeling all that… but it’s good if you do.
(Robin laughs then looks up when she hears the door of GH opening behind her. It’s Patrick. He walks toward Robin and Jax then looks toward her.)
Robin (smiling): Checking up on me?
Patrick (laughs): Not quite. I just wanted to let you know our consult cancelled.
(An excited Robin turns toward Patrick.)
Robin: We can go home?!?! (Excited) We can go home?!?!
(Patrick smiles as Robin leaps into his arms excitedly. He kisses her shoulder.)
Patrick: We can go home.
Jax: And maybe celebrate that engagement?
(Patrick looks up from Robin’s shoulder and toward Jax.)
Patrick (surprised): She told you?
(Robin pulls away and looks at Patrick. She raises her left hand and smiles.)
Robin: The ring told him and I just confirmed it.
(Jax smiles as he extends his hand toward Patrick.)
Jax: Congratulations.
(Patrick simply nods his head as Robin reaches toward his hand and takes it.)
Patrick: Thank you.
Jax: You’re a lucky man, Dr. Drake. (smiles) Don’t ever forget that.
Patrick: I don’t think I’ll be able to.
Jax: Good. (looks at Robin) Just let me know what date you choose.
Robin (smiles): I will. Thanks again, Jax.
(Jax kisses Robin’s cheek then walks into GH. Once alone, Patrick looks at her.)
Patrick: Picking a date without me?
Robin (smiles): For our engagement dinner.
Patrick: Engagement dinner?
(Patrick wraps his arms around Robin’s waist.)
Patrick: Sounds more like a party. What happened to just dinner?
Robin: Well, I do want to celebrate.
(Patrick pulls Robin closer to him and smiles widely.)
Patrick: So, you want to show me off?
(Robin laughs as she throws back her head.)
Robin: Yeah, that’s it.
(Patrick gently caresses the side of Robin’s face and looks back at her.)
Patrick: So, we have the WHOLE afternoon to ourselves. What would you like to do?
Robin (smiles): Oh, that’s easy.
Patrick: Really?
Robin: Oh yeah.
Patrick: Want to fill me in on your plans for us?
(Robin stands on her tiptoes and carefully whispers into Patrick’s ear. He immediately starts laughing then looks at her.)
Patrick: Are you for real?
Robin (smiles): Is that a yes?
Patrick: Lead the way… I’m all yours.
