Noah Falls Into A Coma

Patrick’s contempt for his father turned to fear of losing him forever when Noah fell into a coma and appeared to be on death’s doorstep. Although Noah had vehemently refused to be put on the transplant list for a donor liver, Patrick couldn’t bear to watch his father die a slow, painful death, so he forged the consent form. He walked into Noah’s hospital room and saw his father unconscious and apparently lifeless. He stood at the foot of the bed and spoke calmly, but adamantly to his father. “Dad, Dad, Dad,” he said, shaking his head. “Determined to be the bane of my existence till the bitter end. You won’t take a transplant because you don’t think you deserve it. Won’t take part of my liver, either, because you don’t want to risk my health or you can’t stand the thought of owing me that much. Expect everybody to just sit around, twiddle their thumbs and watch you die. Well, I have a problem with that.” Patrick walked to his father’s bedside and sat down. “See, I can save lives. That’s what I do, and you can only blame yourself for that. You gave me the love for healing, a role model of sensitivity and brilliance. I didn’t get much of the sensitivity part, but you have to admit, I took your brilliance and raised you one.” Patrick paused and breathed in deeply. “What I’m trying to say is, you gave me my life, twice. And now you can expect me to not try and save yours? I’ve never lost a patient, not once. You’re not going to be my first.” Leaning in closer, he whispered, “I am not going to let you haunt me.” It was a powerful moment for both Patrick and his portrayer, Jason Thompson, who has accomplished the tricky task of giving his character both a gigantic ego and a gigantic heart, which, in this case, is a match made in heaven.
