WHO ARE THEY?

From: "Stargate SG1," a science fiction show about a military operation to explore other worlds with an object called the Stargate.

Doctor Daniel Jackson (actor Michael Shanks) is a brilliant linguist and archeologist, who was drummed out of the academic community because of his theory that aliens had built the pyramids.  He discovered he was right when the government enlisted him to help decipher a top secret find, the Stargate.  He managed to do in two weeks what a team of the best scientific minds in the civil and military fields couldn't do in years, and opened the Stargate.  Dedicated to exploration, fostering relations with alien peoples, and promoting peace, his aims can be at odds with the military that he works for.

Colonel Jack O'Neill (actor Richard Dean Anderson) was on the verge of suicide after his young son shot and killed himself with Jack's gun before he was recruited by the military to go on the first mission through the Stargate.  That mission, along with meeting Daniel, helped change his life and bring him back from the brink.  The leader of SG1, he is a little battle weary, a little set in his militaristic ways, a lot stubborn, and not as dumb as he likes to act, he is devoted to his team and to his planet.

WHY THEM?

I first got hooked on Jack and Daniel as a friend-ship when I saw the movie. It starred Kurt Russel as Jack and James Spader as Daniel.  Daniel immediately became my favorite character, and I loved the connection between the suicidal Colonel and the slightly geeky yet totally enthusiastic archaeologist.  When Daniel sacrificed his life to save Jack's (in the movie), I was hooked.  I was pleased to see their friendship continue in the series, and they became one of my favorite TV friend-ships.

I started surfing the net for friendship fanfiction on them, and came upon a site that had both friendship and slash fanfiction for them called JD_Divas.  After devouring the friendship fic, I thought "what the heck" and gave the slash a try, and was hooked ever since.

I think for Jack and Daniel it isn't hard for me to take the slash step because of how deep their friendship (at least in my opinion) goes.  I don't really get slash overtones from the show itself, but fanfiction delves deeper into emotions then the show does, and it works for me.

FANFICTION RECOMMENDATIONS

There are a ton of fanfic writers out there, and a bunch of awesome fics, but these happen to be my personal favorites.  There are so many though, that I am only picking a few, but check on the links in the links section for more sites!

I'm missing a couple of my faves here, as I have them saved on my computer from the alpha gate list, but am not sure where they are on the net!  I'll put them up when I find them.
