From: "The Sentinel," a science fiction slash cop show, about a cop with heightened senses (all five of them) and the grad student who is helping him cope with them.
Blair Sandburg (actor Garrett Maggart) is an anthropology grad student at Rainier College, who teaches part time while he is working on his thesis. Brilliant (he started college at 16), inquisitive, and hyper, he is thrilled when he meets Jim because Jim is a Sentinel, something Blair has been studying for several years. He convinces Jim to let him help him, as well as to let him write his thesis on him, and ends up tagging along on Jim's cases as an "observer."
James Ellison (actor Richard Burgi) is a tough, hard nosed cop. A former Army Ranger, he developed his enhanced senses while in the jungles in Peru, where he lived along with the people for a long time. Once back in civilization his senses seemed to return to normal and it isn't until he is on an extended stake-out by himself in the forest that they become active again. Very much a loner, he's reluctant to take on the excitable and enthusiastic Sandburg but does so because he knows that Blair is the only one who can help him with his senses.

I actually had little interest in the show at first, and only watched it occasionally when I saw an episode that looked like it would be a good friend ship episode. Always a sucker for a good friendship, that was the only thing that interested me in the show.
It was actually my involvement in slash fandom for Jack and Daniel from "Stargate SG1" that got me interested in "The Sentinel." I started reading the fanfiction for Blair and Jim, both general and slash, and was hooked. Luckily I was able to catch the show airing in repeats on the Sci-Fi channel and I started myself a new show!
What I have always liked is a good friendship, and "The Sentinel" offered me that with Blair and Jim. It also offered several subtle homoerotic moments in the show that seemed to make these two ripe for slashing! The two actors had a good chemistry together, and despite my occasional dislike of the way Jim would kind of put down or put off Blair, I liked their pairing. Somehow, they worked.

There are a ton of fanfic writers out there, and a bunch of awesome fics, but these happen to be my personal favorites. There are so many though, that I am only picking a few, but check on the links in the links section for more sites!
"Sleeping" by Dolimir. An AU story where Blair and Jim meet up during Jim's Vice days.
"Choices" by Dolimir. An AU story where Blair and Jim meet up when a distraught Jim calls into a suicide prevention hotline and "meets" Blair.
"Tamed" by Dolimir. A very AU story set in a universe where Sentinel Jim runs across the Guide destined to be his Blair, while rescuing Blair from a Slaver waystation.
"Ghosts" by Dolimir. Another AU story set in a universe where Blair is a reclusive computer programmer haunted by his Guide powers and Jim is a cop who needs his cyber help.
"Resurrection" Series by Dolimir. Blair returns to Cascade several years after he was kidnapped and thought dead. But it's a very different Blair; will he be able to fit into his old life?
"Moonhunt" by Dolimir. A very AU story set in a universe where Sentinels are a little more common and Guides are a highly sought after individual. This is one of my favorites of Dolimir's.
"The Jake Series" by Alyjude. Set after the events of "The Sentinel by Blair Sandburg," Blair has moved out of the loft and becomes friends with an older woman and her young grandson. When the older woman dies, Blair becomes guardian of little Jake, and starts a romantic relationship with Jim. A wonderful series, and I love the addition of little Jake! The series starts with the story "Everything's Jake."
"Two Faces" by Alyjude. An AU story where an undercover Jim takes the place of a criminal and meets Blair, who was being blackmailed by said criminal. Hot, sweet, and excellent.
"Call Waiting" by Ceares. A story where Blair and Jim meet over the phone before they ever meet in person.
"Sense of the Heart" by Ceares. An AU story where Sentinel Jim goes to a Sentinel/Guide matchmaker to find his Guide, and finds Blair.
"Partners" by Deb Wright. Set after "The Sentinel by Blair Sandburg," Blair and Jim talk and finally get it together.
"On the Outside" by Deb Wright. Not really slash fanfiction, but an excellent fanfic where Carolyn speculates on ex-husband Jim's relationship with Blair before she leaves town.
"Hunted" by Rimilod. Blair is forced to use his knowledge about Jim's senses against him when he tries to protect his mom. Not strictly slash, but it has a slashy overtone to it.
"Birthright" by Rimilod. Definitely not a slash series as this one has Blair and Jim finding out they share the same father! It's one of my favorites though, so I have to recommend it!

852 Prospect: The Sentinel Adult Fanfiction Archive: A wonderful wonderful wonderful place for Sentinel Slash Fanfiction! I found my very favorite author Dolimir here, and have loved her stories ever since! Also check out Alyjude, and Ceares.
A Feast for the Senses: Home for fanfiction from author Deb Wright. She writes both Slash and Friendship fiction and her stuff is really excellent.
