James Kirk and Spock
Played By:
William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy
Show: Star Trek
About Them: James
T. Kirk is the human captain of the Enterprise. Smart, quick-thinking, and
deep feeling, he smartly uses the expertise of his crew to their greatest extent
and balances his emotionalism with his first officer Spock's logic. Spock
is half-human and half-Vulcan, a race that prizes logic and disdains
emotions. Being on the Enterprise and exposed to the eccentricities of
humans, he comes to realize that their emotionalism isn't that big of a
flaw.
Why Them?
Captain
James Kirk and his science officer Spock were my very first friend-ship.
Kirk was also my very first crush, but that's another site's story
I remember watching them
back when I was a little girl and loving the connection between them, the
obvious affection and devotion. I loved the episodes where one of them
would get into some kind of trouble (usually Kirk) and the other would try and
save them (usually Spock). I didn't think they was anything better then
those episodes, unaware at the time that I was rapidly becoming a fan of what
would later be known as hurt/comfort stories. And very few did
hurt/comfort better then Kirk and Spock!
One of the best things
about these two was the obvious respect they had for each other. Kirk
didn't understand the Vulcan way of suppressing emotion, and despite his
occasional frustration for it, he respected Spock's ways. Spock was often
at a loss in the face of human emotionalism, but he respected the fact that it
was one of the things that made Kirk an excellent captain. They were more
then captain and commander, more then officers, more then friends, they were
brothers of the heart, and they proved that time and time again, in good times
and bad.
No matter what
friend-ships may come along for me, Kirk and Spock will always hold a special
place in my heart, because they were my first.
